  • like my comment f you thought the title said deadmau5

  • @DjShaft138 Nobody though that, because nobody here is gay.

  • @DjShaft138 get out of here

  • beautiful box it is, pay close attention to the hand-written in and out at the midi ports, love it!!

  • terrible sound why would u post this dude

  • sound quality fail.

  • Where can I buy one of these toasters with a built-in microphone?

  • garbage

  • Is Daedelus Scott Harren?

  • @AlexKalicinski yes that is his name

  • @AlexKalicinski no wait that's wrong Daedelus is Alfred something Scott Heron is Prefuse73

  • @UrbanCrunkMovement Thank you!

  • Best sound quality ever.

  • @DCgreenery lol I was thinking the same thing!

  • audio distorted.... hard to handle

  • great video quality!

  • wouldnt it be easier if its actually facing him?

  • its daedelus, isn't it?

  • I saw this guy play live like 4 or 5 years ago...it sounded great and he tore the roof off. If you can use this thing to move a floor as much as he did - you gotta have some kind of talent.

  • Who cares if it takes no talent it still takes for ever to make up a mix like that and to remember the buttons and also who gives a shit the music is good so stop talking shit and enjoy the music

  • @colinwhitrock Who cares if it takes forever to program this? The fundamental requirement of music is that it be enjoyable to listen to, which this is not. I don't have to like something because it was tedious to put together, nor do I have to like something because it's difficult to put together, which this is not.

  • thats not mau5

  • @tdaman123 no shit its not deadmau5, its deadelus....learn to read

  • @TripIntoAnothaWorld

It's "beathauz". Seek help for your dyslexia.

  • wow this is repeating bull shit

  • EVERYONE TAKE A LOOK AT OILMANS VIDS AND PLEASE TELL HIM THE TRUTH HE THINKS HIS MUSIC IS GOOD!

  • Comment removed

  • @WastedTalent26 I can't believe that whole post was one sentence. Your stuff's okay, but you have a lot of work ahead of you if you're trying to compete with guys like Daedalus. Also, it's INput, not IMput.

  • @olimann900 Sorry French is my first language anyways I am lacking equipment ur lacking talent as I can see I laughed so hard at ur vids U have a lounge band that sounds like ur just learned from high school band practice, Im glad ur no Deadmau5 commenting on me lol...

  • @WastedTalent26 Haha you're sad, man, I don't have to talk up my music because I know I can play, and I don't waste time putting all my shit up on youtube. Good luck with the whole DJing thing, and just keep pretending there aren't a million guys who sound just like you.

  • @olimann900 DUDE SERIOUSLY LOOK AT UR VIDS UR A LOUNGE BAND ENOUGH SAID I FALL ASLEEP TRYING TO VIEW UR VIDS I SEE NO TALENT NO COMMENTS SO SAVE UR BANTER AND LEARN SOMETHING UR GOOD AT FOR NOW THE MUSIC U PLAY IS REALLY BAD AND BEING SERIOUS. UR LIKE THE WEDDING SINGERS BAND!

  • @olimann900 You don't waste time putting things on YouTube because you're insecure and you know you can't play.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice

You, my friend, are quite mislead. Sorry you felt the need to start a flame war because that you decided Daedelus is talentless based on a 30 second clip of one of his DJ sets. Daedelus is a PRODUCER. He produces music. Whether you like it or not, producing music takes an immense amount of talent. Yeah, what he's doing in this video is just DJing with a MIDI controller, it still takes more talent than you think.

  • Whats name this song??

  • It is a music instrument. A digital music instrument. Is Dj'ing a talent? Is drum programming a talent? I know real musicians who can't program a drum machine. I know drum programmers who can't play a piano. They are all musicians in their own right. They make music. ITS 2011....... THESE ARE THE INSTRUMENTS OF OUR TIME.

  • @KozmotheKid well put

  • @KozmotheKid Who cares if a real musician can't program a drum machine? He could if he wanted to, but being able to do such a thing when you're an actual musician is tertiary to making REAL MUSIC that requires ACTUAL TALENT. You're like a child not to understand this, but that's okay -- I'm sure there are plenty of other idiots who agree with you because they can't think for themselves, eitehr.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice My point is once you learn your instrument. The Technical stuff: chords progressions, how to read or play by ear, it is about style because there is no more effort required to do the technical stuff. Style sets each musician apart. Once a musicianship has got down the technicalities of their instrument, what makes them unique? Judging by your name, you are just not open minded. I don't want to change you.

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • Finally -- a musical instrument that requires NO talent. Oh boy. I can stand there and push buttons, too. Big deal.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice Not really an instrument, is it? Doesn't play notes. It's basically a glorified step sequencer/clip launcher. And the skill comes in setting the thing up.

