@scarvesonguitars You are right. John's Aunt Mimi was fiercely protective and defensive of him. I saw a video (on youtube) where she said that all the crap stories are just made by sick people who want to attack someone who can't defend himself. John was outspoken, opinionated, and very bold. He ruffled feathers, but he was very good-hearted. Mostly all fan encounters I have ever read of him were positive, some even beautiful. He wasn't a jerk, just a flawed man.So sad he's gone.
The Beatles themselves were like other men, but the music and lyrics channeled through them contained magic and messages from beyond the mind. To learn how to perceive these hidden meanings, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read through the section about The Beatles.
I'm glad to hear Ringo talk about John in such a loving way. There's been a really harsh rewrite of John's character by hack writers and people who didn't even know him. Ringo knew him very well- they were in a band together and close friends until John's death. That's all I have to say...
Naturally, there is nobody alive more cool than Ringo! Is this not obvious? I always felt it a drag that Ringo did not sing more often when he was in the Beatles because I really like his voice and I always liked his personality. I grew up listening to the Beatles from my parents' records. I have listened to the Beatles since I was a baby. In my elementary school's music class, we sang several Beatles tunes. Hell I can tell you which Beatle sang the main part of each song they did.
@j4unumber1 yeah me too! i could listen to one chord of a song and know that it s a Beatles song and ill know which one, in fact, we were in the car, my family and two friends, and Here Comes the Sun came on the radio and i told everyone to shut up once i heard the first chord haha! you can imagine how impressed my friends were!
John really was an awesome man. I get really offended by all these people, a lot of them young and hardly know much about John, just saying awful things about him as a person based on mistakes he made. He was only 40 when he died, yet he did beautiful things for the world of music and art, and his messages were very simple yet powerful. He was extraordinarily bold and willing to do things no one at the time, with his status, would dream of. John will forever be my favorite Beatle/musician ever.
@lalalives I wouldn't get offended. We didn't know him, personally. I've listened to Lennon's records, watched footage of him...he had people in his inner circle who are more qualified to talk about him, all we can do is speculate what he was like. Good that Ringo sticks up for him here, and I get that with this new Harrison film (directed by Scorcese), when George is asked about Lennon's death in the late 80's, "he was no angel was he?" and George goes:"He wasn't, but he was, aswell"
How anyone anywhere can dislike this is beyond belief. It's a fucking tribute video to the greatest songwriter of all time for fucks sake! 9 people are fucking brain dead! Disliking this is disrespect to Lennon's legacy and Ringo's beautiful attempt at a tribute to him!
@jasonaldeanqueen24 It is because his blue eyes are very sensitive to bright lights (i.e. photographic lamps or spotlights). As he has matured he has become more sensitive to harsh lighting. It's sad, though. I miss seeing those incredible eyes of his. He could melt my soul with one glance. He still can.
Bloody hell, i can tell you now singing and playing the drums is no easy feat, but Ringo makes it look easy, he never gets enough credit, definatley one of the greatest musicians of our age!
@BWEE1000 What are you talking about? He didn't write this song, it was John. I think Ringo's first song was "Boys" on the "Please Please Me" album, and the White Album came way later in their career.
@worldinacup No, no, no. If you look in to it, Ringo didn't know how to write songs, and George didn't know until later, Paul and John wanted both of them to start writing there own songs but before that happen Paul and John had to write both of there songs and some times Ringo would do a cover. With The Beatles is the first album George started to write his own songs, Don't Bother Me was his first one. Ringo didn't start writing his own songs until The Beatles album (White Album)
Ringo came into the Lake Tahoe Denny's where I worked in Dec. 1979. Accidently locked his keys in his rented Chevy Blazer, and the cook & I were out there in the lot with a wire hanger breaking into it for him. He actually came back a few days later. A REALLY well-dressed & exceptionally nice dude. I kept his fork & I think Julie the waitress made off with all the other dishes. Eventually I lost the damned fork...or it got mixed up with all the other Denny's silverware I'd managed to bring home.
John wrote this song for Billy Kramer and the Dakotas as well as 'Do You Want to Know a Secret', 'Bad to Me.' Apparently John and Paul also wrote, The Rolling Stones, first 20 hits. They wrote for allot of other people.
I ALWAYS thought... but wasnt sure, that Ringo and John really had a great bromance, :). but really, i always saw john being like a big bro to him and john was always laughing or admiring ringo like ringo admired john. does anybody feel they had the biggest bond in the beatles?
@027betz not sure John could be a big bro to Ringo considering that he was actually younger :) but they seemed to have a special bond as the two older guys I think
Ringo, Jim Keltner, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn, Joe Walsh.... Wonder if this was around the Wilbury period... Petty, Lynn, Keltner........ I bet George was standing around watching this one...
Ringo is genuine when he speaks of John.....I can never tell with Paul, because he had a difficult relationship with John, but you can tell Ringo means it from his heart. John loved Ringo, it's pretty obvious out of all The Beatles he felt most comfortable around Ringo. When he was filming How I Won The War in 1966, he invited Ringo to keep him company during filming. Ringo had no ego, he wasn't complex or moody.....he was the opposite of John. And thats why John loved him so much.
