  • Paintshop Pro hangs up repeatedly on simple tasks like adjusting brightness and contrast on medium sized photos!

  • @pmp2718 Yes it does and it is really, really annoying. Perhaps you should contact Corel to see if they can help you out with that. Mine hangs with curves ...

    Rich

  • thank you very much Riberg..you are great.!

  • @Iamhappy149 Well thanks ...!

    Rich

  • Great airbrush technique with PSP. the salt and pepper filet can be used to remove spots on photos by creating multiple selections then salt and pepper will be rid of them. Great on those older scanned in photos

  • Hey mate... nice tutorial i love it .... i was wondering have you done a tutorial on eye bags and how to get rid of them in paint shop pro?

  • @Rezzmiester101 Thanks. I don't have a tutorial on getting rid of eye bags but it is a good idea.

Let me ponder on it for a bit ...

  • @piplington Um, I think his name is Rich as he signs all comments with it

  • Photoshop has thaht and SO MUCH MORE. But it is a cool video ;)

  • @X13ful Ya - you are correct however there are people who don't want Photoshop, can't afford Photoshop or prefer Paint Shop Pro.

This video is for them ...

  • ТЫ АИДАР ПОКАЗЫВАЙ КАК ТЫ ДЕЛАЕШЬ А ТУТ НЕ ПИЗДЕТЬ

  • @INAL3393 Thanks ...!

    Rich

  • Nice tip!

  • @Mikutovskis Thanks ...

    Rich

  • Thanks heaps! Now i can look SEXAYY :D

  • @CharliesTheName Har - I bet you already do ...

    Rich

  • this was great!! thanks!

  • @TheMaddiesaurus I'm glad you liked it - thanks for the comments.

    Rich

  • Excellent technique using the gaussian blur in conjuction with layers!! I had to work with a model who had severe acne scarring and it was a challange to smooth her skin. This method would have saved me much time! Thanks!!

  • @mustangeddie302 Sheesh - these things seem to come into our lives after we first need them, right?

Perhaps it is so we can really appreciate a technique that may be much easier!

    Rich

  • @mustangeddie302 Maybe you should have gotten a different model.

  • is this your wife lol

  • @windson7 Ummmmm - no - apparently it is Natalie Portman ....

    Richard

  • that's Natalie Portman

  • @MrsBarron916 Is it? I just found the picture on a free image site ...

    R

  • @riberg yeah it is. i love her. she can't take a bad picture

  • @MrsBarron916 Thanks for telling me. The picture was really easy to work with and she didn't need much to make her look great ...

    Rich

  • oh damn that girl is sooo seeexy.

  • @windson7 Ya think? She is nice ...

    Rich

  • Can you do a tutorial on how to make a piture CLEAR? PLEASE!

  • @S3l3inia What do you mean by CLEAR?

    Rich

  • Thats black ! :D

  • @krikukiks Huh?

    Rich

  • I have no idea if you can help but I converted to this method as soon as I saw it, great vid aswell, even though I use x3 now with the skin smoothing feature I still use this when I'm being really fussy, thing is aftertis working for so long for some reason when I get to the brush stage now it wont paint back in the detail, are you aware of this and do you know of a fix, im guessing I changed something somewhere that is preventing it from working...?

  • @sypherdias Hi - sorry it took so long to reply - busy, busy.

Anyway I have never heard of this before and I figure what you are describing (not painting back the details) should be totally illegal.

You are painting with black, right - and working on the Mask Copy of Background?

It should work but perhaps it is some kind of glitch in the program. Have you had an upgrade of X3 from Corel?

Sorry I can't be more helpful with this.

Good luck and I am glad you like the technique ...

    Rich

  • @riberg There has been an update recently although I have now discovered that the technique works with the airbrush, which providing the settings are right makes no diference whatsoever other than having a slightly smoother effect!, it would seem that the recent update prevents you from painting over mask layers with the paintbrush, strange I know but thanks for the reply anyway, thought I should post incase anyone else had encountered the issue.

