how are you playing this game at ultra? i have an ati radeon hd 5760 1gb intel core i5 4 gb DDR 3 ram and it runs everything on medium? can you explain please
@toutagamon he's getting horrible FPS while doing it, and he's not playing in multiplayer. He would probably have to turn everything to low if he was going to play online with this card and at that resolution. I play with a 4870 and need everything at lowest settings for 1900x1200 with the only "extras," being medium creep and unique unit models turned on.
@bordeianua I don't think that a radeon 5760 actually exists. Do you mean 5670? If so then the 4850 is a much more powerful card, its just a generation older. Its like comparing a new BMW 3 series to the last-model 5 series. The new 3 series might have some new features but the older 5 series is still much more powerful.
A gigabyte one based on the 770 chipset, along with DDR2 RAM and a Athlon X4 620 would be nice.
You can also go for a 870 chipset with DDR3 ram and same cpu. More expensive though with little to no performance difference. It may help with overclocking though, if you are into this kind of thing.
How much did this rig cost you? I wanna get something that can just play this game on high. I have a semi old laptop and it can run it WAY smooth on low...but as soon as I bump up the shaders to medium, it drops...not to unplayable, but to uncomfortable and I'm just lookin to get a new desktop that can pull at least high settings. :) Doesn't have to be ultra, like this.
Actually it's very cheap. I don't have an exact figure, since it has been by some old salvage parts, but I'd guess, less that 300 euros if we are talking non second hand stuff.
Hey, I ordered the game yesterday, and I'm just wondering if someone can give a guesstimate of what kind of settings I could run it on with a nVidia PNY 210 card, 4gb of memory and some regular dual core processor?
(I'm no computer nerd, so I don't know what's as good as what at the moment :S)
Any particular reason for the performance hitches? I plan to get a 4850 for Source(Half-life 2) games and StarCraft II to record with FRAPS, and I really would like flawless gameplay.
There's no such thing as Starcraft II + Flawless gameplay.
I play this game on my Core i7 860 and Radeon 5850 and it still runs at 30fps at times. Or less. I need to OC the cpu to 4.0Ghz to be as close to 60fps as possible.
Now if you add fraps recording to the soup, you can kiss smooth gameplay goodbye. This game is a complete cpu hog.
@toutagamon I am to get a new computer at the end of September, here are the specs. Any chance you could benchmark what the possibilities of it could do for me? Thanks.
@toutagamon Thanks for the tip, and you didn't entirely answer my question. I am looking for professional advice, and I am believe that since you have showed so many benchmarks of games, I believe that you can give me the detailed information I need. BTW, how would an ATi Radeon 5750 suffice for this game and many others, I have seen it in action, it seems to quite well.
The above rig could be up to 25% faster from what you see in this video and I mean the parts where the whole scene is cached and the HDD was not loading like crazy. The rig in this video only has 2GBs of RAM.
The ATI 5750 is about 10% faster than the 4850.
I am no professional though. Just a youtube guy doing benchmarks! ;)
@toutagamon Cool, so the 5750 and the rig I told you I am going get is what is to be my new gaming rig. I hope it will do fantastically. I have read several reviews that with the 5750, SC2 gets around 80 FPS on an average, so that may or not be true, idk, but I'll take their word for it. Thanks for the tips man.
Its hard to get the Best Defense achievement on that level haha but i managed to get it :D

how much memory does your 4850 have? I just got an xfx 4850 1gb for $50 on newegg. Hoping to run sc2 on ultra!

This card should run smoothly with 1200x1000 res.

Mostly due to 2GBs of memory on this system, but the game is a CPU hog anyway.

i3s are dual core with multithreading mate. Not Quad cores.
I believe a Core i5-750 with 4GBs would be a far better choice than an i3 with 8GBs. 4GBs are more than enough for gaming.
