Thank you for the video. When I did this to my site it left "Comments are closed" at the bottom of my pages. Is there a fix for that???

OMG THANK YOU! I've watched So many videos trying to figure out how to turn off comments on a page and yours is the first to show me that I needed to go to screen options. @veg4life - Thanks for the compliments. You'll have to blame WordPress (in their desire to simplify their interface) for *hiding* this setting; it used to be a little easier to turn comments of, but at least you still can!
