Just so we're clear, this track is the guitar and bass from Waterfall played backwards with some new drumming.

The lyrics are new also but were inspired but what Ian thought it sounded like when they played the original lyrics backwards.

The Stone Roses didn't just do it this one time either (although I think that Don't Stop was their best one). But "Guernica" is "Made of Stone" backwards, with different forward vocals. And "Simone" is just "Where Angels Play" backwards.

I'm not sure if this is sarcastic or not but I'll answer it honestly anyway. Radiohead made an interesting song called 'Like Spinning Plates' in which an earlier song was played backwards, singer Thom Yorke learnt the resulting new melody, sung it forwards and the new lyrics backwords and reversed it all in production. Avey Tare from Animal Collective and his wife reversed a whole album before releasing it. I'm sure there are other examples.

This album is a cross between The White Album and Revolver. Tomorrow never knows is exactly what I was thinking. Right there with The Inner Light ( George Harrison).

elephant stone is full fathom five/ made of stone is guernica/ where angels play is simone and waterfall is this. HOW IT'S DONE: reverse gate is when you take the reverb and play it backwards. they played waterfall backwards, using reverse gate where necessary, putting soundalike words over what they heard. then they buried and brought out what they wanted from the mix, overdubbing where needed.
