If you get more tattoos and are worried you'll scratch in your sleep, I'd just suggest covering it before you go to bed with plastic wrap or a paper towel, just while you sleep and remove it in the morning.

Is the whole tattoo still looking okay? If it looks fine, follow the rules for sure, haha. But if you're not happy with what happened after you peeled off the skin, go can always go back to the artist who did the tattoo for you and get it touched up. But be sure to not peel the skin next time ;)
You can definitely use A&D ointment, as long as it's the cream kind and not the Vasline kind like the type of Aquaphor I mentioned. Basically, you want to make sure there's no mineral oil in your ointment or creams/lotions, as this can effect the color in the ink, and the healing process eventually.

I just got my tattoo today and the guy didn't gimme a care sheet but did say to wash it with anti bacterial soap when I get home and to buy A&D ointment for the first 5 days... He said after the first 5 days to stop using it, should I use the aquaphor? And should I wash my tattoo with the antibacterial soap for the remainder of the healing process or just that one time?
Hello! It's too bad he didn't give you a care sheet, but I guess it can't be helped with some artists. You can definitely use A&D ointment for your tattoos after getting it. After the 5 days, see how your tattoo does without any ointment. Your tattoo will definitely peel, and you can use the ointment on that, you shouldn't need aquaphor. You can still wash your tattoo with the antibacterial soap if you like, but after washing, definitely put some ointment on it to keep it smooth
But after a while, especially after the peeling processes, you can wash your tattoo, and pat it dry without having to use an ointment to moisturize it. I still use my healing cream even though my tattoo has been healed for years. I find keeping it hydrated keeps the colors fresh!
Did the parlor not offer you any balms to purchase? Regardless, I mention in the video you can put H2Ocean products, Tattoo Goo, or go to CVS/Walgreens and buy the Aquaphor cream.