Actually can I just say that John always gave Ringo credit for his musical skills. He said 'Ringo is a damn good drummer'.It's nice to hear some1 who actually knew John talk about him.People like Albert Goldman come to mind.
Actually John (and Paul) wrote it a very long time ago. It first appeared on the American release 'The Beatles Second Album', and then in Britain on the 'Long Tall Sally' EP, sung by John.
Such beautiful words from Ringo; I love how they somehow or another described each other as "beautiful" - So simple, forward, and intimate. Just like the Beatles always were.
I always loved Ringo not because he was an amazing drummer, (Which he was) but because he was always kind and gave everyone a chance. He never caused any drama, and he was not only a gret musician but a great person, and I think that shows when he talks about his friend John. :)
To me, he is not underrated, he is a great player, and an awesome human being. The other Beatles loved him... he is "uncle Ringo" to all their kids. And is the coolest musician ever ! I love you Ringo !! I hope I'd get a chance to meet you ♥
ringo was the best beatle i mean he was so down to earth becuz if u notice the other three were kinda asshole-ish they used to tease him because of his height and they thought they were better than him for some reason
@MyGodzilla99 no? ringo had something back then that could kill him, why would they tease him if he is going through a sickness? the beatles were all equal and no beatle ever said the were the best. Ringo is just an awesome and nice guy so calling paul, john, george teasers is just stupid
@addzack11 thats what they want you to think quit being so naive thinking that the beatles were goodie-two-shoes they also had awful personalities music is not every thing that counts
@MyGodzilla99 but paul and john kept on fighting the most, so yah george kind of stayed out of the fights and ringo didnt talk that much so it was just john and paul fighting
@kurtzbag George Harrison of the Beatles formed another band after the Beatles broke up with Tom petty, Bob Dylan, and others called the Travelling Wilburries
@xiloveRiverphoenix I think John and Ringo were the closest, on A Hard Days Night, John keeps saying that Ringo was his best friend, I think he only says like twice but, thats why I say it.
@kombatzero Haha no he wasn't Ringo's drumming was extremely basic.. Anyone could drum as well as him. Although the simplistic beats I assume he came up with did go well with the songs they were in mostly because The Beatles songs didn't need a heavy driving beat backing them.
@Zerrith You'd be surprised how hard it is to imitate Ringo's drumming. It's the way he plays, he's stronger on the left hand but leads with the right and plays right handed when he's left handed. Sure he's not the best technical drummer, but that's not all there is to it. There's keeping time and that is something not many drummers are good at. There also aren't many drummers who can manage to give a unique beat for each song. You can listen to his work and manage to identify the song.
@babygore0599 Yeah, I always wondered why he didn't just turn the kit around so it was left handed. Playing the opposite way is difficult, I could never play a right handed kit properly.
@ParapsychoNightmare Most likely because his family though everyone should be right handed, back then they did that. He writes with his right hand but uses his left hand for anything else, like baseball, ect. He probably didn't think to change it.
@4FabBEATLES No, Rory Storm + The Hurricanes was the group Ringo was with before he joined The Beatles. In this video, Ringo is performing with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Joe Walsh and Jim Keltner.
Corporate greed is infecting society. Fight back! We are an Unmovement: they can't destroy a resistance without members. Ringo Starr has already denied membership - iamnotamember[dot]com/#357
Record your denial now, and we will contact you when the time is right.
Ringo is rightfully considered to be the most likable Beatle. He also has the best aging genes. Look at him! He turns 70 this July. John would look 80 today. Paul isn't aging well, which is sad since he was so beautiful. (Okay okay, I should say handsome. But you know the word for Paul's looks is "beautiful".) Why does Ringo always wear sunglasses indoors? To hide his crow's feet? Ringo was upset with Paul for letting his hair get so publicly gray. Paul finally relented and dyed his hair.
The great Jim Keltner on Cowbell - pay attention to the work of this guy young drummers. He's brilliant and plays for the song like no other. More Cowbell?.... just the right amount from Jim everytime.
Lennon may have said Ringo was not even the best drummer in The Beatles, But remember that John was part Pompous Ass and part Comedian, and 100% reliant on Ringo's freindship.
Ringo is Ringo, thats all there is to it. And hes every bloody bit as warm, unassuming, funny, and kind as he seems. He was quite simply the heart of the Beatles. John Lennon
"Ringo was a star in his own right in Liverpool before we even met. He was a professional drummer who sang and performed and had Ringo Star-time and he was in one of the top groups in Britain but especially in Liverpool before we even had a drummer. So Ringo's talent would have come out one way or the other as something or other." - John Lennon, Playboy 1980
"Ringo is a damn good drummer. He is not technically good, but I think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way Paul's bass playing is underrated. I think Paul and Ringo stand up with any of the rock musicians. Not technically great -- none of us are technical musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as inspired humans to make the noise, they are as good as anybody." - John Lennon, Playboy 1980

