@jmaster38 the only upgrade the Hartford Civic Center could stand to bring back an NHL team is a wrecking ball. If you remember ever seeing them on TV, the stands went almost vertical, and the place had bad sightlines. Not to mention capacity at 15,635 would put it just above winnipeg for max cap.....No matter how much renovation you put into the XL Center, it is still outdated, still not NHL Capable, and needs replaced.

I always liked the Whalers..but it seemed they never really had great attendance. I admit i didn't follow them closely, and maybe I'm just remembering them the last few years.
I remember this theme from NHL 96 on the Genesis/Mega Drive, I was only 8 when I played that and being from the UK I didn't really get to watch Ice Hockey as it was hard to find on T.V but I loved the game and I loved this theme, it sounded very good on the Genesis/Mega Drive too.
This is a real kick ass theme and I remember it well. One day back in the 80s our Edmonton Oilers-with Wayne Gretzky,Mark Messier and all the rest of the great team went into Hartford and had an off day...and were lit up for 11 goals! By the end of the game they remembered this song well too. I only recently heard that the team in the A.H.L. is called Connecticutt rather than Hartford. I didn't know that the Wolfpack had been renamed the Whale though. A nice tribute to their N.H.L./W.H.A. past.

@de132 It's an idea, but I think that for the amount of money it would cost to renovate it, it makes more sense to just build a new one. That's just an outsider's opinion, but that's generally the case when it comes to renovating vs building a new rink/stadium.

Sorry obiwan leave the Coyotes alone! It's not like the Ducks sell out nightly in Anaheim. I'm an ex-Whalers STH, and they do not deserve another team! Like QC & Winnipeg, Hartford is too small a city for today's NHL.

@azrick54 I think QC and Winnipeg lost their teams because of something with the Canadian dollar at that time and average teams. I don't think the Tampa market is larger than Winnipeg, but there is a team in Tampa.

@UncleStumpy Hullsizer is the last guy to have ownership for the Coyotes and if it fails the Yotes will be out of Phoenix sooner than 10 years, more like next season if the deal fails. I'm guessing their moving somewhere else not sure where they will intend to move them.

That charade in Phoenix with the city council was simply embarassing...Bettman would rather piss off the entire nation of Canada than admit he was wrong and the city council would rather spend themselves into oblivion than admit they couldn't turn a profit with--GASP!--a hockey team in the desert!
And I'm a lifelong ANAHEIM DUCKS fan, so I'm not just a "Canada-only" person, my expansion team made sense and we didn't STEAL a team! BRING 'EM BACK!

@rockerseven Yeah...there's almost NO ONE in those seats, and it's been 17 or so years.
In that time my Ducks have an average of at least 85-90% capacity, have turned a profit, have won a Cup and been to another, made the playoffs about 50% of the time, people outside Anaheim actually CARE about them and recognize them as a legitimate team...
The Coyotes can't say that...or the Thrashers...or the Panthers, really...the Predators are also on thin ice...

look over the years, the only times when the yotes were horrible are the last couple...because all news of them was "coyotes bankrupt, team will leave"
but before that, the yotes had around 85% capacity as well, and some years even had higher attendance than your ducks
the penguins had horrible attendance in 04...should they have moved?

Ha! I saw a New England Whalers game year before the roof collapsed at the civic ctr. Good thing the roof did not collapse during the Whalers/USSR exhibition game (which was 3 weeks earlier) or there would have been an international incident, LOL!

This was also the Hawks theme when they moved to Altanta. They were then on the WQXI-TV era of 11 Alive WXIA-TV, if I remember correctly, then WTCG 17 (later WTBS and currently WPCH Peachtree TV.) The Hawks have been on other stations since.
