I have a foodwish, I'd love if you could show us the trick to getting granola clusters. Loose granola is okay for cereal and parfait, but the sought after result for snacking granola is to get those delicious granola clusters, like the fancy gourmet granola. Please show us how to get that! Peace, chef.
@CT2507 I would tend to agree with you. It might sound crazy, but I love making my own stuff. =) When my family Oooooo's and Ahhhhhhhhh's at how awesome it tastes.. It goads my cooking ego. =D A boxed granola can't do that. <3
@reboobyq i know what u mean. i might actually try and make this granola one day. but there are sooooo many other recipes i need to try. life is just too short to do them all! :(
heyy! nice one. Ive gota challenge for you... :D can u make nutri grain bars? heheh... They r lovely! i wanna try making them, i have no idea how they get all that lovely jam like syrup thingee into it before baking.. yum! yum! If you're not sure what I am talking about. Its the kellogs nutri grain bars. Yum! thanks!
I bought one of those silicone baking mats like he suggested and I really like it. Excellent recommendation. I used to work in a bakery that made granola and it was great! Home made granola like this will be much better than store-bought and probably less expensive.
Chef John, this stuff is great! And pour on the coconut! There is no such thing as "bad for you food" if it is a natural item. Sure, a lot of man-made chemicals have very negative effects on you. Duh! Just look what they do to food. Keep it from rotting and running nature's course. "Moderation in all things" is the key to healthful eating.
researchers have found out that cholesterol in food has no effect whatsoever on the level of plasma cholesterol. Fast acting sugars (like soda) are more determinant in producing triglycerides and raising blood cholesterol levels. In fact several studies found out that eating up to 4 eggs a day has no negative effect on the cholesterol level of people with a pre-existing hypercholesterolemia condition.
That beind said, coconut does not contain any cholesterol.
Thanks for that, I'll deffo look into it as I love coconut but have avoided it for years because I read in a book that you shouldn't eat coconut at all because it is so bad for your health.
The parfet is similar to the ones they sell at Mickey-Dees. They use strawberries instead and a bag of granola (not as good as yours) on the side. It may not be as good as yours, but it beats an egg-mcmuffin in heathyness, and it costs only about a dollar.
When you say maple syrup do you mean real maple syrup or that stuff made from high fructose corn syrupn

"granola", isnt this called müsli?
golddigger0325 2 years ago 2
Granola is baked; müsli is kind of "raw"/uncooked.
Furdana 2 years ago
oh thanks. then müsli is way healthier, since it doesnt have sugar or syrap in it. but granola tastes better.

hmm sugar free syrup maybe and splenda idk sorry

Kenshin5101...splenda! NOOOOOO! research that...it's horrible stuff! better to eat sugar in it's natural form (hint: it will be brown, not white).

You might be able to substitute honey for the sugar.

Granola is delish but deffo not healthy.
Apart from the sugar content it has coconut in it which is loaded with cholesterol.

I stand corrected, I was misinformed, thanks for the info. I guess the source of the info got cholesterol and saturated fat mixed up or something.
Zed1967 2 years ago

i love your commentary.. you'e always so funny! x
rainbowgorilla 2 years ago
How come the granola is so loose? I usually see it as clumps of little bits together, is that because they use more maple syrup and honey?
Yvonne83 2 years ago
Maybe it's the oil, maybe it's less syrup, maybe it's the bigger pan.