  • @sypherdias Now that is downright weird - you can't paint on a mask layer with X3?

    Rich

  • @riberg Well I can't thats for sure!, if it is a feature they removed it is very strange as they have allowed the use of the airbrush over mask layers, which ultimately as I said before has exactly the same affect.

  • thanks for the amazing tips here it is so refreshing to get these tips without the annoying music and somebody takes the time to fully explain the steps

  • @numberoneportsmouth I appreciate what you said in your comment. As you said it's just so annoying having to listen to some music when you are trying to learn a technique.

I promise never to add music but I did hum on one of my videos - but only for a second or two and I assured YouTube it was my own composition!

    Rich

  • AWESOME video

  • @tabbycorales Awesome comment - thanks ...!

    Rich

  • THANK YOU!!!!.... I just got PSP X, after working with PSP 9 for over a few years, and well I have always been doing the duplicate layer, and the blur of the lower layer, and erasing the top layer to blend and smooth. This worlds a thousand times better! Thank you.

  • Excellent! I'm glad you found it helpful ...!

    Rich

  • Nevermind. I figured it out.. I had to right click instead of left click.. thanks for the tutorial!

  • What setting did you have the brush on? when i use it, it just blurs it.

  • Glad I could help ... chuckle.

    Rich

  • You are most welcome.

Thanks for the nice comment ...

    Rich

  • Not only clear and informative, but entertaining to watch and hear it put so 'human'. Thanks

  • Well thank you very much!

    Rich

  • your techniques are fantastic, easy to see on the screen and you take your time without rushing through the tutorial unlike many other 'show-off's' on youtube using such fast techniques ....I have learned so much and want to say thank you for all these tutorials

  • Thanks!! Comments like this make it all worthwhile.

Now - really - don't you wish there was music playing all through the tutorial ;) ...

    Rich

  • nah...your voice is rather sexy :)

  • Chuckle - thanks (blush) ...

  • Great video! Thank you!

  • Great video, thanks so much....:-)) Carol

  • Oops - I sent you a thanks for subscribing message and you didn't subscribe - sorry.

And - your dogs are still beautiful ...!

    Rich

  • Sorry Rich, didnt realise I hadnt subscribed LOL, but I have now anyway and thankyou once again for taking the time to upload these fantastic tuts :))

  • Hi Carol - you I wasn't fishing for a subscription ...

Thanks for subscribing and your fabulous comment. The next Paint Shop page will feature one of my mini Bull Terriers, Libby and I hope to get my act in gear to make a video as well ...

    Rich

  • why is everyone so mean. hes just trying to help.

  • Don't worry about it - I probably could have used an image with more flaws - as I said - it took a long time to get the video right and darn, it is going to stay the way it is...!

    Rich

  • Would just like to say thanks for this, Ive just tried techniques on a photo and couldn't believe the difference it made. Cheers Mick

  • That's great and thanks for letting me know ...

    Rich

  • The retouch which was apply on this woman is so unnecessary.

  • You are right! The purpose was to show how to do it rather than try to make her more attractive.

    Good eye ...

    Rich

  • no mate im human your a cock head it made no difference it just looked different to you because you had brank a couple of bottles of whiskey and smoked some crack.

  • It's easier to use a Neat Image Plug-in.. It saves you all this work and takes off more than halve the time needed to do this...

  • That may be true, however ...

The intent of the technique is to learn how easy it is to achieve a great result using a graphics tablet with Paint Shop rather than letting some plug-in do the work automatically.

For me the results one can create sweating and fussing with an image is more satisfying than an automatic process. The journey to an end result is often far more enjoyable than the end result.

That's just my point of view and thanks for the input. I do appreciate it!

    Rich

  • This video helped me a lot, thanks :) One thing, when saving the image, do you have to merge all the layers?

