  • you dont need to grind the kno3 too fine, or grind it all all, its the purity you need to make sure is adequate - say 96% minimum. Just make rcandy via the cooking method, its easier and saves a lot of hassle, it also produces more thrust per unit volume because of a higher density.

  • Pretty cool

  • Friend....stick with Grant's.....you can easily re-crystallize the pure KNO3 from it, which will increase the punch of your r candy.

  • this is he most understandable video so far.

  • i cant watch part 2 why???

  • I have a question: When i try to make r candy, after cooking, i let it cool, but when cool, it still remains soft, not hard rock candy, and when I try to ignite it, it ignites for short periods instead of burning equaly. Sorry for my bad english, and thanks.

  • @Olao999 ... You use to much sugar!..... :S thats why :D.. and by the way

if you add a lil bit blackpowder it will be much easier to ignite ;D you can also use match heads

  • @thaGkillah Thanks!

  • If moneys can do it why did you know how to use fractional crystallization on the kno3?? i made, tested, and successfully launched my first core burning engine at the ripe old age of....7 ahahahah. I'm 21 now and my core burning engines dont use powdered sugar anymore but carbon black and powdered magnesium. And the rocket caseing is too large vs the motor. Sugar is a soft carbon and is very very low impulse (not much thrust) that rocket would never get off the pad : O

  • its a giant modle rocket that blows off the nose =/

u should put a explosive charge that does damage either pressure sensitive. or afet it uses up all its fuel like u have for the ejection for the nose atm

  • how did you bond the kitty litter plugs? would it help maintain stability if i were too very slightly angle the fins giving it a sort of rifleing effect.

  • you should have someone hold your cue card cuz you're taking too long to turn the page and read the rest of what you have to say.

  • GIANT DILDO!!! =D

  • Reupload the plans!

  • HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH I RARELY LAFF DURING YOUTUBIN =) THE TOY TRAIN SET HAHA

  • i made this in pvc and kinda made it different so it fits in a rocket launcher , it flys about a kilometer far

  • theres no part one or 3 fail

  • I used a Magic Bullet to blend and take care of them stupid pellets lol.. wouldnt make a milkshake but blended rocket fuel WELL!

  • "Portland to Salem", where do you live?

  • looks like a shaved off christmas tree

  • you got to lt me see the final outcome ,, I want to see this baby fly!!!!

  • Skylighter is way too expensive. You can buy KN03 on Ebay for $2.00 per lbs. For everything else rocket and pyro related I buy from Thunder Valley and discount pyro. Their prices are much lower than skylighter. Skylighter is a rip off! By the way, great video!

  • i think the fins will flutter

  • lowes has little granules not fine powder

  • I normally use gun powder I steal from my dads bullet shells and it works great, i just have to pack in twice as much as I would with black powder, but it works for me. Nice vid though all the same :)

  • lool the intro was pretty funny. other than that i liked the tips

  • i rate 1 star becaz u didnt fired

  • Look how thin it is! Did you force it on a diet? This thing will crack like that *snapping fingers*

  • Hmm...did you buy your nose cone or make it? I lost mine (chute and all) when things went awry in the sky. Don't have hobby shops where I live...is it possible to buy one? make it out of....?

  • i'm sure i cant be the first to mention this but technically the difference between a missile and a rocket is a missile has some form of guidance.

    great vid good luck!

  • thats right, diferents layers of compresed powder, but, dude, the fins looks, you know, give it some shape.

  • How long does the title need to be!? That sucked my rockets are awesome and do not involve rectangular fins

  • wtf, that diagram was a crapy bear mat doodle and it rilly wasent complicated at all. if its a cross section then there is no need for dashed lines. you are building a rocket, not a missile. you havent added or come up anything new, its all well established modle rocket desine. oh yea, and the diagram was poor... i also give two thumbs down...

  • What's that stick in the middle? I can't read what it says

  • how old are u man ???

  • shoot it off and tape it, i wanna see this puppy fly

  • why kitty litter

  • doesn't burn

  • a plug and a nozzle

  • Why dont you shoot a helicopter and run and hide :) Lol joking.

  • with the hole drilled into the top of the ejection chamber, wouldn't that go off too soon before all the fuel has been used?

  • dude hard you the smartest man alive lol how could you come up with this?

