  • It doesn't even have a flugelhorn like tone.

  • function over fashion any day.

  • looks rly cool, but i dont think it would play well to to the sharp corners of the air pathways

  • That looks soooooo naff. And sounds like a trumpet

  • Forget this junk and buy a Kanstul or an Inderbinen if you've got the cash and are prepared to wait a year.

  • Whats the tune?

  • Style over substance....it doesn't sing very well even with this dude blowing it!!!!

  • boy what a work of art that horn is, looks pretty expensive

  • You can make a Brass instrument with a right angle, most are made with a sharp 180 degree angle, it just makes it a BITCH to clean!

  • I dunno about them being carp. Sounds pretty good even if they did add a little reverb. Its all about how 'professional' the player is. This thing is so bad it would kick its own ass if it had one. :) Nice work of art.

  • Design before sound. Taylor trumpets and flugelhorns are a joke. Play tested a few in my time as a professional, and they are simply terrible. Do not buy one.

  • well thats your opinion... many will disagree..

  • Like anything else in life, different strokes for different folks.

  • Dude don't talk bad about Taylor trumpets. That's just your OPINION nothing else. There are some people in this world who would swear by Taylor, and i am one of them. In my OPINION Taylor makes the BEST trumpets in the world.

  • @threecircles agreed

  • That is a BAD horn. But I looked on the Taylor site and this design was not on there. Where did you get this flugel?

  • Umm...if he can play and make it sound like that, it's obviously not a bad horn. Also, look for pics & description of that horn design under the "trumpets" section--not flugels.

  • Dude, BAD as in cool. Sorry if my colloquialism dates me. :-) This is definitely a gorgeous horn to look at and a beautiful horn to hear.

Don't you just love human communication? :-)

  • @ChaplainAcosta Oooooh Ha ha ha

Wow, sorry! I think I've only RARELY heard "BAD" used in a positive manner before...if ever. Ha ha. No prob. Yes, human communication is a comical thing sometimes. lol

  • Sexy Flugelhorn...

  • Looks like the Flugelhorn that the Elephant sat on

  • Elegant looking, am waiting for similar styled Frenchhorns

  • looks like a bugel accident horn :-)

  • What means "ts pha pha pha pha hee" at 3:43?

  • Why is this guy wearing prison stripes?

  • He stole a rounded flugel horn and make it those right angles... 5 years of prison... Hard time.

  • He's the Pat Metheny of Flugelhorn

  • Jesus that's nice.!!! Yeah baby!

  • sweet so sweet send me a free flugel cheers.

  • looks like he;s playbacking

  • mmm, sweet. :)

  • Price it so it is available to someone outside the aristocracy, and I'll call ya...

  • Muy buena interpretación. Lo felicito. Very good.César Rivera Lima-Perú

  • Interesting flugelhorn. Yes it does sound on the trumpet side. I will stick with my flugelhorn which is a Couesnon flugelhorn made in 1969.One of the last made in the Couesnon factory before it burned down.

  • My brothet plays flugel. But his is much more rich and mellow.

    But this guy plays well

  • Have a look and listen to StarDust , Thomas Ganscher and his Schagerl Horn

  • beautiful - what was the song?

  • The Nearness of You

  • thats a cool finish what is it?

  • damn yo where can i get one?

  • This is too similar to a trumpet sound. If you take a flugel mouth piece and play that on a trumpet you essentially get the same sound as this video. Interesting idea though, I like the new age design too but it's gotta be much more mellow in sound then this. I'm happy with my Courtouis flugel, it does the job well. The player here, Davies Howes, does a nice job with the instrument.

  • i think the corners are just for show and maybe they are round inside you know what i mean ? and i dont like this sound buy a kanstul flugel from the signature series !!!

  • the corners have no tricks in them, they are as they seem. they are amazing instruments.

  • Wow, you could almost confuse that with a trumpet.

  • actually no, i have heard this flugel, and the same design, but on trumpet. and they sound much different.

  • Ahh- Alien mutation

  • Hate the sound. But its look cool.

  • Rubbisch, buy a van Laar or an Eclipse! You could kill someone with this flugel!

