  • I bought hundreds of S.A.W/ PWL 12" RECORDS from 1983-1988 so now there all crackly and old i want them FREE now on digital to back up the records!! i paid £2.99/£3.29 each for anyway PETER i dont buy or download modern stuff anyway so i aint ripping anyone bye bye gramps!!

  • mr waterman do you remember something you went out to buy an LP and your mate liked it and you made a cassette to give to him...well thats the same thing....BUT you do have to apy for live music but many cannot play live, in the old days there was only live music and you paid an admission to see and hear it

  • it's good that people get music for free, cos record producers always make a massively disproportionate amount compared to what the artists, and what they should get. so the record producers get less and so will the artists. i have more sympathy with the artists. i agree with corrupt that radio shoves crap in our ears and if you want to look at it this way, he gets his exposure for 'free' or cheaply.

  • @daveeeed Spoken like a man who knows fuck all.

  • There is so many things wrong with what he is saying i could write a book on it. You don't get asprin for free you have to pay for them... yeh... well i didn't even ask for Rick Astley but i got it rammed down my throat on the radio, I'd prefer to never have heard it. He should pay ME, for making me suffer his crappy music, I couldn't escape it. As for having to pay for it... has he forgot the radio cassette recorder - when he's constantly forcing his music on you via the radio?

  • What this guy sold us not "gave us" was a pile of shit, the only point being to make money. How he got away with it is a mystery, I just hope he dies a horrible death.

  • I know I've commented already, but I can't get over this. This guy (waterman) is so thick he is nearly retarded and i dont exactly have a high opinion of Northerners anyway, and he is so angry he hardly knows what he's saying while the guy interviewing is just smiling slightly, as if to say yeh right pete... lol

  • It's irrelevant what the consumer likes! that's irrelevant! This is comedy :)

  • @Corrupt5358 shows how out of touch he is

  • Comment removed

  • Pete Waterman is fucked with the internet haha! If people could preview his "music" nobody would buy it anyway.

That guy is so lucky to have made so much money when he is so shit, he should be counting his blessings.

BTW ANYTHING written by this fucking twat is worth nothing!

  • @Corrupt5358 Sorry you have no respect for dance music, dance pop, in the Motown and Philly tradition!

  • @healhurt I've no respect for shit!

  • the fucking music industry spent years ripping their customers off !!

I don't download music personally I prefer cds, actually I prefer LPs cause downloaded music and cds are basically shit.

I have an LP with a sticker on it for 6.99 pounds from 1980, my cds now are 9.99!!

Years and years of ripping their customers off ! Payback.

  • @donnyab haha yep :)

  • @donnyab I agree.... years ago the industry could have made CDs from metal, so they'd be virtually indestructable and last for decades and decades. But the greedy bastards wanted disposable plastic that corrupts, so they could sell the same thing over and over. They have made their own fetid bed of corruption, a-la Tracy Emin stylee, and the chickens have come home to roost for them. 'Continue to contaminate your bed, and you will drown in your own waste' - Music industry writ large..

  • pete waterman

  • Music is art and art should not be sold and should not to be treated as a tradeable commodity.

Pete Waterman is a very ignorant man and has a terrible taste in music.

  • The C4 guy sounds like a downloader himself lol.

  • The thing is that Pete never wrote any of the songs. All the work was done by Mike Stock with help on the mixes by Matt Aitken. Pete took most of the money and did the least work. Mike even said that 'with enough focus and hard work, anyone could've done what we did' You'd never hear Pete say that because he's too much of a selfish egomaniac. He was on radio last year he and said he wouldn't buy his daughter a laptop for her birthday because they were £1000, which was too expensive! WTF?????

  • YOU WILL NEVER STOP US PETE >: )

  • Seriously, as he stated here, he isn't really too pissed off about people stealing music. It's not actually about that. He just likes to run his loud mouth to get attention. He's the ultimate egotist/narcissist of the music biz. It bothers me that I sort of like the guy. Some great dance music came out on PWL in the late 80s - early 90s and Pete definitely had a spark and charisma about him back then but nowadays he's a just a relic of a era gone by.

