@screamingmeanie The H&R handy guns were 410 and 28 gauge single shot break action pistols. With a smoothbore barrel about 8-10 inches. They were made in the 20s-30s Being a smoothbore shotgun. with a barrel under 18" They fell under the Firearms acts of 1934. They had to be registered then to be legal. If they weren't they could never become legal later. having an unregistered gun. is10 years and a 250,000 dollar fine.

@jrwel14 the handyguns are about the size of a Thompson Contender. But, that gun can shoot 410 because of the rifled barrel.

@screamingmeanie it's a shame they are illegal. Rifling a barrel of a shotgun doesn't give as good of a pattern as a smoothbore. another neat old short shotgun is the Ithica Auto and Burglar gun. Made years ago. It is a 20 ga double barrel with the total gun being about 14-16" a btter word for the handyguns would be handgun and not pistol.
