They say OP Restrepo was a 15 man post, yet I've talked to about 200 or so service members that said they were there. So I'm guessing Restrepo is now a FOB with a Pizza Hut and Nail Salon.
I like the documentary and I respect the opinions but I think that you are soldiers and you only lost one friend. What would a veteran of the second war world think of your fear or sadness? I I mean, for exemple in all operation you lost 12 soldiers, germany lost 1 army in Stalingrado. Or how many people died in Normandy?.That was fear and more terrible.
In 1977 Carl Sagan, the American astronomer and physicist, sent the Rhodope singer Valya Balkanska's performance of the song "Delyu Haitutin" as a message to space. Each of the two space stations - "Voyager I" and "Voyager II", had a gold-plated gramophone record, containing the voices, whispers, songs an music pieces of our planet.
i know this is irrelevant but the guy that talks at 2:31 gets on my nerves !! its like he cant stop smirking/smiling !! i mean it happens throughout the entire movie, he'll sit and talk about how bad something is and the entire time he's talking about it he has that same damn smirk on his face almost like he wants to giggle or something !! i know hes not laughing at the situation, thats not what im insinuating but its like he cant be serious or something !!

@xdustinpattonx i think it is just because he is so uncomfortable and he does not know how to deal with the thoughts and emotions yet. keep in mind, they filmed the interviews almost right when they got back to their base in italy so they are just beginning to process all that happened to them.
@xdustinpattonx i think you really misread that as a "smirk". it is a thoroughly pained expression. he is "smiling" to keep his emotions in check. it's heart wrenching.
@xdustinpattonx Maybe someone is a happy person that he is alive. Maybe you don't know him. I know it kind of messed with me too, but laughing and trying not to be sad will keep the interview going. You can tell he wants to cry, but as a man you forget how to cry with emotion, you just let tears slide down your cheek and try to play it off. Laughing or happiness can be something used to hide and shield your emotions, if you didn't know that I am sorry. I doubt he is trying to laugh at the deaths
What is the big deal with this movie? I watched it and all I saw was Murder Inc. at work. Yes it's sad when young people are killed, but don't these young kid know that the war they are fightiing are nothing but resource wars?
The people who like this movie should watch "Hearts and Minds". That was another war of lies that killed millions, brought to the youth of America by the same bunch of lying scum bags in Washington.
hmm. really tough guys. respect. but honestly, how do they plan to go back into the civilian life. especially now, when obama said he might not have enough money to pay social security checks starting this august...
Monkey-boy Obama thought his troops surge would win the day but it is turning into a disaster. The Afghanistan War is over. Osama is dead. Bring the troops home. Now.
opened my eyes to what goes on for our troops who are deployed and now i have a better understanding on why it is so important to help them when they return home.
our government doesn't do enough for these brave men and women who risk their own lives for the great country we call our home.
his video makes me see some of the hardships our troops over there feel. The guy who cant sleep must have serious nightmares if four or fve pills wont help
This really makes you think about what the troops are like in real life not just in a movie. It shows that they are just people doing a job which not many ppl can do. Anyone who doesn't appreciate them is dumb.
Why are people so shocked or surprised when they see the real life of a soldier? You get paid to go to war. For many people being a soldier is just a profession. Yeah, a deadly one but still. You chose to enter the army, no one forced you, Maybe due to economic reasons but nevertheless. The end was kinda crappy. 50 American soldiers have died in that valley. I wonder how many are the Afghani civilians that have been killed during that time.
@50sorrowC I guess you're suggesting those civilian deaths are caused all by US forces? Do you know how many civilians are killed regularly by Taliban forces because of their random IED placements on roads and tracks used by innocent people? Not too mention the brutal treatment those same civilians get from Taliban, beheading and public shooting if they are seen to help allies. Why do people like you support them?? If you're American you should be ashamed.
@Riyun72 No, I'm not American and no I don't suggest that they are all caused by US forces. I meant that the movie throws some light only on the soldiers side. I would like to know more about the talibans mistreating the locals and the complex kinship relations which was only briefly mentioned in one sentence. I wrote a paper about Afghanistan at Uni and I hoped this movie to present at least some analysis of the situation there, rather than follow soldiers in their daily activities.
How the hell do you suggest they do that? "I would like to know more about the talibans mistreating the locals"
Yeah, you would LIKE too, but what do you want them to do? Set up a tripod and wait for shit to happen? Do you believe any civilian OR insurgent would sit down for an interview or something?
juan restrepo was one of my best friends here in pembroke pines,fl. when we heard what happened we were devistated. i am so happy they made this documentary so we can undersatnd what our friends and family go through and i can see the amazing men who served with juan restrepo
@MrBassmental i miss juan too. so many good memories with that kid. not a day goes by when i don't think about him or his family. his daughter will never have the honor of meeting her father who was an amazing human being. my prayers go to him and his family, last time i saw his mother and brother was when the movie premiered here in miami. i am sorry to all of those who have lost loved ones in this war, but remember they will never be forgotten and i pray for every last soldier.
Fell in love with this Documentary, shows exactly what my brothers and sisters in arms go through, we're all in this together lets try to make it out together too.
@MetalBback No. But they have sense enough to help educate people about how it actually is so they can leave their incorrect and politically charged biases behind and see war for what it really is. That's right. War isn't always as the makeup covered news reporters in their cute little suits say it is.
I was lucky enough to find restrepo on Netflix and all I can say is omg the death, destruction is un parallel to anything out there, only Vietnam vets can understand what those men went througho
Restrepo makes The Hurt Locker, Green Zone, Lions for Lambs, or any other movie about Afghan/Iraq war look like an episode from Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers .
Why did not you ashamed to use Bulgarian Song is Released Delyo rebel ... "with its melody to your soldiers ... Do you know how the Bulgarian people suffered while he was under Ottoman rule ... I respect your soldiers because I am a graduate of military school, but they are the puppets used by your army which plays the role of world policeman.
I just read his book WAR. it was phenominal i would recomend it to anyone who liked the film it goes right along with this film. I can't wait to see this film.
I wonder if after these engagements they patrol into the areas from which the attacks came. The reason would be that if you patrol the area and you don't the bodies and wounded then you didnt hit them. I have not heard much about the numbers of enemy killed. So I wonder if all this ordinance is actually doing anything.
what the hell...this video is about a documentary about soldiers surviving in the Korengal valley, why are there all sorts of comments bursting with 9/11 conspiracy crap? what does 9/11 have to do with this video? I'm sick of all the trollin on youtube!
But seriously.... people are depressed with their own lives, so to make themselves feel better they try to belittle other people.
As long as the anonymous factor is still there, as long as you can hide behind your computer screen without showing your face/ true intentions, trolling will always be there.
I don't have anything against America but the writing is in black and white MEN ARE DYING before their time! You're allies are dying as well. You're dragging everyone down with you! You have done the best you could, it's ok to step back and say WE'RE DONE HERE!! I know it's easier said than done b/c you're far into it & you can't back down now b/c you're too proud! But is this war worth losing lives for?! I'd like to c the politicians trade places with these men a & c what happens
@inyomawth If any country doesn't want to take part in the war they don't have to. Blame your countries voters, not the US. I live in Canada. Regretfully it seems the public has had enough of the war in Afghanistan and is forcing the military to withdraw, only leaving a training force. The politicians are elected and the soldiers are volunteers.
That’s right, I said wacko. ”look at your political system” owe you mean the federal system do you know how much state government (3 of them) cooperation you would need and for that matter county and city to why would they cooperate
The people of Afghanistan aren't all the same. Some like the ISAF presence others do not but since the majority of combatants against the ISAF are not natives of Afghanistan, it's a logical assumption that the Afghans see the ISAF is probably beneficial to their country.
Just another repeat mistake, have people forgotten Vietnam? and still till today I won't believe the lie about goat herders orchestrating a perfect tactical strike by the name of 9/11. The people of the US and the world were trick to fight this on-winnable war, and to further the course and gain by the political and military machine. Unless you totally wipe out the population in Afghanistan you will never conquer the Taliban, just a waste of life's and resources, when will we ever learn?
@benzie13 don't get me wrong I have respect for the young people that go to these distant countries to do what they think is the correct thing to do. But who sends our young people there? politicians and I would like for some one to point out a honest politician that does what we pay them for, there is none, they all lie, and misguide us tax payers. I will make a prediction! the US ans its coalition forces will pull out of Afghanistan in time, and it was all for nothing.
@M109RDOWNUNDER I totally agree. The soldier on the ground pays the price for the politicians idiocy. The Soviets couldn't win that war. Now we try. Waste of time, money and lives.
@benzie13 The people of Afghanistan see us as invaders, you will never get them to see our way of life, their society has been around longer than ours, and is enforced by their religious views,c an you blame the Taliban? what would you do if some foreign force invaded your country, I know I would fight till my last breath. OUR REAL ENEMY IS THE LYING POLITICIAN WE PAY FOR! bring our young people home, defend our borders, patrol our streets, there is enough evil and crime on our own shores.
@badgerattoadhall as stated earlier, I won't believe the lie about goat herders orchestrating a perfect tactical strike by the name of 9/11. 9/11 was an inside job to start a political war.
@M109RDOWNUNDER god damn it they werent goat hearders who Planned and carried out the attacks. they were educated working class/middle class/ wealthy persons. There is nothing and I mean nothing of value in A-stan you tinfoil hat wacko
@badgerattoadhall wacko? is that is good as you can do, name calling, 9/11 was done by the US government, have a look at you political system, it is the course of why the US is going the way it is going, and don't tell me you believe politician's are in place for the good of the tax payers they are there to control and manipulate for their own gains, Afghanistan is a waste of young people's life's, bring them home.
@M109RDOWNUNDER Here, here!! Well said! 9/11 was unfortunate okay, my thoughts to the families & friends! I think we all should prepare ourselves for the Governments (linked to the US or allies) will come for our children in future, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews & their mates! Children born now or 10 yrs ago will be fighting this war in the next 10-20 yrs, they will feel obligated to honor their country b/c this is all they know... & we'll be the 1s funding it, it's a fucken shame!
@badgerattoadhall I don't mean to try encourage people, that's just how I feel. I am a parent and I feel for the families that have to go through this. Trust me I got a lot of respect for the troops out there but at the same time it's heart breaking to see the loss of life. I know their pride is important & they need to protect their country, but they are dying in a different country & being sent home in wooden coffins. I just wish this war would end & these men can all be sent home
@inyomawth Every soldier is a volunteer and if they weren't willing to risk death they wouldn't have joined the infantry and most want to fight and don't want to give up. Point being if you don't think your country should be in Afghanistan it should be because you don't think it is worth your tax dollars, not because you think you know best for the soldiers.
@badgerattoadhall wacko? is that is good as you can do, name calling, 9/11 was done by the US government, have a look at your political system, it is the course of why the US is going the way it is going, and don't tell me you believe politician's are in place for the good of the tax payers they are there to control and manipulate for their own gains, Afghanistan is a waste of young people's life's, bring them home.