  • @PrimeM92 PWL were fucking god awful. Jason, Sonia, Big Fun, Kylie long before so was any good. The fact that music isn't a billion dollar industry anymore is because the output is so bland and predictable and prats like Waterman have made it that way. Illegal downloading is irrelevant, the days he talks of when music was a billion dollar industry, people taped songs off the radio. Illegal downloading isn't much different

  • if record people PUT OUT THE product us consumers want..how many songs we want never get released or we cannot get access to....or they are only released in certain parts of the world..bonus track on a cd in one country, 2 different bonus tracks on same cd in another country, etc etc etc

  • lol why is he so mad? hes probably one of the richest producers on earth, can u see the wall in the back?? O.O

the music industry was sleeping and make partys when the internet got bigger and bigger. no its way too late to stop this. better luck next time u moneysuckers..

  • Why have music sales fallen?

Twenty years ago I'd pop into the local record shop and there'd be guaranteed to be something that I'd like, and like so much that I'd be prepared to shell out ten quid or so for it.

Most of today's acts are mediocre , propped up by Max Clifford types and slick videos. Before the internet you could tape the top 40, at better quality than MP3 and YouTube and pass the tape to your mates. Often, they'd like a song and buy an album or go to a gig

    MTV not MP3 broke music

  • he sounds like he could be a real cunt.

  • Where did YouTube come into it? He never mentioned YouTube. He has a fair point, if you make a product you expect to be paid. Didn't think the interview went well, Pete went off an a rant rather than put many valid points. The interviewer never put other points to Pete like how in days gone by people taped off the radio and it never seriously effected the industry. Also with various format changes people buy their own record collection many times over. And are CDs over priced? Crap interview.

  • First class Cunt

  • He somehow is right, but then please Mr.Waterman;have your cds wich I love again released everywhere so I can again find them in my record stores here in Belgium like in the 80's & 90's as since 1993 no P.Waterman,PWL records were released here!if internet didn't exist i wouldn't even know you still write & produce;even Josh's eurovision cds wasn't to be found here!

  • that fat bastard can eat my shit and then pay for it lol

  • thats why i quit writting music. I consider my stuff to Very good. And im a perfectionist. After the maths and considerations. I pay people to do my accounts and plumbing. Il be a slave and work for nothing. I think reason no new good music like the 80s has come out. cant be bothered.

  • @Nevawake No good music like the 80s? The 80s was nine times out of ten shite.

  • Love Pete Waterman. Amazing what of a cool life he's lived till now. Appears more like an Economics Professor than a Music Producer. But why shouldn't people in the music industry be smart? They can't all just talk rubbish? And I think he's right. The music industry just has bad luck these years that there's a free sustitute. Not beng from Britain I just wanna tell you that the music industry is one of your biggest industries and main export goods.

  • From 1987 to 1992 Pete made an mint. Far more money than you could spend in a lifetime. All those gold records at the back of him are from that time period. As much as I love PWL records after 1992 they went to shit and had no success(bar the great Steps). I dont get how the internet has affected his business. In fact if anything its helped. People going on youtube seeing old PWL clips are more likely to go on itunes and download PWL stuff. He has plently of money I dont see why he cares.

  • Well Pete perhaps if you record companies stopped signing shit acts and shit music then maybe people will start buying music again. The artists lose nothing, it's people like Pete and suits who are losing money. In fact the Pete and the suits get more percent of profits than the artists do. One of the reasons artists do gigs.

  • As long as Pete is not losing money lol

  • I don't think duffy cares about what money she's losing.

  • pete ,i bought all your records in the eighties and nineties and was ripped off by the record companies for years.........................?SONY UNIVERSAL EMI PWL ETC ETC

REDUCE THE PRICE of the cds and we wont need to illegally download

    regards from ireland

  • @SHAYDJ08 do you think that this 'Pete' man should be made aware that it will soon be time for the nettles to sting?

  • Whatever, Pete can't do sh!t. He doesn't stand to lose anything, he is just angry because he cant make profits. Moral value? None, not in the music industry. I guess that is our revenge on the music industry.

Its lose in profit. So give me a thumbs down, we are on the same team and we know which one of us is taking it up the ass by people like him. bwahahaha

  • Trains are cool. You can even mount guns on em :D

  • This guy opened our level crossing today. When asked why he was excited by trains, he said "they go chuff, and they go woo!"

Shows you what his brain is like.

  • when citizens and consumers are being screwed by every business going, every trade, every industry, every bank, they deserve to get their own back. i'm glad there's free downloads of songs and films. its a cyber revolution. the worm has turned. for a man who made millions out of consumers, waterman sounds like a bitter washed up old hack. he should be thankful for what he's got and stop being greedy and mercenary and whinging and throwing a hissy-fit.

