I get the sense that the audience doesn't have a clue what Matt Good is talking about. Politics? The outside world? Matthew Good Band's music was one of my favorite things in high school. He's someone I really respect - so glad his overdose didn't take him away too soon! He's still a fascinating man and the music is still fantastic.
I remember being the girl that was getting crushed at the front of the barrier....went to a Matthew Good Band concert in my first year of college (2001), being at the front of the stage and getting showed into the barrier. I drank quite a bit before the concert and thought that I was gonna hurl all over the security guy that was sitting there doing absolutely nothing. Good times.
no it's not that he doesn't LIKE beautiful midnight, he just said he didn't like the crowd it appealed it...but he didn't say he didn't like the music itself!
He is hugely proud of that album. He just prefered a much different public response to it. The album is really well done!
I wanna point out I wasn't a fan of hospital music when it first came out, but it's really growing on me. The lyrics are really well done particularly.
This guys troubles and perception work in tandem and manifest in his music. And because of this unfortunate mix there is something available to us that is more then your typical music portfolio. Like somebody singing on their death bed, its dark and beautiful together at the same time.
I often wonder if I would trade peace of mind for some ailment that would stomp my life with pain and frustration while leaving behind a monumental foot print for all to enjoy.
you know, it's funny -- some people with bipolar disorder say that given the choice, they would still choose to have the disorder because of the "up" times when they are capable of producing so much art-wise, or idea-wise... and although I'm not bipolar per se (maybe cyclothymic, tho never been for diagnosis), I don't think I'd want to be "normal" either; I appreciate the intensity of the polar opposites... then again, I've never been suicidally low; that may change things.
I remember years ago I was visiting a friend in Regina and MGB was playing the ex there...anyway, he got the name of the city wrong, he called Regina Winnipeg and got booed hard and hit in the head with some hillbillies shoe. He started freaking out and was like, "im never fucking playing this place AGAIN!!" I was probably the only one cheering the whole Winnipeg thing cuz I'm from there. Apparently he never has played there again..LMAO
The thing about Matthew Good that is awesome, is that everything that you hear in his music, exists in his personality, too. There's intelligence, insight and challenge in his lyrics, those things which shine through his personality. He's really down-to-Earth... Especially for an artist with so much success. Forever a fan.
i was in thorold (near st kits) where that i hear matt good is a real asshole shirts were sold. i wish i would have bought one. I'm going to see him june 24 in kamloops.
Matthew Good's an incredibly intelligent musician, believe me you just don't get a whole lot of that these days, he's very opinionated, open, honest, and in a way you sort of see how his personality shows through his music, I guess that is why he is so good, there is so much more that you want to learn from the guy and often times you never really know why guy you are talking too. It fascinates me that Matthew Good is so open about his Bi-Polar, what does George say at the end of the interview.
I love Matt, and I usually love George, but that felt like a bad interview...I wouldn't push him on subjects like that. If I had MATT GOOD on a couch in front of me, lol I would have a totally different approach ;)
Matt's always been a very straight forward person like that, George didn't really push him on anything, If you've been to one of his concerts he talks openly about his bipolarity, and how he hates a lot of the stuff he did with Matthew Good Band.
FUCKER! He was diagnosed, by a doctor. I don't think he woke up one day and said "Holy shit, I'm gonna tell everyone I have bi-polarity because I want to cover up the fact that I'm an artist and am to embarassed to show that I have high highs and low lows just like all the other artists." Suck my chode. pwnd.

Awesome, I missed this episode. I had no idea Matt Good was on. He was my highschool music hero. Still listen to Beautiful Midnight every now and then. Wish you could've had a longer interview.
This was a bit of an awkward interview, because every time Matt started to get involved with the previous question, George changed the topic.
