I first heard this song on the show "Homicide: Life on the Street." It was the perfect song for the late-night raid scene. I had been a Fixx fan since I was in high school, but I never heard this song because I didn't own this album. It was an amazing discovery when the next day I found this on ITunes...
if this was from spring break on mtv then it was probably filmed in Daytona Beach back then...yeah this song is not even on their greatest hits cd (?) GREAT SONG/ GREAT BAND!
I bet the people in the audience could not believe how great these guys sounded, an how much this song actually rocks...I agree with caml06...his voice sounds incredible live...miss those 80's!!!
I LOVE The Fixx. Music from a time when music still had mystery and magic to it. The Fixx sang songs that told me of things I hadn't imagined until then. I used to lie back and drift off in daydreams while this music played. Visions of space travel and mystical encounters driving my youthful fantasies. If only I had had the Millenium Falcon with a tape deck in it...!!!
I love all their albums, a true Fixx fan. For some reason Calm Animals is their most consistent AND mY PERSONAL fAVORITE WITH "rEACH THE bEACH" AND "pHANTOMS" A CLOSE SECOND. i EVEN lIKED " INK". iTS REALLY TOO CLOSE TO CALL BECAUSE rEACH tHE bEACH CARRIED ME THROUGH MY TEENS. dID i MENTION i`M A 36 YEAR OLD AFRICAN-AMERICAN. iT`S NOT RELEVANT BUT GROWING UP IN MY HOUSE EVERYONE ELSE ACTED LIKE IT WAS.
I recorded this on VHS when it first aired on MTV in '89. The tape turned up missing after my girlfriend moved out. Thank you for posting this. It's great. First time I've seen it in 18 years.
Thanks so much for poisting this. It's my favorite Fixx song. They play it faster in the studio and with more punch, but it's still cool to hear the live version.
Not only is Jamie fabulous, but take a CLOSE loisten to Rupert's syhtesizer "playing". He uses a brilliant mix of 'sounds' and melody. He and Jamie play so beautifully together in the 'Woman on a Train' intro. Rupert Greenall is a GOD!
Fort Lauderdale Beach me thinks. I was at this show and observed Cy and the drummer down by the water before the show. They seemed to craft alot of vacations in Florida around playing outside venues there. Saw them 5 times in all in FL. Once at a water park at Sheridan and I-95. Dinky crowd - GREAT show.
It was The Fixx, Cheap Trick and Vixen. A triple bill. Colin Quinn was there as Remote Control was on tv then. I got my picture taken with him. I think Sandler was there as well, if my memory serves me correct.
what a great album Calm Animals is, a masterpiece !!! Cy Curnin, one of the best lyricists in rock...

I remember watching this back in 89! Can anyone tell me what a song is that they played at this consert?
If I can recall some of the lyrics was "comes around" I didn't catch the name of the song & I only heard it played on here. Thanks for any help!

Even the so-called 'lesser' cuts from their albums sound terrific when played live. What a great back catalog this band has!

was he always the guitarist for this band?

Jamie West-Oram always was and still is the guitarist for The Fixx. A great guitarist!!
cinecromancer 3 years ago
Yes... also did work for Tina Turner on the song You Better Be Good to Me. Look for The Video, The Fixx is in the video as band members..
West-Oram is a virtuoso on guitar, I would love to take pointers from him..
