Final Fantasy IX has such a beautiful plot, amazing well-thought personalities and characters, and a beautiful soundtrack that fits in perfectly with the emotions... Final Fantasy IX was the last FF where you just read instead of listen. And it will always be the best. Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2, or any of them can compare to this. <3

final fantasy 9 is my favorite of the series. 10 is almost there, but theres just something 9 that makes it special to me. from the music to going to bermecia and seeing freyas home destroyed to hearing about what will happen with vivi to just what kuja and zidane are. final fantasy 9 will always be my favorite in the series.

I've played all the final fantasy games there are (1-13, spinoffs, tactics series, even chocobo tales) and I can say without a doubt 9 is my favorite one. So much emotion, such a great story, this song almost brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I'm sure people can make comments as to why they think their FF is better, but to me, none have the emotional effect of 9, and that is why 9 is my favorite.

@TheSumisus Actually they have remastered releases on PS of 1-6 except for 3. One of those..i think 4 also comes with Chrono Trigger- Final Fantasy Chronicles. 1 and 2 are in origins and anthology is 5 and 6. 7 was originally released for the playstation as well as 8 and 9.

@eartianwerewolf I'm pretty sure that the re-releases of 1-6 on PS are kinda expensive. Hell, last time I saw 7 for sale it was something like £30. The solution? Ebay.

@jkh2004 Nope. I got most of the FFs from amazon.com for about 10-15 US dollars. The only one that was pricey was Final Fantasy 7 which cost me about 30-35 if I wanted the original case and manual.

FF 9 has only ever had it's position as my favourite FF threatened once - when I played FF 10 for the first time - I was so mad for it I was like, "it's the best everrrr!" but when I had been there and done it all, I summed up that FF 9 was still the best.

Haha, I wish I were that wise. Picked this up at my uncle's house (cousins were in college at the time) when I was 7, and my uncle let me have it. Became my favorite game easily of my PS1 collection. Yet when I picked up a PS3 I got obsessed with FPS's from 12-16 (didn't have a PS2). Just started recently playing everything I missed out on. Man, what a waste of five good years of gaming.

@Mrmcroller the Elder Scrolls series is quite a different breed of RPG than the FF series...or any JRPG for that matter - though I'm sure you've found that out already.

If you like JRPGs a lot though, I'd heartily recommend Persona 3: FES (Persona 4 too, but I've yet to play that one).

ff9 was my 1st ff game. and i fell in love with it. it is like a fairy tale but better. you explore, you fight, you love the characters and you are devastated when bad things happen. The music is perfect and so is the story line. thats why im so pissed at ff-13. it was shit. 12 was very good and so was 10. idk whats happening with the FF team but they need to go back to the basics.

This game is the last FF game that I played. I start with FF VIII, then FF X, FF XII, FFI, FFVI, FFXIII, and then FFIX. Too bad that I didn't play before, because this is the best FF game. I was sceptic when the game was released, but now I know that this is a jewel that I was losing.

My next FF is going to be the VI, many people say that game is great.
