I like this album much more than vapor tails. I only liked 4 tracks off that album. this one has like 7 really good songs on it. This is a ggod one. Love the production of it.
meh i like rush and snakes and arrows is decent but i truthfully think this was one of the bad songs on it =/. the music is good. vocals are decent. but it just doesn't seem to go together at least for me.
lol i'll listen to 1800s music even =p. Beethoven symphanies and stuff are cool to learn like yngwie malmsteen said he used to listen to those people and it gave him his own unique sound on the guitar.. by listening to (not other guitarists to learn) different instruments like piano and violin etc. He formed his styles from those instruments. But yeah, as long as the music is for the sake of music like rush and not for fame, the music will live forever no matter how old. Legends never die.
These guys have been around for 35 years and they still put out music that blows the younger guys away.
You have to think these guys are in their mid 50s and even their senior citizen efforts LOL have more heart, more talent, more soul, more meaning then 85% of the younger rock groups these days.

I went to see them at the Tweeter Center on June 15th and they were amazing! I am going to see them again today, July 11th, at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. It's going to be great!

Just saw Snakes And Arrows, it is really an amazing tour, it was the best show I have ever seen. I don't know what could top it, seeing the best band ever on an awesome stage with great effects and lighting, with a great crowd.
Im gonna see them in St Louis on the 27th. Cant wait!! I have seen them in the mid 70's, 5 times in Kansas City. But now I know it will be an advanced, amazing show. Plus this time I will have a clear head :-P

you dont know what your talking about, neil peart started out as a jazz drummer before he joined rush thats why at the end of the rythm method it gets all jazzy cause neil likes to play jazz but rush is a rock band not a jazz combo. you can hear the jazz influence in alot of his beats
oh for sure. but i started out on flute, but im a sax player. doesnt make me a floutist :) although im sure Neil can do whatever genre he wants wonderfully.
Neil Pert is not the "best drummer"(If there is such a title). He might be the best at the style he plays(prbably). But seriously, look at Chad Smith, he is a great funk drummer. Cindy Blackman is a great jazz drummer. You just can't say someone is the best drummer.

imo this record is the best theyve done in years..its brilliant..the religious theme has been an obsession of neils for a while and he has questioned faith in past songs like roll the bones etc but his message remained universal until the song faithless in which the lyrics become ponderously preachy and frankly ruin a great song and at the same time condemning i would guess the majority of rush fans who would at least have some sort of beilef system..

Haha, just being introduced to Rush? Rush puts a bit more thought into their lyrics than something to give an excuse for having a lead singer. When Peart writes the lyrics, there is an extra element within them that has a purpose. The words are not as empty as most rock songs are, and its that element that make Rush such a fuller rock band than most. People that dont much like Rush are usually those that find the songs empty because they overlook that relevant element.
uh no i am not just being introduced to rush, i got 'moving pictures' on cassette back in 5th grade, when i was 11, i've been a fan for 27 years! i saw them in 1982 and 1996.....i just think there's some serious over-analyzation going on here. it's amusing though.
But yeah, Peart is an awesome lyricist, and just about every song they write has some philosophy or idea backing it up. Look at songs like 2112, or The Trees, or Anthem, and you're seeing an idea like Objectivism leak through. Songs like Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, Something for Nothing championing individualism and a mind and effort of one's own. Look at the Snakes and Arrows, and you see religion being considered pretty relevantly.
Yeah, this whole album has grown one me...its turned into my third favorite album behind 2112 and Moving Pictures...I finally got my copy in the mail yesterday too!

lol i'll listen to 1800s music even =p. Beethoven symphanies and stuff are cool to learn like yngwie malmsteen said he used to listen to those people and it gave him his own unique sound on the guitar.. by listening to (not other guitarists to learn) different instruments like piano and violin etc. He formed his styles from those instruments. But yeah, as long as the music is for the sake of music like rush and not for fame, the music will live forever no matter how old. Legends never die.