  • @tactical92fs Sort of like how all of the skill in becoming a guitar/sax/drum/whatever player is in prepping/memorizing/seeing what goes where/hearing what sounds good over and going into what/etc?

  • @helsquiades Relax, my friend, relax. No one is saying using midi equipment requires the same skill as playing an acoustic instrument. God knows Justice has nothing on Mozart. Just saying you're comparing apples and oranges.

  • @tactical92fs If the skill comes in setting this "instrument" up, where does the actual talent come in? I anxiously await your response.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice The talent, my very perturbed friend, comes in creating music that moves people. This is a step up from your typical DJ, so if anything you should be glad electro is heading in the right direction. Used to be just lazers and smoke machines.

  • @tactical92fs Well, this doesn't move me, so I'd say he failed pretty badly in that respect.

Like I said -- this doesn't require TALENT.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice I know you're probably just trolling but I used to think the same thing (as a musician of 11 years) until I realized what a revolution this kind of stuff is (bare with me here). Basically, technology for producing/recording music has become insanely available and affordable which has allowed for several innovations in production techniques. Musicians like myself can now be more creative than ever because I can invent never before heard tones and then write songs withthem

  • @WithExtremePrejudice (2nd comment) so an increasing amount of these artists are taking advantage of this and were seeing a whole new synthesis of genres, one of the most significant of which happened with daft punk in the 90s. They brought together what is imo boring lame techno house and fused it with sexy george clinton style funk bass lines to create a new sound that was musically informed. Today, artists like Justice, SebastiAn (or anyone from edbanger) continue to blur these genre lines

  • @WithExtremePrejudice 3rd comment. so I think about it this way. I play rock music. Any time I'm going to write a song or if someone tells me about a rock song, etc, I already know it probably features bass, drums, guitar, vocals, and maaaaybe some sort of keys/synth. In other words, it isnt hard to tell how the song was made/whats creating the sounds but with well produced electronic music, I have a much harder time identifying how the sounds were created which takes a whole new kind ofskil

  • @mexicanstorm TL;DR

So what? It's not music, it's not good, and it takes no talent.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice what makes music different from just noise then? I'd say sound has to at least have rhythm and possibly melody for it to be musical. Hows electronic music not music? It uses all the same concepts as every other kind of music (it has rhythm and pitch/melody). whether or not it was made electronically or acoustically, it has enough qualities to be music (obviously). also, machines don't create music by themselves, humans still have to write/perform it, theyre useful.

  • @mexicanstorm I'd say that this is just noise. It sounds like a flatulent expulsion, and judging by how this video is rated, I'd say that a lot of people agree with me. The primary requirement of music is that it is pleasant to listen to, which this is not. To say otherwise is just asinine.

That this discussion is now devolving into an argument about the difference between noise and music is just reason enough for me not to bother with this silliness any longer. Go troll someone else.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice Obviously whether or not something is "pleasant to listen to" is a personal opinion, which also isnt exclusive to music. I personally think the sound of the ocean is pleasant to listen to but that doesn't make it music. As for this video sounding like a "flatulent expulsion" (redundant term btw), that's most likely due to the shitty quality of the video, I'm sure the sound was much richer in person.

  • @mexicanstorm Id call the sound of the ocean music if you just tune into sound it is music!

  • @mexicanstorm "Pleasant to listen to" is not a personal opinion -- it's obvious to anyone who listens to this. No one with any sense would deny that this music is abrasive and (by proxy) obnoxious. You are painting yourself a fool to pretend otherwise. I'm sure that this garbage sounded just as flatulent in person.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice So you literally think everyone has the same ideas as you? You don't think anyone finds this "pleasant to listen to"? Hes just able to play these shows and upload videos of them and get hundreds of thousands of views even though everyone on the planet feels the same way you do about him? Obviously this is not the case, some people like him, some don't, not everyone feels the same way. Good job trollin btw, I'm sure you'll keep it up regardless of how much sense I make.

  • @mexicanstorm No, but I do think there are quite a few people who laud music as innovative or creative or whatever, all the while ignoring what their eyes and ears are telling them, which is incredibly pretentious. Who cares if this video has over a hundred thousand views? Clearly there are a lot of people who agree with me about this garbage, since this video has far more dislikes than likes. Listen to what your ears tell you is good, not what the odious denial area of your ego says is good.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice People don't like it because of the video/audio quality, not because of the artist. Come on man, you're smarter than that...

  • @WithExtremePrejudice If thats what you think I think your mind an soul need an enema!

  • @lesleynaughty I think your ears need an enema!

  • @WithExtremePrejudice if your tastes in music are so constipated why are you watching this video theres loads of shit music on YouTube so stop slagging off our top DJs

  • @WithExtremePrejudice I want to see you mix sounds to create music.