  • wow, looks like some real arguing going on here! he he...

i think it looks cool, do the sharp edges restrict the airflow? looks like it might be hard to blow...

anyway everyone knows 'eclipse' make the best flugel...! thought i'd add fuel to the fire! he he

  • and who makes most of there parts.?????

  • Ok, going back to my comment about the Yamaha kid, that was pretty rude, more of a criticizing comment than an opinion, so I apologize for that. Nevertheless, I am entitled to an opinion, so are you. If we don't like each other's opinions, then fine. Move our separate ways and let the world keep turning shall we?

  • All I did was simply offer my opinion (that's what that little "Post Comment" button is for). Everyone has to turn an opinion into a slanderous comment and sue everyone they can.

  • Nice looking horn. However, it has a little too much of that breathy sound to it...expecially in the high notes. It gets a little better towards the end, but still...it sounds like you're really putting a lot of air in there and nothing's coming out. Usually the breathy sound is ok with me, just too much of it on this horn. Otherwise, I can definitely see the 7 of 9 contributions.

  • jzzmn1816, you're a moron: i'd give my left nut to be half as good as this. i read your comment regarding the kid winning the yamaha thing, and it seems to me you have a problem with breath. i'm guessing you're one of these idiots who think flugels should sound like trumpets, or maybe you prefer that mega-wobbly brass band flugel sound, like someone playing whilst driving a tractor over a ploughed field with metal weights tied to their goolies?

  • Nowhere in my post did I say anything about the player, b/c he has some great licks in there. I was referring to the horn itself. No, I don't think a flugel should sound like the trumpet. A classic example of that is Maynard Ferguson, who I personally love but really don't like him playing flugel b/c he kept that viscious approach he had on the trumpet and carried it over to the flugel. I think that a flugel should be sweet and flowing, but should also have a solid sound.

  • Breathiness is great, as long as it fits in with what you're playing. He just had a little too much in there for my taste. How about you start reading what I wrote instead of making assumptions about what you think I meant, b/c it's obviously made an ass out of you.

  • i tried to read what you wrote but the banality of it made me blind. and each time i listen to the solo i can't hear 'breathy', only 'expression'. maybe we're listening to a different solos. still, at 2.05 in the a.m. who cares? perhaps you should post a video of yourself playing, see how breathy that is... ha ha, i'm joking, one man's meat being another man's wobbly brass band.

  • I other guy is a Maynerd Ferguson nuthugger.

There IS NO ONE WAY FOR AN INSTRUMENT TO SOUND like. That's what makes different musicians enjoyable to listen to. Purist points of view are for sissies. For the sissies, cut off yer testicles; you won't need them in your life, anyway.

  • The sound is a little breathy for me...it sounds like you're putting in too much air and not getting enough sound to back it up. Usually that's fine, but it's just got too much of that for my taste. Otherwise, it's definitely got a different look...I do like it. I would hate to try and run a snake up that bell to clean it though...or have one of those corners jab me anywhere.

  • ...either way, you don't know jack about flugel horn playing. check out the marvin stamm videos on here, or is he 'too tall' for your liking? or clark terry - too old? davey, i salute you (this is the guy from lee's band, if you read this), i'm proud to say i know you, hurry back to the brickies to show me how it's really done.

  • Or Bobby Shew - Too fat?

Or, the horn players from Con Funk Shun - Too greasy?

Or Allen Vizzutti - wastes his time playing with loser high school bands?

Or Doc Severinsen - Knows only one style, TOO DAMN LOUD!!!?

  • Talent! Cool horn.

  • Looks awesome. Sounds awesome. it is just awesome. I like it. I play trumpet, but I sure would like to play on one of these baby's!

  • Awesome! Great horn and beautiful sound. I've just seen the next vulcan trumpet creation in the flesh and it is simply the most outstanding instrument I have ever seen! The lines are clean and sharp with no ferules on the angle corners. Not just a piece of art, these instruments really do the job! Stunning in nickel finish. Want something special? Get hold of Andy Taylor and get him to make you one of these flugels or trumpets now!

  • This guy is called Davey Howes , Awesome player !!! got that real Incognito sound going on man !

  • Bad - besides the fact that you could really hurt yourself on that thing.

  • Beautiful horn - great player
