he can't check back on the river, but after the check/shove, hansen is never bluffing there, and isn't shoving anything worse than what daniel has.. maybe 65?. but still, hansen checking on the river gained him a lot of value since if hansen bet riv, say 65k or whatever, negreanu is good enough to just call and not lose more.while the check-shove was for 230k total, (165k on top). so by checking, hansen gets paid for 165k more. on river, negreanu is more likely to call a bet than to check back.

I was in a similar hand with 55. Man with button raises to 12. Im BB and I call the extra 10 with 55. Flop is A 5 4. I check. He bets $25, a pot sized bet. I was putting him on an A at this point, so I call. After the turn the board is A 5 4 4. Again I check. The man bets $50. I call. The river makes is A 5 4 4 10. I checked for the third time. The man bets $115. In a 1/2 game, any bet over $100 without it being a re-raise is an enormous bet. I called and lost a $400 pot with 5 5 5 4 4.

I'm in doubt if this call was +EV, he knows Daniel was very strong and calls loose, so he would've never done that with air, so it was pretty obv. for value. He basically only holds {99, 55} after check/overshoving the river. {95, 65, 58} are 3 more possible combos but he most likely wouldn't check/overshoved with that because no worse hand would've called that.

It's tough to fold such strong hands on such an aggressive field, but a real pro like Ivey would've made it.