  • We cut down a foam cone shape from the arts & crafts store for a CHeap And Dirty nose cone. ;)

  • this would be a good tip for making a short film

  • sweet thank the lord that atleast 1 person on youtube lives in portland pretty sweet rocket too thanks for the tut and i may take advantage of the combo of that powder and sugar to make fireworks sounds fun!

  • You could make it have much more thrust if you fitted a nozzle to the engine with an expansion ratio of about 8:1.

  • i know how to make nosecones. any1 who wants to know send me a message

  • wat if the nose of the rocket is heavier than the rest? will it still go up?? im not lookign to make somthing that goes really high i just need it to go straight up

  • what i am going to do is

fill a bike tire tube with the propellent the rubber acts like a insulator

then wrap out side with paper mache

for the nozzel i will the carve wood to look like the inside of the nozzel

    then cast it in plaster

then sand the out side of the plaster to fit inside the tube

this i hope will make very light wieght rocket

  • plaster? i think its not a good idea..... its ligth, but it may melt, i think..... how about normal cement?

  • lol i bought 50 pounds of KNO3 for twenty bucks at my local garden store haha

  • dude u live in portland too? o add some red iron oxide to increase the burning rate of the Rcandy

  • the link dont work...

  • didnt work 4 me either

  • pure genious mate!!! pure genious! you cant make a better rocket engine!

  • make a chuate out of a plastic bag!!

  • chute :)

  • HAHA it was late

  • whats "kitty litter" thats used for the plug and what can you use in its place??

  • It's cat litter, you can buy it in supermarkets. It's made out of powdered clay. A better substitute is actually bentonite clay powder.

  • Okay, there's no part one. Fail.

  • Part 1 got removed due to "inappropriate content"...f youtube.

  • rofl xD

  • @DMarc85 i saw an add for counter terrorism on this LMFAO

  • @DMarc85 just re upload it but add a new begining

  • @DMarc85 then re-upload it

  • You can get KNO3 at fish and gardnaning stores it is used as a fertilizers(you can get a 25 pound bag for 50$ the name of the store is hidrotec i believe)

  • Comment removed

  • tale of someone who does not know what they are doing... those fins suck, and you can buy KN03 all day long on ebay.

  • use 2 1/2 PVC pipe so you can get a real nose cone!

  • how do you hammer in the kitty litter plugs in with the fuel in there without it exploding, it's been on my mind for ages or is it just not that volatile?

  • I have made some, It is actually sometimes hard to light. So no its not very prone to lighting when you don't want it to.

  • hi for my nose cone i take a road construction cone and i molded on a 4''copler to fit on my 6'and 4'' wide missile rocket that i make..

  • might not want to use blackpowder for eject chare, i sugest you use flash powder because your rocket is very tall and the flame willl have to travel all the way up your rocket and blow the nose cone off. pack the powder to tight inside the top of the pipe and your rockete will explode.

  • LT ane?

  • can u post another rocket description thingy or email it to me to my youtube account. Dont want to give email cause dont want to get spam from other people

  • This video feels more like a humoristic little tale of unusually seen stuff.

  • wanker!! nerds don't have "train sets".

oo, gee, what exactly did you achieve with this rocket, height, duration, payload?

    get a life loser

  • No launch?

  • I love how your intro is a full minute long (not)

  • you think thats powerful, just stick a G-80 in that thing, and take cover because that rocket looks like it wont beable to handle a G-80.

  • sorry...part 1 got removed due to "inappropriate content." Very dumb, I know.

  • LOL yet other videos have worse stuff..

youtube get ur act together :P

  • stupid stabilisators (wings)

    they must be shorter.

  • place a flare in the top so when it pops off u can see it floating back down

  • I LOVE NUMBERS AND FIGURES

  • skills

  • that's exactly my purpose of making sparkler stuffs. i don't make them to harm anything or anybody but the fucking cops make it sound like a crime. FUCKING LAWMAKERS!!!!

  • get a coffee grinder chop up. i got 10 lbs for 20 bucks

    ebay mang

  • man, you are so right... i gotta make one of these

  • ALSOME!!

  • dude just go to ebay i got a lb of potassium nitrate for like $4

  • when he says a p my sub makz a loud noize O_O

  • hey here's a good Idea, what about lauching it.... good idea no?

  • lol dude watch out i think ur on the CIA watchlist.