  • I'm glad the video helped.

If you save as a jpeg then all of the layers will be flattened.

If you save with the PSP file format (.psp) or the Photoshop format (.psd) they layers will remain and the file will be very large.

The advantage of the .psp and .psd is that you can close the file and open it again with all of the layers intact and those layers can be modified.

Saving as jpeg, closing and opening again means you can't go back to change any adjustments you have done ...

    Rich

  • i can't see the difference ._________.

  • Well - it is very subtle and that is what will happen with an image like the one I used.

    Rich

  • WICKED awesome!!! thanks you were very clear and easy to understand!!!!

  • Thank you very much - that was my goal ...!

    Rich

  • darn good

  • Thanks ...!

    Rich

  • I have PSP version 7.04. I get almost to the end and then I can't seem to find the "Materials Palette" do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • The materials palette is just the one where you set the colors and PSP 7.04 absolutely has to have one.

They may have changed the name but it is there.

I don't have version 7.04 to try it out but you will find it ...

    Rich

  • It's not the same as in subsequent versions. You need the colour palette to be active (View menu, Toolbars, select the checkbox for "Colour Palette" . You can then select the foreground and background shades/colours by clicking the rectangular boxes underneath the word Styles on the colour palette. Indeed, if you right click on these boxes you'll see a quick list of Recent Colours. Black and white are always presented as options there.

  • Awesome, I got it now, thanks!! One more quickie - to go over the eyes, nose and mouth at the end, with the "brush tool" with the earlier version, do we use the tool called "color replacer"?

  • No, you just need to ensure that the foreground shade (the left rectangle) is black. That will then correspond with your left mouse button. Just use the ordinary "paint brush" tool. The only difference for you is that in preceding steps you will have had to have gone to the "Masks" menu, then "New", then "From Image"

  • Fabulous replies - thanks!

    Rich

  • So beautiful!

    Definitely easy to understand. :D

  • it looks exactly the same as before?

  • Maybe on your screen but in PSP there is a big change.

    Rich

  • try to skip from 0:15 to 5:50 and you will notice the changes

  • i have a picture and on it the picture has bags under the eyes how do i get rid of the bags ???????

  • Probably the best way is to use the dodge and burn technique - there is a video on it and a page on my site.

    the-graphics-tablet. com

    Rich

  • Thanks Man You Have Helped Me Alot If You Remember Me 31cona My Youtube Name Was Mate Haha :D

  • Glad it helped - I do remember you.

    The bags are gone??

    Rich

  • you sound like a aeroplane host on the speaker!...lol

  • Make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in an upright and locked position - keep you arms in the windows ...

    Gee - thanks ...

    Rich

  • Agreed! :) "If you look to your left...." :)

also great job with this tutorial!

  • Thanks! I made myself look better in my profile photos for dating websites! Since giving myself a "glamour" look, I am getting more responses from people and already met some people in person! They said I looked very photogenic!

Little do they know my secret! Thanks again!

  • Well that is absolutely great!! You go girl (ah - I think you are a girl) ...

    Good luck.

    Rich

  • I'm a guy! :) and still getting good comments on my profile photos! Thanks again!

  • Oops - so sorry about that (blushing in humiliation).

    Rich

  • Now you are making me blush - thanks for the comment and for the courage to share your love on your channel!

    Rich

  • i guess its supposed to be that way but her jaw looks like sum1 punched her and it got all swollen... just thought i'd point that out

  • She does have and interesting jawline, doesn't she?

Perhaps it is someones definition of beauty!

    Rich

  • this really helped i like how slow you went and you spoke clearly

    great job

  • Great - I take it you don't care for a high speed tutorial with music that has absolutely nothing to do with the tutorial blaring away.

    Good ...

    Rich

  • you are amazing!

  • Thank you man, you are so great... Irated 5 stars :)

  • Thanks for the nice comment and the rating. I really appreciate it!

i would really really really appreciate it!

