I've gone for a swim or two with these ideas... I still find the Gurdjieffian approach a tad didactic (although I honestly don't know if he deserves credit for the idea of sleep - a sense of futility has weighed down many hearts in the course of human history), nonetheless, still useful, as long as I take the lesson with at least a grain of salt.
I have never been able to verify myself that there really is a clear distinction to be made between sleep and wakefulness of the human organism.
no doubt, Gurdjieff's advice is damn good, though hard as hell 2 follow. lord knows I'm duped on a regular basis and sometimes I have trouble verifying the location of my own ass. that's a comment about me, not mr. G.
the direction mr. Gold has taken in recent years through his elucidation of the waking state on a spectrum of consciousness is the best approximation to truth I've heard.. [my paraphrasing] and beautifully weaves the concept of satori to a mind in flux
I hope you'll pardon my whimsy sense of humour! specifically, what you're after is the talk title "Working in the Waking State" for a discussion on the gradations of the waking state and much more.. the talk is part of the "Waking State Series".. click "Waking State" on the left-hand bar on the IDHHB(.com) home page
Gurdjieff didn't write what he did for his time. He never intended to write. It became a thing of necessity -- and his work was for the future. These things are catalyst to connect to the past.
Not sure if that will make sense. Because I am not talking about the past we know, but the past we don't know. Likewise, the Past of oneself, of certain beings.
Gurdjieff's approach is not owned by Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff is a man, who has been in a long line of man connected to the esoteric. One must prove all things.
The horror and vastness of this sleep, when viewed, seen, felt, connected to is probably one of the most shocking experiences. I was fortunate enough, owing up to certain qualities of this life, I could see the sleep at a early age.
"Sleep" in its concept deals with much much much more. It is important to see it first.
Thank you!