Rush never ceases to amaze me.
These guys have been around for 35 years and they still put out music that blows the younger guys away.
You have to think these guys are in their mid 50s and even their senior citizen efforts LOL have more heart, more talent, more soul, more meaning then 85% of the younger rock groups these days.
Unbelievable! just goes to show what has happened to rock music and the lazy slouches that have been invited into the scene in the last 10-15 years. Hail Rush!

Just saw Snakes And Arrows, it is really an amazing tour, it was the best show I have ever seen. I don't know what could top it, seeing the best band ever on an awesome stage with great effects and lighting, with a great crowd.

Neil Pert is not the "best drummer"(If there is such a title). He might be the best at the style he plays(prbably). But seriously, look at Chad Smith, he is a great funk drummer. Cindy Blackman is a great jazz drummer. You just can't say someone is the best drummer.

As I have said previously, I believe Mr. Peart is the greatest skeptic of the 21st century. There are many similarities in the two faiths, but this is the underlying difference. Muslims do not believe in the diety of Jesus. They do not believe in the virgin birth or his ressurection from the dead. As I said previously, they are waiting for the return of Jesus Christ. An event that they claim will usher in their Messiah. my friend this is where it gets interesting. In the final days of this age this event is surely going to take place. Keep your eyes fixed on the Middle East.

Using this definition it is easy for one to assume that you have faith in agnosticism, due to the fact that you have expressed enormous confidence and trust in your belief.
To answer your question as to my being a christian and not a muslim or mohammadan, is as follows: Muslims/Mohammadans happen to believe that Jesus is a prophet. They also believe in creationism, They also believe that Jesus will return.

imo this record is the best theyve done in years..its brilliant..the religious theme has been an obsession of neils for a while and he has questioned faith in past songs like roll the bones etc but his message remained universal until the song faithless in which the lyrics become ponderously preachy and frankly ruin a great song and at the same time condemning i would guess the majority of rush fans who would at least have some sort of beilef system..

Who are you to claim a religion is false? How do you KNOW a religion is false? You choose your words poorly, my friend, and such is the sword that Mr. Peart is talking about. Your words would have been more accurate had you said "I have faith that any religion that denies a God given freewill, is a false religion, but I do not know it." You dont "know" anything, you base your beliefs purely off arbitrary faith.
This is the idea that makes "Pastafarianism" equally as credible as Christianity.

Haha, just being introduced to Rush? Rush puts a bit more thought into their lyrics than something to give an excuse for having a lead singer. When Peart writes the lyrics, there is an extra element within them that has a purpose. The words are not as empty as most rock songs are, and its that element that make Rush such a fuller rock band than most. People that dont much like Rush are usually those that find the songs empty because they overlook that relevant element.

But yeah, Peart is an awesome lyricist, and just about every song they write has some philosophy or idea backing it up. Look at songs like 2112, or The Trees, or Anthem, and you're seeing an idea like Objectivism leak through. Songs like Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, Something for Nothing championing individualism and a mind and effort of one's own. Look at the Snakes and Arrows, and you see religion being considered pretty relevantly.

Again, there is no reason for you to pick Christianity than Islam, Hinduism, or any other religion. Your choice is completely arbitrary, based on whatever you "like" to believe or "wish" was true. Reason is the truth I live by, and so far there is nothing more Christianity has to offer up than any other religion that people "claiming" they saw God, or he "spoke" to them, etc.

Again, you're picking and choosing words from the song and assuming it means he's going through some spiritual confusion/consideration, but he is doing no such thing. The entire album, is essentially a criticism of the irrationality and arbitrary nature of religion today. Peart is no atheist, he is an agnostic. He doesnt claim to know what is true, but he certainly will not blindly follow a religion, or allow some personal desire for "armor" to turn into the "sword" it has for religions today.

And now what would you say if instead of referencing the Bible, Peart referenced a popular work of fiction, or a fairy tale? Would you still make the point that he is "reading [work] only to use it to his decieving advantage"?

