me and my cousin catch a lot of bluegill or bream and you can keep crawfish in an aquarium pretty easily. you just have to be willing to turn over a few rocks. the bluegill will reproduce a lot if they're not hybrids so you may come in one day to find a lot more than you started with.
I am working on doing an aquaponic setup with some bluegill. Right now I have 2, 55 and one 29 gallon aquariums setup with bluegill. I have 2 wild caught that are around 7 inches and they have to be TOTALLY isolated, they pick to death any other tank mates. In one 55 however I have a dozen 3-5 inchers I got from a bait shop for $6. The closest hatchery I have found that sell all kinds of game fish and tilapia is located right around Huntsville Texas (I'm in DFW).
Hi, lookin good. I have a small recommendation for you. It will definitly help im sure. Give your fish a place to hide, it really helps with thier health. I cut up some black drainage pipe, the kind that is flexible with seep holes. It needs to be weighed down but its cheap and i happen to have some lying around. Im sure there is something better that sinks by itself. I would bet this is why your catfish did not do well. Hope this helps. Daniel
The pump I have came with several adapters. The adapter happened to be a 1/2 in. screw fitting, so I got one w/ a slip fitting on the other side and glued the pipe in from there. I got my pump years ago at hydrofarm . com. Hope that helps.
How did you adapt the PVC to the pump? Is that a 1/2 tubing on the pump? I find the 1/2 to be something like 2-3mm wider on each side to my Home Depot 180GPH pump with 1/2" adaptor.
Yeah. I was going to try to get Tilapia, but I couldnt source them here in oklahoma for a reasonable price. Plus I am getting these bluegill for free. Cant beat FREE!!!hahaha.
The Bluegill look pretty content. Too bad about the Tilapia and catfish. I have Tilapia in my tank, but I do have to keep the temperature at 78-82 degrees. They do better in warm water.
so you can use wild fish? i live between lake eucha and grand lake! i catch perch all the time!
