The responsibility of the Branch family was to protect the head family with all of their life. When Neji's father found out that Hinata's father[His twin brother] was going to be killed, he got himself killed instead, since they look the same anyways... By the way, the seals on their foreheads, only the branch family has that so if they betray the head family, the head family could kill them easily with those seals. Okay, so I'm not sure about the overall story, but that's all I remember xP