  • COOLMAN

  • Skylighter is AWESOME! BUT, be careful; if you buy several things from Skylighter that CAN be used to make other types of explosives or anything like that, they'll red-flag you and won't send you anything for a while, and maybe your online purchases will be watched by some government group. hahaha.

  • All I buy from skylighter is shell parts and fuse... none of the chemicals ; )

I dont buy chemicals period. All I have to buy is black powder.. no big deal. I rob stars from black box artillery shells. One case is $35 wholesale.. thats 12 boxes each with 6 shells that are color coded with a thread on top. I can use the stars the same size as they already are.. or remake them into larger stars. I can make special effects with other cheap 1.4g works or fish fuse.

  • i love the part at 27 - 29 "and it looks like it was stolen from an f-16"lol

  • Is it possible to fill part of the nosecone with ANFO or something, and create a warhead trigger?

  • what i found that works VERY WELL!!! for fins of a rocket are the thin flexible plastic yellow garage sale signs at home depot.they are tremenduosly strong and light weight. i use them for my rockets and i won the arizona model rocket contest in 07. they are awesome and only like 2 bucks for like a 1 foot by 1 foot sheet.

  • you rock man! Truly a pioneer

    Thanks for your efforts!!

  • lol true about the trains and stuff

  • i just bought 5lbs of kno3 from ebay for 20$

plus shipping....it comes in a fine powder and is 99.9% pure...i also bought a 50' roll of fireworks fuse for 6$. i love pcv sugar rockets.

  • its funny how a pyros workshop ends up looking like a bakery rather than a mad scientists lab, .lol, containers full of sugar amd corn starch next to the kno3 iron oxide and magnessium powder, coffie grinders cookie sheets wax paper and electric skillet next to the mason jars full of nitrocellulose laquer and acetone..lol..i love pyros

  • How would one make the kitty litter plug

  • you fill the bottom of the pvc pipe with kitty litter and then use a metal rod to pack it solid, AKA hammer the S out of it. Then you use a drill to make a nozzle. You gotta be careful when u drill because u might knock out too much of the litter. It's a good idea to make it like .5" to .75" thick.

  • is kitty liter a product or just cat shit?

  • "Kitty litter" is usually bentonite, and is used in cat litter boxes because it soaks up the stuff kitty leaves there. However, it also becomes very hard when it is compacted, and being a mineral, it also handles the heat of the exhaust gasses very well. Most small rocket motors commercially made use it as the nozzle.

  • thanks i tried it but had no luck so i have tried making a metal rocket with washer for the end. So far its still in the works

  • you can use an old coffey grinder to grind up the compound! i found one at goodwill for 2.50$ works great!

  • Dewd, you need to be AWARE! DO NOT grind both fuel and oxidizer in the same grinder. VERY DANGEROUS.

Doc says it will feel much better once the pain goes away.

  • use a plastic bag for the chute lol

  • how old do you have to be to buy salt petter

  • No age restriction. Its great.

  • cool thanks

  • yay. lets make bombs!

  • how old do you have to be to buy salt petter

  • well, older than you, you can't even spell!

  • that eject charge will probably explode simultaniasly as the fuel ignites:) but hey, live and learn,btw,kno3,i just bought 150kg for aprox. 230 dollar,in Norway tho

  • haha the parachute is so small

  • where is part 3 so i can see if it worked

  • you can disolve the grants stump remover in boiling water then let it cool. It crystallizes into a pure potassium nitrate. you then drain the water and let it dry on paper towels for a few days. You get an easily grindable substance, and i mean easily because you can grind it with your bare hands. It's what i had to do because i bought grants stump remover too.

  • This works

  • I got my stump remover its the same that he used the fine grain at wal-mart

  • "Stolen off an F-16" hah!

  • I would love to see someone launch a rocket and insted of a parachute fill with black powder or apan ap ETC.... lol

  • I was wondering if for my rockets if I could ues for my motor pvc pipe and the body old paper towl rolls

  • get a chunk of balsa wood sand and carve to the side you need and get back to wite trash

  • i love your videos! will it soon come a third video?

  • Thanks. Yeah I put the launch for this rocket up, its called 5' homemade rocket explodes. Also I'm working on another one too its the response to this video with the mostly white thumbnail.

  • you said you had a link to download what is it?

  • Run a Google on Jimmy Yawn and Richard Nakka.

    Both are sugar motor gurus.

