Buddhism has for too long been insular, monastic-oriented, and male-dominated. Tibet was isolated from the modern world until 1959, and missed the huge social and technological changes of the last 500 years, with unfortunate consequences. Like most religions it has also had a very difficult time dealing with issues of sexuality, and Kalu Rinpoche suffered as a result. I applaud him for coming forth now to help and change the system for the better, so it matches the ideals of Buddhism itself.
It has always been suppressed and hushed but now in this modern era of mass-individual-expression-rights, it is high time to come out in the open and be dealt with in the just way. It must be brought into the light and it is the responsibility of the teachers to now punish the act and protect the innocent.
Isn't it funny that the reincarnation of Kalu Rinpoche says that he has been sexually abused ? Knowing that his former incarnation had been accused himself of sexual abused by one of his disciples ? Could it be a retribution ?
This video is very moving for me. I was nun ordained at 1999. Then I was trained as nun at the monastery called Rabten Choeling Center. The time passing there was hard for me also. So much that I was becoming sick there. Even that, I tried to keep in touch with the monastery during twelve years. Now I am not nun anymore, having given back my vows. Still I am buddhist. And I like the sincerity of Kalu Rinpoche very much. From my experience I can say he is really a noble person, you can trust him.
@drolkaran firstly, i don't think anyone forced you to become a nun and if anyone did then it would be for your sake...secondly, can you enlighten us on the hardship u faced during ur time being a nun. i feel very sad knowing that u have learnt nothing in those tweleve years from the place where you could have gained the most knowledge....... just because you couldn't commit to your vows don't blame it to the monastery.
