  • Very cool Dinger! Congrats on the half dime, hole or no hole thats a great find!

  • Nice hunt!

  • Great hunt and finds :)

  • For some money was very hard to come by back then. Those people would often sew coins into their clothing so they wouldn't lose them. The square hole, as others pointed out, is from an old square nail. So the coin was that valuable to someone. It's a coin with a story and that makes it a very cool find. Nice find and a great hunt!

  • @OhioCoinHunter Dan, that is really interesting. I wonder, if we put a hole through a coin would it still be accepted by a merchant???

  • @dinger51 Based on my years as a coin collector I would say, unfortunately, a coin dealer would devalue the coin because of the hole.

  • @dinger51 @OhioCoinHunter telling about the coins is true, mostly I have found them hunting in CA while visiting my brother and only found them in the Chinese coins though...thanks for sharing...HH

  • @OhioCoinHunter

    Good info to know!

  • Nice finds! Congrats on that half dime, they are hard to find! Doesn't look to me like you could have put the hole in it, had to already be there.

  • Wow, that is awesome! Congratulations!!! Great find! 1854 that is an old, old coin!

  • @GrizzlyGroundswell

    Thanks Griz!

  • YES USED TO PUNCH THEM WITH CUT NAILS AND HAND THEM ON THERE NECKS FOR GOOD LUCK....NICE FINDS MATE....

  • Yeah,

That's an old square nail hole, not done by you. Great find, one guy said its common but he's wrong its not so common. Not many people find them, some do but not many... Congratulations and welcome to the Half Dime club !!

Keep @ it and HH !!

  • @MUDSWAT

Thanks Mud, it was pretty cool digging that up!!

  • Awesome Half Dime!! It looks like a the hole was caused by a square nail a long time ago!!! Very Cool!!!

    HH!!

  • @MNdigger

I now hate square nails for another reason.......Thanks for watching

  • No you didn't hurt it, it's from a square nail I think. Nice find!

  • Nice button & Beautiful half dime...No ...You did not damage it....Big Congrats..

  • @AmericanCoinHunting

Thanks Dan, after looking I thought there was no way I could have made that hole with my digger.

  • Nice finds Dinger! I found an 1841 Half dime last year so I know what you mean when you say you were shaking! I have seen lots of mid-19th century coins that have been holed with square nails (That's all they had back then) and that looks like one to me. Another awesome video from you, HH.

  • @Daddydigger1

Thanks Daddydigger, I now I hate those square nails for another reason. Your 1841looks great!!

  • Great video ! Super Awesome find That half dime , big Congrats and good luck on your next hunt.

  • @Yulelah

Thanks for watching Yuleah, One of my nicest coins found MDing

  • WOW! That was an awesome find, and unexpected coming after the wheaties. I am very happy for you. Old coins like that often had holes so that they could be kept on strings or sewn into clothes - not many pockets back then.

  • @Biofilmz

Very unexpected!!!! This was my first one and never would have imagined finding one. I am still looking for my first standing quarter.

  • please .not so great, yall guy sould act like it is rare common change .. a good find yea , COMMON FINE.
