Thank you for the upload! It's a great performance, despite the odd train wreck between Mengelberg and Szekely (160 in the 1st movt!...). In case anyone thinks the tempi are fast, which they are, it's worth bearing in mind that this recording is also sharp, which makes me think that the turntable used to do the transfer was running a hair too fast in places. So the original was probably more relaxed!
Actually, I had the original part in my hands (don't remember if it was the original or a copy), Gàbor Takàcs-Nagy showed it to me. The corrections Székely made are visible, and the 2 notes of the violin entrance were his idea. It is SO hungarian, I love it and think it should absolutely be played like he does it! I think even the metronomical indication in the actual parts are Székelys speads. The third movement is absolutely incredible. Thank you Lupot, this is magical!
yeah the differrence between this opening and other bartok concerto openings (in the sound) is very interesting. Oh and yeah I'm really liking this guy who's playing, although I don't know much about him.
holy this is great recording! thank you!

Fairly different from today's recordings. This interpretation and Midori's melodic rendition of the concerto are probably my favorites.

wow, i though that the performance of Menuhin and Furtwängler was the top of this concerto but this... i doubt of my mind now...
Great interpretation!

The premiere......quite different from today's recording. This is Bartok's intended sound? Interesting

I learned this from an old recording with Max Rostal as soloist. This is such a joy to hear it at its premiere!! Many thanks indeed.

today this piece is played more angrily at the beginning, but I wonder how actually Bartok wanted to sound it.....Like Szekely plays it??
elisabeth717 4 years ago
