  • Lol I have a sneaking suspicion Justin may be high when filming some of these vids!!! What a legend though!

  • Thanks for this Justin. Thanks to you my guitar playing is improving steadily. I prefer this version of the start to the D maj version Dave G sometimes plays and it sounds great on an acoustic too.

  • Comment removed

  • I love your lessons.....but when I watch Dave playing this it clearly looks like a d major and he lifts his ring finger off for the intro??

  • Thanks bro. I appreciate the video. Very helpful.

  • Man, this song is so cool to play acoustic! I know Dave plays more acoustic versions of his songs (search for "Foo fighters pinkpop" for acoustic versions of walk and pretender). Any chance you could do those Justin? I would love to play more of the foo fighters in acoustic! Thanks by the way for all of

    your awesome lessons!

  • D o you think I could learn to play this song properly, even if I my only experience with the guitar was for about half a year eight or nine years ago and I wasn't really any good at it?:D

  • More Foo Fighters!!! Please.

  • I am A big fan of Marty @guitarjamzdotcom, Justin is the only other guy worth listening to!!.

  • Thanks..for the lesson..love it....

  • this is brillient. will you be doing more like this?

  • Why am I the only one that realised the title says "Guiatr"?

  • At least checking the Foo Fighters acoustic video in youtube it seems that Dave is playing the normal D (with some extras from Dsus)

  • Thanks for a great guitarlesson! I only had to look at it one time and then I could play it so I'd say that it was a very clear and structured video. I like the guitar you play on too, it's got a really nice sound=).

Just have to add to the conversation that it is not a normal D. Then everything I've learned during my 3 years of studying musik is wrong.

  • The intro is right, thats the way DAVE GROHL plays it, now you gonna tell me its wrong, no no.

  • its not wrong, most songs played on more than one guitar are a compromise when played solo, that opening sound is very distinctive and as usual Justin is spot on.

    Thanks for another great lesson

  • That intro chord sounds terrible. Are you tone deaf?

  • @ilikechiodos44 if any of you have ever heard the electric version of the song the chord hes playing is exactly right just sayyin

  • In Portugal the scale is DO, RE, MI, FA, SOL, LA, SI, someone can send me a message with the scale in English, if you please, I hear he say,Gminor or something, thank you, apreciated.

  • I wonder who are those 38 assholes, that press in dislike. Who can dislike a person so nice, and free guitar lessons. who? it must be very ungrateful people. Thank you my freind, you are amazing. sorry for my poor inglish.

  • @TheHelder1976 Justin is a GREAT teacher and Philanthropist. He donates his time and money to help causes all over the world. And teaches the World to play guitar on his site absolutely free. 1 of the true givers left in the world!!

  • Thank you. Nice job!

  • Gracias Winner!

  • Gracias Winner!

  • Hola !! La verdad que está muy copado lo que enseñas. Gracias por la mano que nos das a todos . a veces no nos da el dinero para pagar un profe particular. Gracias winner!

  • the first few strums you have to pull your finger off the g string, then you stay as a d chord into the first verse. Once you go through the am, c, em, e7? then you do a few pull offs again then into the second verse on a d.

  • Yep, victors right you know. All though the chord shown in this video is the one he uses in the origonal.

  • good work mate i couldnt figure out the wierd d chord before.

  • this is really a guiatr lesson lol

  • The intro is perfect for the normal version, Dave only plays the D chord on the acoustic version.

  • The intro chord he uses sounds like the one in the regular one. victorxb360 is right. it is just a D while going on n off with your first finger on the 3rd string.

  • why doesn't anyone read the description before they post comments? he knows the intro isn't right. His version is how they played it on BBC Radio

  • I love your fret markers!

  • it is not right - sorry to say so, but you have small adjustments that is important for the song to sound right , but I did learn something new here with that extra d thing- thanks :)

  • I love all your video's justin but this one doesn't sound good...

Whats wrong with playing the D chord and lifting your indexfinger?

it's the way to play it and also easier because you can keep your finger in the D position for the second part after the intro?

    love you anyway man.....

  • @disflexie listen to the acoustic version, this is right

  • Hey im wondering if you could post a lesson on foo fighters newest song - wheels ive tried working it out by ear but it doesnt sound great haha

  • That was a nice version of the song! You seam to have a nice way to make it easier to learn and Improvise later.... you know learn the easy then get "fancy" I never use the word... hey thanx man well done..Peace from Seattle WA

  • Your an amazing teacher Justin, keep 'em comin'.

  • Thanks Justin! amazing lesson!

