Well, legally, anyone can cover Genesis songs or any other band. No permission is needed other than a form to fill out so the proper royalties can be distrubuted by the publishing company. Genesis (or any other songwriter) only gets one chance to reject the use of the song, called "right of first refusal",after that it's fair game. So, no, Genesis didn't have to approve the cover, just collect the royalties. Not a bad proposition....

That said. Disturbed is indeed, an awesome band with a lot of range, deep messages, awesome music. Genesis, I've only heard perhaps one or two songs, and I do indeed love their version of Land of Confusion as well. (I'm also of the opinion that the Disturbed music videowas kinda half assed... I'm sorry, but the picture of a girl being flipped around with flashes is very amateurish and really felt like they were low budget)
