It's a Tetrio Sphinx Moth. Yes they're poisonous if you eat them. They get toxins absorbed into their skin from a certain tree. It won't hurt you if you just touch it. Just make sure you wash your hands good afterwards.
nope,not all.some have poisonous spike/hair thingies on their bodies.some poison you if you eat them(but who would want to eat them anyway?)some are completly harmless
They release poisons from hairs that pierce the skin like fiberglass, spikes that are really only a problem if you manage to get stabbed with it without crushing them, and some eat deadly plants and borrow the poisons, making the toxic.
i dont know whats velvet, but if it is what I think, its a "mandruva", there are some of those here in brazil, they wont kill you(not just by touching this way, i dont know if in some situation it kills =P)

I dear not to touch color animals, they are sign of poison. But many animals have adpoted to the strategy and faking it to avoid predators, too.
