This is a gas turbine engine, which is designed to power a transmission attached to a helicopter. Jet engines are turbines also, but deliver power in a different way. Most are fan jets now, meaning that the turbine spins a large fan, which provides the thrust.

@getechautomation i think its a turbine, and not a jet engine... turbine moves the rotors of a helicopter.

Almost sounds like a hung start or low starter power/torque or just a poor compressor. Watch your starting tgt limit!

Oil on startup could be leaking turbine oil seal. Seems like a lot of unburnt fuel on shutdown faulty SOC/burners?

Starting into wind should have no effect at all -it can cause the engine to windmill usually backwards which the starter has to overcome.Most jet engines are started in an enclosed test cell at some point in their lives, having no trouble with startup.

the settings have to be adjusted during shut down the engine is still pumping fuel in to the burners

Why does it take so long to started? A Nimbus should be at idle speed in just seconds not minutes? Sounds great once it gets there.
