God I first watched this movie in 3rd grade and loved it so much that I have made it a tradition to watch it every year. Every time I watch it I discover something new. I'm 21 by the way.
This song was used in the movie because of the military beat. The words of the song have NOTHING to do with the movie. I suggest the the individual who recommended the philosophy course go to an English university.
I would disagree and ask you to consider kelley's situation of having busted in rank because of being a scapegoat for a bad tactical event. I think you could analogize the song to him saying, "to hell with your sense of justice, I've decided to take my own path and live with the outcome....I am burning my bridges and moving forward."
Damn I hit comment on my phone & the send button is RIGHT next to the dislike. My apologies to Mr. Curb for buying a small touch screen knowing I have fingers the size of Ball Park hotdogs!!!
@alisbuttoys What does a comment formulated to take on a tone of intelligent superiority similar to that of Dennis Miller or Frasier have in common with a trivial & juvenile name like butt toys? Hope that I read your name incorrectly.
@Allisbuttoys Well, on one level, they are using the military's equipment to their own end which directly flips the bird to their higher-ups. It's questionable what the real source of the money is (holocaust). They also tricked a bunch of guys into building a bridge and then Kelly's boys left them in the breeze. Take that all to the esoteric and you get to where maddogtannen1966 says go take a philosophy class and get back to him ;) This is one of my favorite movies, best served w/ friends.
@JetskiDarrell Agreed. With friends or without friends but I tend to enjoy it more with a friend who enjoys it just as much as me. I amplifies the movie even more.
One of my all time favourites. I lost all my hearing at 18 years old and never heard a thing for the next 20 years. Then I had a Cochlear Implant done and can now hear again albeit it has it's limitations. My point being, I wish all videos had that little pop up which shows me what they are singing (the lyrics) and makes it all a lot easier for me to understand the song. Worth thinking about. I wish you could do this for all my favourite songs?
@sjone1961 Thank you for the reply and yes they do have lyrics, but, not in time with the singing as seen here. Not that I have seen anyway, just a list of the words.

@blondyboy88 i think it refers to the concept breaking up with any friendship or relationship you built, like break up with everyone, terminate everything as burning bridges, referring as a connection

They should make a new movie, with similar settings, only to be in Iraq... about some hippy-like americans who screw war duties and killing and bush and america and go find lost treasure of Saddam. But, off course, todays american government would ban that film, because today is america MORE AND MORE BECOMING POLICE STATE! Greetings from US-bombed Serbia.
Call me crazy, but I love this song. I added it to my 1/16 scale RC tank so that I can play the song while I running the tank. I have six grand Children and they have memorized the song. They sing it all the time and drive my daughters crazy. When they visit, they ask to watch the movie. My father drove a Sherman during WWII. Thus my memories of my father.

Saw this in the theatre when I was 10. Most of the jokes went over my head, but still loved it.
Don Rickles say / I have found one, i have found one/'a land mine"/-- Kelly ask him-"What kind"- - Margolis-" THE KIND THAT BLOWS UP"-- "how the hell should i know what kind"--- LOL LOL LOL ITS just wow it always have given me the kicks----sorry the whole moovie is awsoma with an awsome cast!-- "HEY, HAVE SOME FAITH BABY"-- -- "IT'S JUNK its a PILE OF JUNK"-- "-- ALWAYS THOSE NEGATIVE VIBES<ALWAYS THOSE NEGATIVE VIBES MORIARTY"------ LOL LOL LOL
Oh man, I love this movie. Always got a huge kick out of the first part. Kelly and his partner setting in the Jeep surrounded by Germans waiting for the road to clear. LOL.
@Kneph1 ... my dad had this played at his funeral... he loved this movie... he was in WWII in the British Army... he said the song itself was very close to him... it brought a lot of tears to peoples eyes... great song!... cheers.
This is last movie I ever see with my gran mama. I was a teenager then.. we had just come to amerika. ne year later i bury my gran mama this forever in my heart.. I am now 55 years old. I have copy of this on dvd. when I get down or depress I watch this... thank you for posting this song.
Watched this last week on five usa turned music up full blast and my neighbour came banging on door,i thought i was going to get a mouthful but he wanted to know what channel it was on before rushing back in the house to watch lol
@paulallan1000 Loved this movie when it first came out and still do. Suppose to be a farce on the war. Besides we were in the height of the Vietnam conflict and many of understood how the gi's felt
in the late 70's just out of a lousy divorce , found booze and naughty ladies , all good things come to an end , but hey what beautiful memories ,this terrific song brings it all back .
You can literally see the sixties spinning out of control and the rest of society unravelling as you watch this film. Shame that freedom was experienced as a burning bridge.

@chefsean31
Three Kings (1999 - Clooney, Wallberg, Ice Cube) was based on the same premise (stealing gold at the end of a war [Kuwait]), but not even close to this masterpiece.
Saw this in the theatre when I was 10. Most of the jokes went over my head, but still loved it.

@paulallan1000 Loved this movie when it first came out and still do. Suppose to be a farce on the war. Besides we were in the height of the Vietnam conflict and many of understood how the gi's felt

You can literally see the sixties spinning out of control and the rest of society unravelling as you watch this film. Shame that freedom was experienced as a burning bridge.
