I think the problem was not that they were offered a longer set and bigger pay, but they were an EXCLUSIVE to Sonisphere right from the start and they had turned to Download where they had been offered higher than Limp Bizkit. So technically Sonisphere broke the agreement and thought Machine Head would accept another slot elsewhere.
Have to say though, Limp Bizkits set was an embarrassment to watch after Machine Head's. After the hype created after Download I was expecting them to be better!

You gotta understand though, they've had the 3rd slot for months now, and all of sudden they just get that taken away from them? I woulda done the same thing. Machinehead has every right to say fuck you to the organizers, to be bumped by Fred and Limp bizkit is a massive insult to Machinehead. MH thoroughly respect and love their fans. they arent playin simply cos they were disrespected by the festival organisers, not just because limp bizkit took their place, though admittedly it being that specific band may have fueled the fire. i'm pretty sure that if anyone here was playin a gig and was bumped with no say in the matter they would be pretty pissed off so its completely understandable from my point of view.
i know i'm probs gonna get some stick for this but the way i see it this is the festival organisers fault. its pretty inexcusable for them to announce limp bizkit in machine head's slot without even consulting MH about it, thus breaking the already standing contract they had with MH. i'm sure that if they were treated well by the festival organisers machine head would no doubt love to play the festival regardless of who else is playing.
To Pull out of a Music Festival cause another Band are Playing their is Pathetic and is letting people down. If they said they were playing then they should stick to that. This could cost them fans of the band.

@romanblood the average machine head song is say about 5-6 minutes long, 2 of which have all of the members playing/singing etc.
my point is, i dont have enough time in my life to listen to a machine head album, i prefer bands who get into the song before i fall asleep