    =)

  • I just uploaded a new page to my site on layers in PSP.

The last layer I add in the tutorial is about making eyes 'pop'.

Check out the page at the-graphics-tablet com and click on the Paint Shop Pro link.

That should do it for you.

Let me know if you need more than that ...!

    Rich

  • Thankx Much! your kewl for this!!!!

  • Glad you liked it!

    Rich

  • Thank u so much...I've been trying to learn that one but finding a clear tutorial on it been very difficult...I appreciate all of your help greatly :)

  • And darn - didn't you miss the music?

Thanks for the nice words ...

    Rich

  • i love your tutorials...can u post one on how from being fat getting skinny? I would love to learn that but haven't found a detailed tutorial like yours...I would greatly appreciated...Have a bless night!

  • I have thought about that one but have yet to do anything about it.

I will let you know when it is either on my site or the video is posted.

    Rich

  • just wanted to tell you that your tutorial is awesome better then I've ever seen! can you post more?

  • I will be posting more videos as soon as possible.

I have been involved in a major website re-build and it has taken a lot of time...

    Rich

  • ohhh that explains it lol..I'm such an airhead...Thank u for explaining it to me...Im going to give it a try once again :) i'll let u know the outcome...Thanks very much...Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Ain't no airheads around here! It's called learning a new skill!

Good luck and I would really like to know if that is the problem.

    Rich

  • Hello there, thank u for your awesome tutorial...I tried it out tonight but for some reason when i get to the part add mask from image it doesn't give me the psp air option just one option which it only says the word green...do u know why that's happening? please let me know i would greatly appreciated. :)

  • Hi - what is the name of your file you are working on? That will be the name you see there.

My file name is psp air - so don't confuse my file name with the description of a technique.

    Rich

  • hi ty for sharing this i don't know how to get rid of blemishes on skin without filters do you have a video on that ty : )

  • The Makeover tools do a good job with blemishes, especially the blemish remover.

    Rich

  • hey, awesome video, i thought it was helpful. but i have a huge problem, just wondered if maybe you can help me... my palettes don't show up anymore :( they just disappeared so i can't use a lot of stuff. maybe you know what to do..

  • oops - that is a problem, right?

To get the palettes you want go to View > Palettes and load the ones you want.

Is the palette selector missing from the top of the screen?

    Rich

  • yep that's major problem.

Thanks, but I already tried that out, with every palette, but I can't see any of them. Everything else, the tools etc., works fine. But since I don't have the palettes, I can't work with colors at all and I can't really work with layers either. I think I just have to re-install my Paint shop pro, but that would seriously suck :(

  • That is probably the answer - reinstall,

    Good luck!

    Rich

  • Hey man umm.. ive seen a few of your vids. I'm thinking of getting painshop pro but I also want to make signatures can you make good signatures with painshop pro? I've tried out the tutorial of photoshop cs4 and it seems to do the job but I don't really want to spend so much money.

  • Paint Shop Pro is an excellent alternative to full Photoshop and you can surely make a good signature with it.

It will be easier to make the signature if you have a tablet - how the heck can you do a signature with a mouse...?

    Does that help?

    Rich

  • I really want to know how to make a layout or banner ive been trying to learn so bad, and ive been downloading like 1000 dif photo shops lol

  • It sounds like you want a page making program rather than a digital editing program although you can make banners and do some layouts with Photoshop.

If you want a bunch of pictures and some text then a Collage may right for you.

    Rich

  • DO YOU TAKE A VIDEO REQUEST

  • Perhaps - what is it you are wanting?

    Rich

  • awesome man, hanks for the vid

  • You are welcome and I'm glad you liked it ...!

    Rich

  • nice tutorial, too bad i dont have PSP. btw, you kinda sound like the Joker, haha. have a nice day

  • Thanks for the nice comment.

I do? That is the first time I have seen that comment.

