lol..i rember that video..im in there..the guy sleeping in the hammock @ 0.59...such a nice place!!..was suppose to be in san josé 2 or 3 days..ive ended up to spend a week there!

Great video, well done.  However, if you look at the major booking engines for hostels, you'll find the most recommended hostels. Try doing some reviews on the top hostels, they've earned it.

i have been in Tranquilo and its not a good place to be cause' the staff its rude, the internet its very slow, rats in the kitchen, the place its dirty, and the location i mean barrio amon its a very dangerous place and everything its too far, but thats only a bad hostel cause' in costa rica are way better hostels like molino rojo hostel or galileo you guys should go to those and see what its a good hostel in costa rica

If you want us to review molino rojo or gailileo... just ASK. You don't have to bad mouth Tranquilo Backpackers in the process. We didn't experience any of those things... Plus, I've walked around Barrio Amon at 2 in the morning on several occassion,,, NO Problem...and it IS in walking distance to anything you want to do......

sorry if it sounded rude but its just that my experience in tranquilo was not good at all but the things that i said are true a lot of people says exactly the same, ive been traveling all over the world and that was my worst exp in costa rica, i mean you should try visiting some other places and see the diference and why i say that of tranquilo

ps: and its very dangerous walk in barrio amon at 2 am even the police said that its dangerous

Well, I guess I'm sorry you had a bad experience. We don't necessarily 'compare' places. We stay at a given place and tape it. It is what it is and for the money, we thought Tranquilo was a cool place and I'm sure the places you mentioned we good as well... and I'm sure we'll get to those places eventually.... But anyway, thanx for the comments... all insight and experiences are welcome...

Yeah i stayed in this Hostel! If you wanna stay cheap in san jose, stay here! It is as good as these guys say! And it is a safe area, i had no problems.

thanks for the tip guys, where would you recommend staying close to the airport for a good rate?

the rates have gone up in places around the airport in the last couple of years... average seems to be about $65. The place we were staying increased by $25. so we're looking for a better and more cost effective place too.