@badgerattoadhall no matter what little boy! your ass belongs to the Chinese, no matter what you say you are sold off by your own government, no name calling will change that. You have no idea, and it is softcocks like you that has let the once great USA go down the tube, start learning Chinese, not long before they will collect the debt!
@M109RDOWNUNDER llittle boy? son i am a grown man & soft cocks like me who let the US go down the tube? son i am as about right wing as right wing can be, so that does not mean debt spending or much spending at all.
@M109RDOWNUNDER You are uninformed. If you knew anything about world politics and economy you would know China will never collect that debt. The worst they could do is bankrupt the US but they would never do that because they are heavily invested in the US dollar and without the US there would be no one to buy most of the shit China makes.
@lantrope. man you sound like a fuckin pussy whos still feeding off of their mothers saggy tits. fuck off if you don't have respect for these guys or myself bitch. ill be one of the few who will be serving my country and the iraqi civilians. man if you heard some of the stories that my buddies have told me you'll see things more clearly. so from now on shut the fuck up keep your shit to yourself and learn how to appreciate your freedom. fuckin shit i hope youre taliban motherfucker.
@xxcsyannaxx You have my respect and kudos. I am humbled knowing Men and women like yourself are out there putting your lives on the line every day so I can breathe freely. Know that the many far outweigh the few who would disrespect you Sir. Greetings from England.
I pray every day for these guys and gals in harms way. Whether you are for or against this war it's America's sons and daughters over there. Never forget they are over there by choice, not by force. They are fighting for what they believe in, and IMO, that is a powerful statement of their belief in this country and what it stands for. I have lost two friends in Afghanistan and pray each day that this conflict will end, but until it does we OWE these soldiers our staunchest support.
My friend danny is overthere. I pray for his safety. He is a strong Marine, but he is cried to me. It is hard and he hopes to make it out alive . Please pray.
@stephenterill this movie is not pointless and you really want to see the talibans side? blah blah blah in the name of islam. you can see that shit on youtube. i don't think they're acting at all, maybe you should see the movie first.
@merks91 pls read my post more carefully - i meant pointless in terms of the director to make a non-political movie about combat life in Afghanistan. For sure Im gonna watch that flick OOOOhHH RAahhhhhh!
If after this movie you still want to join the Army you're a psycho or a stupid kid.
Watching someone trying to get his brain back in his skull is not something one should want to experience.
Troops outhere have my full support and respect but not those stupid kids who think war is like a video game and they'll come back as if nothing happened.
@latronpe Oh really, so if some kid were to watch this doc and still decide to join the U.S. Army knowing the risks; that makes him/her stupid? Who’s going to protect and defend the United States of America? I know it certainly isn’t going to be you, pussy!
And guess what buddy I just watched Restrepo last night and this 19yr old kid is still looking forward to joining the U.S. Marine Corps. Call me Fucking Crazy but I want to get sent to an active warzone and do E.O.D.
Damn man, I'm not even american, why would go there to die ? I not responsible of the 9/11. And you ain't proctecting shit by going over there. You even make the situation worst. ISAF isn't fighting a regular army their fighting extremists. You can't beat those guys, you'll kill one them there will be 10 others joining them. Did the death of Hitler ended Nazism ? No. We'll we ever won this war ? No. The quicker we get outta there, the safer the western world will be.
See, saying that makes you sound very weak and I don’t think you understand but my country was attacked. I’m not about to give in like the French and let the enemy walk all over me. Obviously you’re not aware but the U.S. military and its allies have killed many high ranking Al-Qaeda operatives as well as thousands of their extremist followers.
@latronpe It doesn’t matter that more radicals will replace the ones that have been killed, as soldiers will do the same, we cannot give into the radicals otherwise they win. There will always be good and evil on this planet and in result there will always be war. Not one century in history has gone by without their being a war.