  • @ZukunftMorder And I want to see you realize what pointless, talentless dreck this is, but it's not going to happen, is it?

  • @ZukunftMorder No, you don't, you just want something you can pretend to listen to so you can cross your arms and say "AHA! I knew your opinion wasn't worth shit!" without even actually listening to it.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice The talent comes in after you're done setting it up, ie the composition and sequencing of the audio/musical material he's manipulating with this device. Stop equating musical skill with the technical skill required to fret a string or hit a key appropriately and at the right time. In other words, Beethoven isn't remembered so much for his piano playing, but his writing.

  • @fierylungs You don't know what true talent is. I'd explain it to you, but frankly, talent is something you either have or don't, and you just don't get it. This doesn't take talent. It's bullshit button mashing.

  • Funny, my comment wasn't meant to be insulting but you (being the insecure guitarist you are) took it that way. I also like how you think you know ANYTHING about my playing abilities.

  • @WithExtremePrejudice That's exactly what playing the piano is...

  • @WithExtremePrejudice I highly doubt you could do anything Daedelus does musically. IT TAKES MORE SKILL THAN YOU THINK

  • @davidburkett95 I believe that you believe this takes skill. However, regardless of whatever other dumb shit you believe, this still doesn't require talent. Next.

  • WTF was that??????

  • WTF?????

  • system got raped... :'(

  • deadelus..

    deadmau5..

    monome..

    hmmm

  • Do you think the sound could possibly be any MORE distorted?

  • fucking headache this, and I am the ultimate electro fan so I know what I talk bout

  • @MageAtYou you cant be a electronic fan and not like daedelus. come on man. haha

  • @MageAtYou Hey, you think your headache might not be caused by the actual music? Maybe it's caused by this pile of shit sound quality. Sounds like my ears are getting raped by an elephant if the elephant had a disease where it really really hurt to have sex so he started trumpeting while he raped my ears.

  • @gorillaman2000 funny because now when I watch this I like the tune

  • Amazing!!!! Love it :) But how does this box work?!?!?!?

  • monome pads are sick !!!!!!

  • i didnt read the name closely enough, i thought this was a deadmou5 video at first lol

  • @clintcastle Same thing happened to me.

  • That's a nice toy.

  • its a nice piece of equipment. its the same thing as a midi keyboard, just a square layout.

  • i want one!

  • Sick bass

  • nasty fucker.. love this cat!!

  • i think this is the prototype monome that he was given before it was released

  • is that monome or some weird monome offshoot

  • he made it himeself

  • It's a Monome. Since they are so customizable he chose to have it in a wood box with round buttons

  • some people cant take a joke

  • I saw him use this a long time ago at a party in VENICE.

I think long before the MONOME was out??

    Not sure though.

Awesome Infinite Complexity show yeas ago.

    Peace

    to Doug

  • Needs more bass, amirite?

  • oh i guess... :)

  • @Denshuu the audio is just a bit iffy

  • anybody know what song it is?

  • It's called, "Say Yes."

It's only on his live CDs (which are on iTunes), I think it's a mix of, "Sundown," and some other songs. Whatever it is, it's awesome.

  • say yes is just a mashup of Sundown, he mashes up all his songs when he's live so i'd say this song is Sundown

  • custom made monome

  • this was one of the first prototypes. I spent most of the set just watching it when I saw him play. ;-)

  • @noodles1428 monome prototype to be correct ;P

  • @noodles1428 monome prototype*

  • it looks like a 16x16 monome prototype

  • sure does.

he now uses usb rather than midi

  • it is a just a pattern based midi controller. probably made by him but this invantion has another owner.

  • Invention.

    It's INVENTION.

  • Invention is also a song by daedelus...

    One of his best imo.

  • I saw him play in Atlanta, but this setup was confusing. The lights moved to the music, but none of the keys with samples are labeled. How does he do it?

  • he's amaaaaazing :D

  • I think they're mapped out and labeled on the computer from my understanding of how Monomes work.

And I'm sure with how much he uses a Monome its just like how people can look at a keyboard and find a C or a G. He probably programs the buttons similarly in every song so he remembers most of it.

  • is that something he made? it hooks up with the laptop, but I have no clue what interfaces and programs it.

  • It's a Monome. Probably ableton live+other software

  • it's the original prototype for monome

it doesn't work on ableton cause they didn't know how to write the software at the time :)

  • its not ableton its MaxMSP

  • Fair enough, i wasn't sure that's why I said Probably and other software. Ableton works with Monomes.

  • chicken says bok bok baagok

  • It's not baagok it's BokMSP

  • Oh, my bad. Thanks for the correction... This is good to know as I plan to bokmsp as well

  • that thing is so sick , my roommate put me on to it . super rad

  • genius ditto