OK, whatifitsnot, you have successfully painted yourself into a corner! Let's say your right and christianity is a religion. Using your definition, one can assume that agnosticism is a religion because most agnostics express enormous faith in thier belief I.E., evolution. What about you, whatifitsnot, what about your faith and belief in evolution. will you confess that evolution is only a theory, not proven science. I know what I believe. Are you sure what you believe? Can you proove it?

Isn't this song interesting! a professing aethist echoing a parlllel phrase of the Apostle Paul. No one gets to their heaven without a fight. sounds very similar to the words of Paul. "I have fought the good fight of faith. I have finished my course".

That doesn't sound similar at all, actually.
I wouldn't be surprised if Peart has read the Bible. Plenty of atheists have. You can almost certainly read it as a work of fiction. The 'biblical connotations' of this song are entirely critical. I don't think Neil is changing his tune.

He may not change his tune anytime soon, but in the end he will.For the Apostle Paul has written, That every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. (Songofwyrd) go to page 2 and read the words of christianity that relate to the armor and sword. Judge for yourself, don't be fooled by the faithless/hopeless message of Mr. Peart.

I'm well familiar with the words of Christianity, having attended Catholic schools for the first twelve years of my educational career, and while the words you mention use a similar metaphor, they do not monopolize the idea.
Neil Peart's 'faithless' message is a lot more socially relevant than an absentee parent sky bully.

I understandably, if he exists, won't hold it against him if he smites me for it, though I'd certainly question his inactivity over the past millenia, because we could probably use a little hands on guidance.

And you know this how? Because some book tells you its true? Why is it, again, that you choose to believe Christianity over any other religion, such as Hinduism or Judaism, etc? Is it some feeling within you? If thats the case, Are you truly willing to go out and claim that all other "feelings" people have with their own religions are false, and only yours is a true feeling? All for no reason...It looks as if that armor you have created for yourself is turning into a sword at that point...

Can you please not rely on ad hominem attacks? They do nothing for the discussion and domore to point out that you really cant prove your point without using them, which is bad for what you are saying.
Also, I use "arbitrary" so often because it is the key word which describes someone's choice to have a belief. It makes no sense why someone chooses to pick one "faith" over another...Thus, my question to you which you dont want to answer.

Now, you call my acceptance of a lack of belief based on a further acceptance of my ignorance on the matter a religion, why? Are you trying to refer to the belief as some new "cult" concept? In that case, you can probably call followers of Peart cultists, but that does nothing to discredit Agnosticism. Otherwise, trying to refer to it as a "religion" makes as little sense as calling a Buddhism a "science," except worse because Agnosticism is the exact opposite of religion.

OK! We are beginning to find some common ground. 1. The followers of Peart are cultist. 2. Agnosticism is not a religion.
3. Chritianity is not a religion,it is a doctine of faith and belief in Jesus as the promised Messiah and the Son of God.4. Arbitrary believe in agnosticism is a faith.
having said that,I will try to answer your question as to why I choose one faith over another. Firstly, only one faith can be correct at this time. whether you believe that or not!

Wrong,while every following has their crazies, to claim that those that like what Peart says in his songs are cultists is simply a baseless ad hominem attack, and if you're going to resort to insults, then it says wonders about the strength of your argument. Again, I'm not using insults, or desperate attaempts to discredit your beliefs by attacking the followers of a belief(because I know you know that does nothing to prove the idea wrong)to prove my point, so please refrain from doing the same.

Then your previous comment is therefore humorous in that you say "Christianity is not a religion". According to Wikipedia a religion is a set of beliefs and practices, often centered upon specific supernatural and moral claims about reality, the cosmos, and human nature, and often codified as prayer, ritual, and religious law. I feel that Christianity fits that definition. Also, the only "leap of faith" that agnostics take is that they believe neither Christianity nor God is the absolute truth.
