  • When you say maple syrup do you mean real maple syrup or that stuff made from high fructose corn syrupn

  • can i swap out honey for teh maple syrup? thanks!

  • I have a foodwish, I'd love if you could show us the trick to getting granola clusters. Loose granola is okay for cereal and parfait, but the sought after result for snacking granola is to get those delicious granola clusters, like the fancy gourmet granola. Please show us how to get that! Peace, chef.

  • i`m making it every month at least once and never get bored of it! ( varie the ingridients all the time)

Loved the guys personality in this video, made me like this recipe more. =P

  • i like to drizzle a bit of honey on top of that parfait at the end.

  • Who in their right minds would BUY granola, when it's so easy to make!! I love your videos. They are one of my favorite go too's!

  • @reboobyq u got to buy all the ingredients for the granola anyway. i say buying the finished granola is easier.

  • @CT2507 I would tend to agree with you. It might sound crazy, but I love making my own stuff. =) When my family Oooooo's and Ahhhhhhhhh's at how awesome it tastes.. It goads my cooking ego. =D A boxed granola can't do that. <3

  • @reboobyq i know what u mean. i might actually try and make this granola one day. but there are sooooo many other recipes i need to try. life is just too short to do them all! :(

  • The granola looks awesome and the video was very entertaining! Thanks for posting it! I am going to try it today!

Cause It sounds really delicious and it motivate me to cook the food....

    Chef John you are great..

  • I don't mean to nitpick, but aren't those pepitas/pumpkin seeds, not sunf|ower seeds?

    |ooks good though!

  • Amy31415, you are right those are pumpkin seeds....

  • I made something good with just Brown Suger

    Syrup Salt and Oats.(Not Baked)

  • lol, taking the lazy way eh...

...maybe it wasn't baked, but were you?

  • lol "like a sundae but not as good", looks yummy!

  • parfait is french for perfect

  • @greenNINJAspam i like his translation better..

  • lol i put too much syrup

  • chef john!u're so amazing!!! :D

  • chef john, can you make a video showing how to cook a steak "pittsburg" style? i can never get it right.

  • what you did with granola at the end, in french it's called "verrine" :) !

  • I bought one of those silicone baking mats like he suggested and I really like it. Excellent recommendation. I used to work in a bakery that made granola and it was great! Home made granola like this will be much better than store-bought and probably less expensive.

  • "granola", isnt this called müsli?

  • Granola is baked; müsli is kind of "raw"/uncooked.

  • oh thanks. then müsli is way healthier, since it doesnt have sugar or syrap in it. but granola tastes better.

  • Chef John, this stuff is great! And pour on the coconut! There is no such thing as "bad for you food" if it is a natural item. Sure, a lot of man-made chemicals have very negative effects on you. Duh! Just look what they do to food. Keep it from rotting and running nature's course. "Moderation in all things" is the key to healthful eating.

OK, sorry. I'll get down off the soap box.

    Great granola!

  • so excited to do this

  • why would someone do this to themselves?

  • teehee we can see u in the bowl :)

  • Pumpkin Soup next?

  • Looks like a great recipe. I might give yours a try thanks for sharing

  • Damn i hate those pumpkin seeds i ate em alot once and i gotta say they taste bad.

  • I have blood sugar issue, how can I make this granola without using syrup or sugar or using the least amount possible of them?

  • hmm sugar free syrup maybe and splenda idk sorry

  • Kenshin5101...splenda! NOOOOOO! research that...it's horrible stuff! better to eat sugar in it's natural form (hint: it will be brown, not white).

  • You might be able to substitute honey for the sugar.

  • I posted a video w/ granola too...just used honey instead!!!! Yours looks great :-)

  • researchers have found out that cholesterol in food has no effect whatsoever on the level of plasma cholesterol. Fast acting sugars (like soda) are more determinant in producing triglycerides and raising blood cholesterol levels. In fact several studies found out that eating up to 4 eggs a day has no negative effect on the cholesterol level of people with a pre-existing hypercholesterolemia condition.

That beind said, coconut does not contain any cholesterol.

  • I stand corrected, I was misinformed, thanks for the info. I guess the source of the info got cholesterol and saturated fat mixed up or something.

  • don't buy the "coconut is bad for you"myth. check it out for yourself, especially coconut oil. it's VERY healthy!

  • Thanks for that, I'll deffo look into it as I love coconut but have avoided it for years because I read in a book that you shouldn't eat coconut at all because it is so bad for your health.

  • totally wanna make this, but allergic to nuts. trying to think of one more thing to stick in there. hmm.

  • mmm yogurt parfaits are my fave=)

deff going to make my own granola

soon this recipe is so easy, thanks!!!~

  • Just need to clear up, is that 250 degrees fahrenheit or celsius?

  • fahrenheit

  • Thanks for the recipe!!!

  • his partner eh? wink wink nudge nudge?

  • so this is what people call granola... can it be used as a cookie paste or something? I didn't know that sun seeds were used on it.

  • i love your commentary.. you'e always so funny! x

  • How come the granola is so loose? I usually see it as clumps of little bits together, is that because they use more maple syrup and honey?

  • Maybe it's the oil, maybe it's less syrup, maybe it's the bigger pan.

  • it looks like compost

  • Dear John- in Italy it is hard to find maple syrup can one use honey? Thank you

  • Yum yum. :).

  • see? something healthy can also taste so delicious!!! :-)

  • I have blood sugar issues, how can I make granola without sugar or with the least amount possible?

  • that looks goood.

  • Best vid! :] oh bay bee that looks good!

  • i don't care if it's healthy or not, as long as it's delicious

    damn that looks good

  • Dude, your are trapped in the bowl!!

  • too much sugar in the mix... hardly healthy

  • I would like to know why salt as well. I'm sure there is a good reason and it would be nice to hear why.

  • i gues to take down a lil bit the sweetnes and to raise up the flavor on almonds for example, idk just guessing

  • both sugar and salt enhances the flavour of things :-)

  • hmmmmm im liking ur healthy recipes :P

  • Cool recipe... I'm definitely gonna have to make this. I love trail mix and granola stuffs!

  • Great Recipe! We really enjoy all your videos! You are an inspiration to us!

    Cooking Cousins, Sydney and Kristie

  • The parfet is similar to the ones they sell at Mickey-Dees. They use strawberries instead and a bag of granola (not as good as yours) on the side. It may not be as good as yours, but it beats an egg-mcmuffin in heathyness, and it costs only about a dollar.

  • Nice.. I use a similar recipe, but I don't use any oil or salt.. , and I most often use honey as a sweetener

  • KNBR! This is so healthy. I will try this out.

  • the hippys are here :P

    p.s. ur awsome.

  • This is really good.

  • I really like to have it as a cereal its really good

  • Ok this will save me A LOT of money rather than buying from the bulk bins at Whole Foods, AND I will know exectly what I am eating. YAY! Thanks Chef.

  • lol, oh over... and like a sundae but not as good~!

  • Could you use Honey instead of Maple Syrup?