I wonder if after these engagements they patrol into the areas from which the attacks came. The reason would be that if you patrol the area and you don't the bodies and wounded then you didnt hit them. I have not heard much about the numbers of enemy killed. So I wonder if all this ordinance is actually doing anything.

@thomasbeaver1 attacks they deal with while at op restrepo are pretty much confirmed due to the high powered optics set up near the nests

I'd like to c the politicians trade places with these men a & c what happens
inyomawth 1 year ago
@inyomawth If any country doesn't want to take part in the war they don't have to. Blame your countries voters, not the US. I live in Canada. Regretfully it seems the public has had enough of the war in Afghanistan and is forcing the military to withdraw, only leaving a training force. The politicians are elected and the soldiers are volunteers.

That’s right, I said wacko. ”look at your political system” owe you mean the federal system do you know how much state government (3 of them) cooperation you would need and for that matter county and city to why would they cooperate

The people of Afghanistan aren't all the same. Some like the ISAF presence others do not but since the majority of combatants against the ISAF are not natives of Afghanistan, it's a logical assumption that the Afghans see the ISAF is probably beneficial to their country.
oeyesea 1 year ago
Just another repeat mistake, have people forgotten Vietnam? and still till today I won't believe the lie about goat herders orchestrating a perfect tactical strike by the name of 9/11. The people of the US and the world were trick to fight this on-winnable war, and to further the course and gain by the political and military machine. Unless you totally wipe out the population in Afghanistan you will never conquer the Taliban, just a waste of life's and resources, when will we ever learn?