  • this vid is great very informative

  • Assuming you luck out and get a good starting Kn ratio, this motor will be very progressive, and probably over-pressurize. Also, you need a delay train in your motor. You don't want the ejection charge to go off at motor burnout. Delay the ejjection chg several seconds.

Bad news is that, if your motor works, your airframe will shred. Very quickly. Too much fin span, not enough fin root. Contact me if U want 2 learn.

  • why dont you make some videos, master.

  • OK, smart ass. You don't want to learn. OK by me. I'm only a member of the NAR Level 3 Certification Committee. I'm only Launch Director for the largest, most respected TRA prefecture in the world. I only hold three research motor class world altitude records. What do you have? A blown up fincan, and a shredded airframe. Congratulations.

  • I don't post vids. I fly rockets. Search for AeroPac, Black Rock rockets, Snow Ranch, etc.

Search for "Dave's Q Leap 2." I made both those motors, and developed the staging system used. That little 14 pound package went over 14K on that flight. What have you done?

  • Ok, in case you haven't noticed, I can't tell any of that about you by your profile or unless you tell me somehow. SO, when you post tips, regardless of how inciteful they may be, you look like a jackass know it all. Apologies for wiseassness. A video might not be a bad idea either, just to back up your claims, this is the internet ya know.

  • OK, in case you haven't noticed, not everyone that watches vids on here is a 13 year old dumbass kid. Some of us are retired machinists, that like to spend their time accomplishing things. And sometimes, we like to share some of the knowledge that we have acquired over the years.

My first piece of advice is for you to get a long ass roll of speaker wire, and make an electrical ignition system. You want some distance between you and the motor at ignition.

  • There's my vid. The only one I have. My L3 cert from 3 years ago. Is this something like what you want to do?

Join the NAR or TRA. Get certified. Seriously. Go to a launch, burn one or two motors, but see a hundred or so flights. Come to Balls 17 next Sept at Black Rock, and watch us tickle the 100K waiver, staging a 48KNs P motor to a 17.5KNs minimum diameter N.

  • For sure. I'd love to do some stuff like that. How do you get certified? Thanks for the post on that video too. Nice flight.

  • Want to see a bad ass motor failure? This is why motor testing, and rocketry in general, should be done by qualified people, in remote locations. It's my motor, a 6 grain 98mm N2900Red. Should have burned for 5.5+ seconds, but suffered a bit of an anomaly at 3.5 seconds in. The liner gave up the ghost. Listen to the sound...

  • Now this damn thing won't let me put a link to another vid. Run a search for "JPS N2900 Engine Test #1"

We learn more from the failures than we do from the successes.

  • What Diameter is it?

    70 mm?

looks abit like a Hydra 70mm rocket :-)

  • awesome rocket :D

unfortunatly for me i can't get kno3 in denmark... i have tried fertiliser and stump removers but they dont use salpeter for that in denmark

  • I've heard that if you know someone in the states or another country where you can have kno3, you can have them order it then send it to you discretely. Just an idear ;-) Thats really sucks tho.

  • Your "missile" stinks. And please, make some new fins, and read the standards!! DUMMY!!

  • Hey jackoff, how bout you watch my other videos and find out why you're retarded. I don't see you building rockets anyways so please, shut the fuck up :)

  • Monkeys do figure it out.... look at the terrorists., LOL good job man! What the hell do you do for a living out of curiosity?

  • haha thanks. I'm a college student, and a very bored one at that.

  • Dude, check eBay... I'm planning on buying a 35 lb bag of Potassium nitrate i found for under 50 bucks, THATS WITH SHIPPING!! don't bother with skylighter there are way overprices for many things(Except flash compounds).

  • Just a tip. If u live in Australia like me and u might think its hard to obtain Kno3... its not... honestly, go to a garden shop and ask for "Potassium Nitrate, Grade C". If they ask what its for, just say "Making rockets".. im not scared about what i do anymore because while ppl think its illegal, there is special rocket clubs for the stuff we like to do and its totaly legal.. heaps of proffesinals do it

  • Soo true :)... You might also look for spectracide stump remover, or potash, or strawberry fertilizer (I have heard has allot of kno3 in it). Lowe's hardware stores sell it for $5/lb (stump remover). I just say it's for a science project :)

  • Ya. But if you just said that you wanted it for hobby rockets, there is no reason at all they shouldnt sell it to you. I can understand if a differnt phrase was used such as " I want it to make bombs " that they wouldnt sell it to you

  • LOL. I guess some people have to learn the hard way. But seriosly man, why would you mix up fuel inside? You're lucky you didn't burn your house down.

