Completely ruined anders for me, it's as if he is a new character. The voice actor in awakening was much more entertaining. Also, you meet him only a year into Kirkwall, that is quite farfetched, the blight and the mother were both killed in a space of a year, that is unrealistic. Bioware said the blight lasts between 1 and 2 years and awakening is 6 months after the blight. They rushed it for DA2. Why is anders gay? Recycling doesn't mean that something is the same as it was before. When you recycle a plastic bottle, it might be turned into a plastic cup or a plastic spoon. In the end, both products have the same core material, but they're still different products.
That's what they did to half the characters in DA2. They couldn't think of anything from scratch, so they took old characters and completely recycled them.

@FinalConflict99 No, this all happens after Origins AND Awakening. There's a year timeskip right after the beginning of DA:2 -- after you arrive in Kirkwall after fleeing the Blight. This explains why Anders abandoned the Grey Wardens as it said during the Awakening credits.

The love scene was lacking severely. And the fact that (POSSIBLE SPOILERS) he plays such a dark role in the main story that the devs made it impossible to have a happy ending with him. They took him and made him into an extremist and that makes the players suffer like crazy. I was appalled, but I had worked so hard to romance him that I couldn't bear to turn against him so I ended up starting a freaking war. This game as a whole was fun but it was also a disappointment. =( They ruined Anders.
I'm sorry. But this is not the Anders I know. For starters, Anders has lost his snickity and creative side and replaced it with angst and hate towards templars. They've over flashed his personal hate for the circle and made it completely consume him. Plus his voice actor changed so that when he DID try to be sarcastic (the few times it happens) he didn't even sound like he was joking. Plus that he takes things so seriously now. It's really not even the same character and that's a disappointment.

Anders is my favorite male so far. Not gonna spoil, but the way they connected him with someone else from Awakening was great. He's a badass freedom fighter, but with a vengeance now.
Anders was awesome on my Awakening game. I hope I can make him somewhat as cool in this. I made his a Spirt Healer/Arcane Warrior wearing the complete Stormchaser set. Gave him only Lightning Elemental Powers, and healing spells. He tore shit up.
@Slodogk Sadly, Ser Pounce-a-lot is not going to be in DA2. Anders had to give Pounce away to a friend when it almost got Anders killed during a Deep Roads Exhibition and the warden's claimed that it made him 'too soft.'
To all dragon age gamers I just want to point out in the advent of Dragon Age 2 release, lets not forget how great Origins was not in my very humble opinion how under rated the awakening dlc. If you replay Awakening you will realize that its the zenith of your character build and see the maximum potential of your character build. I for one played all the classes and races and in my 5th replay I finally went Rouge.

In Dragon Age 2 Anders becomes the host of the spirit Justice from Awakening and due to his anger to the Circle of Magi warps Justice into a demon of Vengeance. Thus making him a hell lot AWESOMER .The only thing missing is the ability to turn him into A FLAMING SKULL DEMON!!!

Reading the comments here I am SO glad that Bioware did not just do the easy thing, which, by the way, would've been exactly what people are demanding here - blatant fanservice by having the same old Anders from Awakening.
Guess what? People change over time...and sometimes, they don't change for the better, even if their heart remains in the right place. As for lack of his comedy, Isabella and Varric took over those roles just fine in DA2 for me.

"The easy thing"? The easy thing was to make Anders/Justice a companion no matter WHAT their fate was in Dragon Age: Awakening! Really, all this talk about "choice and consequence" and then we find out it doesn't matter, because Bioware decided to bring them in even no matter what, and what's even WORSE, is that Anders confirms that his death won't change anything, since Justice will live on! And since Justice and Anders are one being...

As for bioware doing the 'easy thing' the entire game is a rush job combined with poorly judged decisions, If anything the relentless sloppyness of this game is doing the easy thing.

I think it's amusing that you believe Bioware's goal was to convey personal growth in Anders. Changing characters to demonstrate years passed and personal growth is hardly Bioware's concern.
I mean, just look at Isabela. She was a pale, redheaded pirate in DA:O and now she's a dark-skinned, black-haired ethnic girl in DA2.
Bioware obviously likes to recycle characters. Don't be so blind.

So doing a slight retcon in skin color and upgrading a character, that previously had next to no background and a very surface personality, to a genuinely amusing person that has holds her own loyalties, is suddenly recycling? Really?
Recycling a character is one thing. Retconning to add depth to them is another. Or are you genuinely going to tell me DA:O's Isabella was exactly the same as in DA2 now?

Recycling doesn't mean that something is the same as it was before. When you recycle a plastic bottle, it might be turned into a plastic cup or a plastic spoon. In the end, both products have the same core material, but they're still different products.
That's what they did to half the characters in DA2. They couldn't think of anything from scratch, so they took old characters and completely recycled them.
And lol @ your reasons for her being "deep."

@FinalConflict99 No, this all happens after Origins AND Awakening. There's a year timeskip right after the beginning of DA:2 -- after you arrive in Kirkwall after fleeing the Blight. This explains why Anders abandoned the Grey Wardens as it said during the Awakening credits.

The love scene was lacking severely. And the fact that (POSSIBLE SPOILERS) he plays such a dark role in the main story that the devs made it impossible to have a happy ending with him. They took him and made him into an extremist and that makes the players suffer like crazy. I was appalled, but I had worked so hard to romance him that I couldn't bear to turn against him so I ended up starting a freaking war. This game as a whole was fun but it was also a disappointment. =( They ruined Anders.

I'm sorry. But this is not the Anders I know. For starters, Anders has lost his snickity and creative side and replaced it with angst and hate towards templars. They've over flashed his personal hate for the circle and made it completely consume him. Plus his voice actor changed so that when he DID try to be sarcastic (the few times it happens) he didn't even sound like he was joking. Plus that he takes things so seriously now. It's really not even the same character and that's a disappointment.

@PhoebeThePanda : it will most likely say in your guest-log that you companion will want to talk to you. other than that, they won't say anything (unless, you've come to romance options, then i believe the next time you talk to them, they happen, but i'm not one hundred percent sure)

Anders was awesome on my Awakening game. I hope I can make him somewhat as cool in this. I made his a Spirt Healer/Arcane Warrior wearing the complete Stormchaser set. Gave him only Lightning Elemental Powers, and healing spells. He tore shit up.

@Slodogk Sadly, Ser Pounce-a-lot is not going to be in DA2. Anders had to give Pounce away to a friend when it almost got Anders killed during a Deep Roads Exhibition and the warden's claimed that it made him 'too soft.'
That made me as mad as hell.

To all dragon age gamers I just want to point out in the advent of Dragon Age 2 release, lets not forget how great Origins was not in my very humble opinion how under rated the awakening dlc. If you replay Awakening you will realize that its the zenith of your character build and see the maximum potential of your character build. I for one played all the classes and races and in my 5th replay I finally went Rouge.

In Dragon Age 2 Anders becomes the host of the spirit Justice from Awakening and due to his anger to the Circle of Magi warps Justice into a demon of Vengeance. Thus making him a hell lot AWESOMER .The only thing missing is the ability to turn him into A FLAMING SKULL DEMON!!!