@M109RDOWNUNDER at least someone sees sense! thank you!
benzie13 1 year ago
@benzie13 don't get me wrong I have respect for the young people that go to these distant countries to do what they think is the correct thing to do. But who sends our young people there? politicians and I would like for some one to point out a honest politician that does what we pay them for, there is none, they all lie, and misguide us tax payers. I will make a prediction! the US ans its coalition forces will pull out of Afghanistan in time, and it was all for nothing.
M109RDOWNUNDER 1 year ago
@M109RDOWNUNDER I totally agree. The soldier on the ground pays the price for the politicians idiocy. The Soviets couldn't win that war. Now we try. Waste of time, money and lives.
benzie13 1 year ago
@benzie13 The people of Afghanistan see us as invaders, you will never get them to see our way of life, their society has been around longer than ours, and is enforced by their religious views,c an you blame the Taliban? what would you do if some foreign force invaded your country, I know I would fight till my last breath. OUR REAL ENEMY IS THE LYING POLITICIAN WE PAY FOR! bring our young people home, defend our borders, patrol our streets, there is enough evil and crime on our own shores.
M109RDOWNUNDER 1 year ago
@M109RDOWNUNDER The people who planned the 9/11 attacks were not illiterate goat herders nor were those who carried it out
badgerattoadhall 1 year ago
@badgerattoadhall as stated earlier, I won't believe the lie about goat herders orchestrating a perfect tactical strike by the name of 9/11. 9/11 was an inside job to start a political war.
M109RDOWNUNDER 1 year ago
@M109RDOWNUNDER god damn it they werent goat hearders who Planned and carried out the attacks. they were educated working class/middle class/ wealthy persons. There is nothing and I mean nothing of value in A-stan you tinfoil hat wacko
badgerattoadhall 1 year ago
@badgerattoadhall wacko? is that is good as you can do, name calling, 9/11 was done by the US government, have a look at you political system, it is the course of why the US is going the way it is going, and don't tell me you believe politician's are in place for the good of the tax payers they are there to control and manipulate for their own gains, Afghanistan is a waste of young people's life's, bring them home.
M109RDOWNUNDER 1 year ago
@M109RDOWNUNDER Here, here!! Well said! 9/11 was unfortunate okay, my thoughts to the families & friends! I think we all should prepare ourselves for the Governments (linked to the US or allies) will come for our children in future, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews & their mates! Children born now or 10 yrs ago will be fighting this war in the next 10-20 yrs, they will feel obligated to honor their country b/c this is all they know... & we'll be the 1s funding it, it's a fucken shame!

@inyomawth Low intensity conflicts last for a decade or two. Don’t encourage the dude we is a troofer
badgerattoadhall 1 year ago
@badgerattoadhall I don't mean to try encourage people, that's just how I feel. I am a parent and I feel for the families that have to go through this. Trust me I got a lot of respect for the troops out there but at the same time it's heart breaking to see the loss of life. I know their pride is important & they need to protect their country, but they are dying in a different country & being sent home in wooden coffins. I just wish this war would end & these men can all be sent home
inyomawth 1 year ago
@inyomawth Every soldier is a volunteer and if they weren't willing to risk death they wouldn't have joined the infantry and most want to fight and don't want to give up. Point being if you don't think your country should be in Afghanistan it should be because you don't think it is worth your tax dollars, not because you think you know best for the soldiers.
mrrobotica 1 year ago

M109RDOWNUNDER 1 year ago
@M109RDOWNUNDER llittle boy? son i am a grown man & soft cocks like me who let the US go down the tube? son i am as about right wing as right wing can be, so that does not mean debt spending or much spending at all.
How did you jump from troofing to PRC?
badgerattoadhall 1 year ago
@M109RDOWNUNDER You are uninformed. If you knew anything about world politics and economy you would know China will never collect that debt. The worst they could do is bankrupt the US but they would never do that because they are heavily invested in the US dollar and without the US there would be no one to buy most of the shit China makes.

No. The quicker we get outta there, the safer the western world will be.
latronpe 1 year ago
@latronpe Okay, my bad I assumed you were.
ExothermicVideos 1 year ago
@latronpe It doesn’t matter that more radicals will replace the ones that have been killed, as soldiers will do the same, we cannot give into the radicals otherwise they win. There will always be good and evil on this planet and in result there will always be war. Not one century in history has gone by without their being a war.
