Lovely sound, great playing and appropriate sound effects for a harpsichord. That's what they do; make a bit of mechanical clatter if the microphone is close enough! And so do the great Cavaille-Coll organ consoles!
@bigposaune - Shit! And the world is rob of another talent. Damn, that's too bad. He played so beautifully. Damn, that's just sucks. Sorry for his friends and family.
it is obvious some people can only see the bad side of all. forget about the clakaty clack sound and listen how wonderful this man plays . a little bit of culture please!
Beautiful, expressive playing! I'm on my 3rd harpsichord - a spinet actually, made from a kit in the 1960's. Simply can't afford the nicer instruments, but hey - a spinet for $200 that required only a bit of work to make playable again!
Am so glad that the harpsichord revival is still going strong, with better and more accurate instruments being made and played by people like you.
Wow. I must confess this is the 1st time i hear this i randomly got into this video but as soon as i started hearing i felt soooo relaxed, sleepy...i dont know i felt strange. Lovely song and i quiet enjoyed hearing the tips of the musician aswell :]
Thanks much for this video! AS much as I worship Bach's music, I always had a special affinity for the French Baroque. And this piece is one of the reasons why I do.
What a fantastic performance of a fantastic piece! This piece perfectly illustrates what French Baroque is all about: putting the listener into an altered state which just floats there. It doesn't have the goal-directedness of, say Bach, lacks strong melodies, so it has been neglected till lately. But it does its own thing in its own way. Beautifully played; I hope we hear many more gems like this from this artist!
Indeed, as I scan the comments before mine, I realize I have noted a true exception to the run of harpsichord music I've run into, and it's not "just me", but this is unusual fare, this "French harpsichord music", in its capacity to offer beautiful sentimentalities of sound, with rythm and coherence.
Beautiful piece of music

Excellent! And a "real" harpsichord. I have loved long since the noise of mechanics in ancient organs, but that's very fine in this harpsichord too.

With so much clakaty clack noise in the background this instrument would make the perfect one for Spanish music with castenets in the background

is it possible to turn the radio down a little next time so we can fully enjoy the sounds of your typewriter without the distracting music?

Considering the cost of a raw kit, you did _very_ well to find a spinet in need of but little work at $200.

I'd love to know how you make your playing flow like that. It's amazing, and the best harpsichord playing I've heard. Wonderful stuff.

keyboard's noise does not bother me at all. it's even better with. great piace, great interpretation and great recording quality. thanks

The noise of the keyboard action and jacks is quite distracting in this recording. Better mike placement might help.

The piece is LOVELY, I think French Baroque is greatly under-appreciated today and this needs to change. Especially Rameau, he was a genius.
However, I HATE the annoying clicking sound that the clavecin's action makes. Just like and old typewriter. Is there a way to fix that?
susumu07 3 years ago
You can play on clavicord maybe or use the luth way to play it. Or change instrument :-)
When harpsichord exists, it was no typewriter.
The best way would probably to play in clavicord. But is it possible technically ? Not sure. Ask a specialist.

Dear Clover,I knew that you had to be italian.
Y?because in spite of your training, you are still
perstisting to try and be expressive. You should
be good boy and play to the same metronome as
the other Cembalists.I'm going to favorite this,
but only on the condition that you stop restraining
yourself and really begin to let it out.
You'll be hated,as all expressive people are,
but so what?Your Friend,Smith