Hmm - maybe I am the Joker!!

    Rich

  • You do sound like Joker! :)

    Thanks for tutorial!

  • thanks!! so much it help me a lot

  • I am pleased to hear that.

    Carry on and have fun!

    Rich

  • Thankyou for this tutorial. I much prefer PSP ro photoshop etc...

Im trying to learn to airbrish for some of my promotional pictures, im a magician but in some of my images you can really see my "Flaws".

Although not in my tricks :-)

    Divinity

  • Thanks for the comments. I like both programs and the most powerful one is Photoshop.

PSP has a lot of nice automated features and if you keep at it you will make the "flaws" disappear - poof.

I think I will have some fun prowling your channel ...

    Rich

  • I've been trying to find a good one. Your tutorials are VERY helpful. Thanks so much! :)

  • Thanks ...

    Rich

  • your video was the best help! make more please [=

  • I'm working at it - I am for sure ...

    Rich

  • Thank you. :) Make more video's for Paintshop Pro. Thank you

    x Alice

  • I am - soon ...

I just did a page for my site about channel mixer and curves last night and the video will follow shortly.

    Rich

  • ok, thanks

  • Hmmm, good video, but i can hear a bunch of "wind" on your mic. it seems like everyone blows on their microphone when they record.

  • I guess I'm just a windbag ...

I try to make the recording as clean as possible, however.

    Rich

  • nothing to do with the video, but how do you get to the brushes, i only got paint shop pro today and i am so confused on how to get to them, i think i have downloaded them right but yeah. thanks.

  • The brushes are part of the toolbar and I think it is on the left when you first start up PSP.

Select each one on the toolbar and read what the Learning Center has to say about it ...

Check out my site at the-graphics-tablet com

    Rich

  • thanks so much,

i didnt think how easy it was,

ive been looking for ages and you finally told me

    thanks,

great tutorial by the way :D

  • Good - I am glad the video helped ...

    Rich

  • Thank you so much! This is the first tutorial that I have been able to follow, and I don't even have a version of Corel PSP that is as updated as yours (I have version 10).

    Thanks!!!!!!!

  • I had that version of PSP and it was a real resource hog.

X2 is better and you know - an upgrade to the latest version is priced well through the Corel site!

    Rich

PS - by the way - I am pleased you found the tutorial helpful.

  • thanks so much! this tutorial was super easy to follow along with and I was able to do it the first time through. keep them coming :)

  • Excellent - it seems you are the perfect student!

    Rich

  • where can I find the brush tool where you used it to sharpen out the eyes nose and lips, also hair and fingers? I am still new to this. Please help :) thank you.

  • It is just the normal brush tool.

If you check out my site (the-graphics-tablet) on the Paint Shop Pro page it may help.

    Rich

  • That was amazing!

I've got Paint Shop Pro 7 (its a little dated!) and i can do most of this on that but when you come to the end using the paint tool to pop up the eyes, nose, hair ect i can't do that! The brush just comes up normal black like it does when you want to draw something so i couldn't finish my picture like you did. Grrr. Do you know what i'm doing wrong?

    Please help. Thanks.

    x

  • I presume you are talking about the Mask Layers, right? I don't know if they were available in PSP 7.

I don't have 7 so I cannot mess with it to see if there is a way to pop out the eyes and stuff.

You might consider upgrading your PSP to the current version. You can upgrade through Corel and it is less expensive than buying the latest version.

    Rich

  • Beautiful :D

  • Good!

    R

  • Which Paint Shop Pro do you use? =D

  • Hi Beth - I used PSP Pro Photo X2 for this video. I downloaded a trial version - sadly it has expired...

I suspect you can do pretty much the same thing with an earlier version of PSP.

If there is enough interest from You Tubers and on my site then I will buy the retail version and do more videos on PSP.

    Rich

  • You're welcome!

    Rich

  • Thank You!! =D