  • I love this guy because he gave us so much great music. I was 15 in 1988 and I was dancing all year long to his music (produced together with Mike Stock and Matt Aitken).

But I think he is like Don Quijote now. Fighting against mills.

  • Pete is right - End of story. There is no argument here folks. Would anyone listen to a radio station playing unsigned and unheard of bands 24/7?

No. Of course not. Your Kylies, Robbies and Beyonces add value to your product, you're not giving them free advertising - you can't win that debate.

  • Pete is completely ignorant that he is making less money these days because his over produced crap isn't high on the charts any more

  • There is a serious difference between aspirin and a file. Isn't there?

  • 1. Pete Waterman is a businessman - of course he doesn't want to lose money.

    2. This would have been interesting if they'd had someone on who had any artistic integrity.

    3. Pete Waterman makes himself look like an idiot by not understanding the role of an interviewer

    4. Pete Waterman has been ripping off people for years by selling consistently shit and stupid songs.

  • It's funny that he mentions Duffy as an example, when Duffy already said she doesn't care about illegal downloads as she makes enough money anyway. I can't help thinking that this rant, and that's what it is a rant, is down to Pete's lack of recent success and wanting a platform to vent it on. He's a clever guy, but he's also talks a lot of shit at times.

  • Who ever bought his shitty music anyway? He's such a cock. I hate greedy twats like him.

  • hiya all a trekkie here as in a star trek fan mr pete waterman needs to chill out a little in the near future when the star trek space ship Enterprise heads out to the heavans to greet some aliens the first thing we are going to need is a person who knows how to download stuff from the planets surface to get to now what makes them tick so more the practice the downloaders get the better :) live long and prosper and don,t be a twit

  • Comment removed

  • did Pete stop to think , that just maybe his 80s records stopped selling and its not down loads stopping his sales (LOL)

  • I think Pete is right!

I am a producer myself and to maintain a 100.000 Euro's studio to be able to produce GOOD sounding music is not rewarding anymore. I made records in the 90's and back then it was a marginal business already.

If you like good music you'll have to pay for it, because it costs a LOT to make this kind of quality.

I am busy on quality tracks but am forced to do it in "spare time" like an amateur musician.

Sad to say, but pirate sites REALLY DO KILL good music production.

  • Then heres some advice for you, embraces technology.

  • embrace or ambraces explain yourself please.

  • embrace the technology, stop living in the 80s and stop having the 'GOOD OLD DAYS' mentality.

  • Comment removed

  • I embrace technology, new technology is great for promotion. BUT are you saying everyone may steal your personal belongings? And you are "stupid" to protest?

Then if you want me to produce "Cheapo" music using softwaresynthesizers and virtual mixing and not care how music sounds.... NO WAY, you will download CRAP "free music" in the future because no musician or studio dares to invest anymore in quality stuff.

Not my cup of tea, sorry...

My creative choice is none of your concern thank you.

  • ^^ This is what karelpostthuis just put in their comment before he removed it, I think there are quality LPs that use softwre, damn Nine Inch Nails for making a living, karel just accept it, times have moved on you silly old fool.

  • LOL

  • I think he makes a good point.

We all need to make money after all.

    Its just not fair.

  • I really wish this moron would either shut up & go play with his trainset or better still rant on aggressively until his heart gives out. I hate Waterman with a passion, a classic case of overachiever syndrome. He left school with no qualifications & can't even write music. The fact that people allow twats like this to achieve success is beyond me.

  • He's a dying breed, thankfully :)

  • I find it funny that he's going on about moral ground considering the money he's made as part of a business model that discounts morals at almost every level. The real reason he's being so stubbornly petulant is obvious when he says:

When I came into this industry, it was a billion pound industry just in the UK. It isnt anymore.

  • "It's irrelevant what cosumers like..."

Isn't that how the music business makes money? Producing things the consumer likes?

And why the hell is he moaning when he's losing fuck all money!

  • Ha, what a fucking jeb end.

If he wants to stop artists getting ripped off maybe he should stop and think about what labels do to artists - throttle as much money out of them as possible then discard them.

  • Krishna is loving this, you can see him smiling, someone is telling him in his earpiece to keep going as Waterman makes a twat of himself.

  • funny thing is were watching this for free, lol.
