check out lyoto vs rafael lovato (one of the best bjj in the u.s.) people don't know how good his ground game is but if machida can defend against a world class bjj like lovato, he'll be doing great for a long time
Yea the thing with machida is that no one has figured out how to fight him. He is extremely frustrating to fight and fighters get irritated and begin chasing after him and play right into his hands. He is really disciplined and does not shy away from his style. I have a whole lot of respect for him.
About Machida I don't necessarily think it has to be a take down guy. People have taken him down before, but he also has excellent Jiu-jitsu, and he gets back up. Someone working the angles, and cutting off the octagon is, as far as I can tell, going to be the only type of opponent that will give Machida a problem. If you follow him around, like tito, or his last opponent, or all of his opponents, you will just eat his punches and kicks the whole fight. And that leg trip he does.
To beat Machida you need an excellent gameplan. That's why the only threat for him in the entire 205 div is Rashad Evans (with Greg Jackson on his side). Other than that Anderson Silva would be a threat but he's Lyoto's friend and partner and he wants Lyoto to take the 205 belt.
yeah even if fans would want it we probably wouldnt get to see a lyoto silva fight, they are good friends, and yeah rashad does have a decent chance against lyoto if hes at the top of his game, cuz u need to be at the top of his game if not i dont see how someone could take machida, they need to start a brawl
yeah but not even that, like a brawl the way wanderlei pressed jackson, i mean thiago didnt try and brawl he tried to stalk machida and stand up with him, and you just cant do that with machida his striking game is second 2 known plus with the karate techniquige mixed in he is so hard for fighters to figure out thiago didnt even land a punch much less do anything, soko did better than thiago, he did try and press the action a few times, but he gave up and stoped which gave machida an opening.
Because when you chase Machida aggressively he counters you painfully. You stop and just try staling, he pot shots you. You jump in recklessly and get knocked down.
Machida is just this Karate machine. And he's awesome.

Joe Rogan likes Machida, Shonie Carter likes Machida, Royce Gracie likes Machida, Anderson Silva likes Machida, Randy Couture likes Machida.
Drunk rednecks and bloodthirsty idiots don't like Machida.
I wonder who's right?

Machida is an artist in the Octagon. Period.

I bet the drunk rednecks enjoyed the last outing. Machida is amazing. I liken him to our sports version Ali. Elusive, and dangerous.

My picks:
GSP
Machida
Bonnar
Parisyan
Diaz by submission (Although im a big Guida fan)
Fitch
Manny Gamburyan (If he looses i think it's cuz hes just too small for the weightclass he should definetly go down)