aww, Ringo talks about John so fondly.
He really loved him, you could tell.
RIP John and George ♥

@xiloveRiverphoenix I think John and Ringo were the closest, on A Hard Days Night, John keeps saying that Ringo was his best friend, I think he only says like twice but, thats why I say it.

ringo never gets anoth credit for his drum playing - he was good
kombatzero 1 year ago 26
@kombatzero Haha no he wasn't Ringo's drumming was extremely basic.. Anyone could drum as well as him. Although the simplistic beats I assume he came up with did go well with the songs they were in mostly because The Beatles songs didn't need a heavy driving beat backing them.
Zerrith 1 year ago
@Zerrith You'd be surprised how hard it is to imitate Ringo's drumming. It's the way he plays, he's stronger on the left hand but leads with the right and plays right handed when he's left handed. Sure he's not the best technical drummer, but that's not all there is to it. There's keeping time and that is something not many drummers are good at. There also aren't many drummers who can manage to give a unique beat for each song. You can listen to his work and manage to identify the song.
ParapsychoNightmare 1 year ago
@ParapsychoNightmare It's because he's left handed playing a right hand kit.
babygore0599 1 year ago
@babygore0599 Yeah, I always wondered why he didn't just turn the kit around so it was left handed. Playing the opposite way is difficult, I could never play a right handed kit properly.
ParapsychoNightmare 1 year ago
@ParapsychoNightmare Most likely because his family though everyone should be right handed, back then they did that. He writes with his right hand but uses his left hand for anything else, like baseball, ect. He probably didn't think to change it.

@kombatzero beyond good. ole Ringo was the BEST and an innovative genius with the way he played .. his style.. and the things he came up

wow!! I never knew Ringo had a beautiful voice....
arunmc12 1 year ago
Ringo is rightfully considered to be the most likable Beatle. He also has the best aging genes. Look at him! He turns 70 this July. John would look 80 today. Paul isn't aging well, which is sad since he was so beautiful. (Okay okay, I should say handsome. But you know the word for Paul's looks is "beautiful".) Why does Ringo always wear sunglasses indoors? To hide his crow's feet? Ringo was upset with Paul for letting his hair get so publicly gray. Paul finally relented and dyed his hair.

Amazing how a voice and arrangement can totally change a song. This version is pretty lame.

The great Jim Keltner on Cowbell - pay attention to the work of this guy young drummers. He's brilliant and plays for the song like no other. More Cowbell?.... just the right amount from Jim everytime.

Lennon may have said Ringo was not even the best drummer in The Beatles, But remember that John was part Pompous Ass and part Comedian, and 100% reliant on Ringo's freindship.

sloanprince 1 year ago
Ringo is Ringo, thats all there is to it. And hes every bloody bit as warm, unassuming, funny, and kind as he seems. He was quite simply the heart of the Beatles. John Lennon
Xmenfan246 1 year ago 4
"Ringo was a star in his own right in Liverpool before we even met. He was a professional drummer who sang and performed and had Ringo Star-time and he was in one of the top groups in Britain but especially in Liverpool before we even had a drummer. So Ringo's talent would have come out one way or the other as something or other." - John Lennon, Playboy 1980
Xmenfan246 1 year ago 3
"Ringo is a damn good drummer. He is not technically good, but I think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way Paul's bass playing is underrated. I think Paul and Ringo stand up with any of the rock musicians. Not technically great -- none of us are technical musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as inspired humans to make the noise, they are as good as anybody." - John Lennon, Playboy 1980