  • look out for fertilizer grade potassium nitrate, its alot cheaper. over here in Australia I got a big 25kg bag for $30 which is peanuts.

  • i picked up a 25kilo bucket of potassium nitrate grade 'C' for $25 just 3 hours ago

  • thats it! :) it will last you forever, just keep it dry and you'll be sweet.

  • Just 15 mins ago... i nearly blew up my room and burnt down the house....i made a small batch of rocket fuel in my room.. a spark from that small batch jumped into my bigger batch of fuel and it went up..My desk..my ipod..my lamp..ruined... (Never play with fire inside the house kids!!!!!!)

  • LOL yeah right 15 min ago it burnt down your desk and your on your pc "right". Don't lie dipshit

  • he didnt say his pc was on his desk.

I keep all my cems separate in the shed for that reason, shit dude im glad your ok.

  • My pc isnt on my desk, but my Keyboard, speakers, monitor ect was.. the only major damage done to my comp set up was the 3 small spatter marks which burnt my screen and a small portion of my keyboard was almsost melted

  • but wouldn't the firemen and maby police be there if your damn desk went up in smoke :P i beleave that some stuf is "fucked" but i dont think that it was 15 min ago thats all i wanted to say.

  • In realitity it felt like 15 mins. I realised that once Kno3+sugar fuel is burning you cant stop it without water. All the fuel that went up was in a ceramic or clay type container thing which ended up cracking and half of it fell off my table which made all the fuel spill over my table which is how my table got burned

  • Im not lying...My ipod is fucked because it was near the extreme heat, My lamp was right over the fuel and was insinerated (Melted).. my desk has massive burn marks all over the table about 1mm deep, why the fuck would i lie?

  • Further more... did i say "Burnt down my desk" ? no.. i said "Its ruined"... im going to put ducktape all around my table to cover the burn marks

  • Quote:"i nearly blew up my room and burnt down the house....i made a small batch of rocket fuel in my room.. a spark from that small batch jumped into my bigger batch of fuel and it went up." :P i think it might be posible but highly unlikely and there are so many comments that look like this that i thought that u where another dude making "shit" comments. :P

  • Please, let me get this straight. You combined a high carbon content powder with an oxidizer, set a large, open container of it on your desk, then took a chunk out and ignited it, while seated at that same desk. A spark unexpectedly "jumped" into the larger container of propellant, and the resulting fire almost destroyed your home.

OK. Just wanted to make sure I'm on the right page.

And people wonder why purchase of these ingredients is restricted. Good grief.

  • hey man.. howd u prepare the fuel?.. u made r candy? where would the spark come from

  • It was a dry mix of Sugar and KNo3.. had a bowl of it and i took like 1 gram about 1 foot away from it and tested it.. a spark from the test jumped into the bowl and ~poof~

  • oo man.. that sucks.

  • Dude on thanksgiving, I was cooking up like 100g or smoke bombs in my garage with steel powder and the stupid stuff went off in the tin can, burned my hand pretty good and filled my whole garage with somke, it was SWEET!

  • Lol.. i made my FIRST batch of R candy 2 days ago.. i put some of it in a really light alluminium tube (I had to crush it up and compact it in because it was rock solid.. i dont know if there is another special way to do it).. the tube was about 1.5cm x 8cm .. it had a 5mm nozzel. This fuel burned so fast my rocket just blew up.. it was amazing.. it was like ...

~pshhh..BANG!~ .. im very proud since its my first rocket fuel

  • Haha, kick ass dude. Just like mine. So how did you construct the engine casing? Weld it?

  • Ok so I bought an 11lb bag on kno3 the other day and fabricated a packing rod for my engine. Its coming along.

  • when are you gonna launch that rocket?

    I wanna see it

    I´m a rocketholic

    i wanna see it flying

  • I'm not sure. Prolly not for a while. I've been too busy to work on it. Lame, I know. I'll try to do it soon yall.

  • use a blender or a coffea grinder

  • I also have a video on how to pufify stump remover and turn it into 99% potassium nitrate, you might want to watch it.