  • its fuckin great rock and roll lmao

  • @chunkos666

lol. I laughed at that too :D

  • thankz to justin i can now play guitar JUSTIN a sincere thanks man there should be more people in the world as generous as you-- i want to donate money now lol your vids really helped a lot

  • hi guys! i cant get enough of the foo fighters and Grohl is a legend!! your cover was proper awesome!!!!! you have encouraged me soooo much over the last few months withall your help videos and tips!

i am a begginer guitarist who has attempted a cover of this awesome song! i tried not to masacre it too badly - please view and comment if you are interested! cheers!

  • um, i think hes doing a variation of the intro for the regular version, that index finger should go on the b string third fret btw

  • OMG, why dont all of you griping about the intro, read the info section to the right, he states that he is playing in a different manner. Also the way he is playing IS the way dave plays it on the electric version.

  • Comment removed

  • hmm think you need to go an listen to the song again, they do play a D when doing the odd acoustic version but really it is this chord at the begining :))

  • @victorxb360 yeh its wrong but he says that at the start of the video you tool

  • @victorxb360 thats what the song on the origional album uses. He uses the D on the acoustic

  • @bmanmess I know by now. But I still think the D chord sounds better though :)

  • @victorxb360 it's not necessarily wrong... he's doing a different version that he saw them play live. also, the electric guitar version is different from the accoustic version with the d aswell

  • @victorxb360

this is the electric version and not the acoustic in acoustic it's a D and you move your 1st finger on and of the B string

  • @DaDutchGuy95 I get that by now... And he plays on an accoustic, so why play the electric version when there is an accoustic??

  • @victorxb360 actually, he is playing it the way they play it on the electric guitar. On the acoustic version, they play it as a D pulling off the 1st finger off/on the 3rd string as well as the on/off w/ the low E with the thumb.

  • @victorxb360 i think you are right for the acoustic version but the original version is how he shows

  • @victorxb360

The D13 is used on the electric version.

Remember Justin's interpretation of the song is just that - his interpretation.

The riff's strumming is not quite as Justin says either.

    But both are close enough.

  • Sort of half correct. Check out the electric version and this is how the intro chord is played (you can even see Grohl play it in the music video) but Grohl does slow the song down and play just the regular open D for his acoustic version.

  • cuz its the right way to play at less that this is how dave plays in the album

  • @victorxb360 and isnt just a D its a D7add13

  • @victorxb360 Mate, the original electric version has this intro exactly as Justin plays it. I hear what your saying as on a lot of live acoustic versions Ghrol plays the D chord as you say. However listen to the Radio 1 Live lounge version where this lesson is spot on

  • @victorxb360 That is true for the acoustic version, but Justin is demonstrating the studio version.

  • Maaaaaaaaaaan You are the best...

    Thank you very much.

  • cheers buddy, you're awesome

  • Excellently cool.

  • justin mate love your work, keep it up haha thats what she said :)

  • Very good!!!

  • Your version of the Intro is wrong Justin!

He plays the D and hammeron on the sec. fret on the g-string.

  • dave grohl has played it both ways live. so no, the intro isnt wrong

  • Okay my fault...

But still live and not on the track

  • You are an absolute legend man!!

  • You are a legend Justin! Thanks muchly for this one. Love all your lessons... and they're FREEE!!!

    Awesome. :)

  • Cheers Justin Man I

    know The Song Now ThanksMan!

  • dave grohl is god

  • when he swore at the end i was totally shocked!!!! but i did lol

  • anyone know what guitar that is?

  • it's custom I think at least it looks that way and freak. I should be able to transcribe these songs myself but god I type in the song Justin sanderCoe'e there, so me"Cheat or learn...um learn(loser) then I end up coming to his vids again.after I'm done transcribing then just look at his way at doing the songs and it ends up the same freakin way every time.

sorry if I over killed the reply ummmm yea well another question answered to u ppl out there.

  • what's the struming ???

  • you are the best

  • Strange you haven't edited the title yet, it still says "Guiatr" instead of "Guitar"

  • tnx.this helped a lot

now i know a whole new song, u explain it soo great! ftw

  • you are the man!!

  • Great video, excellent lesson an alternative way of playing the intro which ive seen Dave do alot is keeping your finger on the 3rd fret b string and with a open high e,g and d string and with muted e and a strings strum the chord and then press your fingers down in the d chord position on the 2nd fret high e and g string and keep doing it until you come into the verse which Justin is playing, which is the d chord.

  • thanks dude !!!!!

  • cheers, helped me heaps

  • Comment removed

  • awesome.

  • lol 7:26!

thanks i learnt that in a click of a finger

  • Thanks!

  • great video. is this standard tuneing?

  • Cool beans dude. That first chord all way's through me off.

  • haha what I really liked is when you sang along & like said the Chords in the vocal parts that was awesome, & also you are good at vocals :) you were acutally the FIRST person I subcribed to when I made my youtube acc.

  • do you tune in an acoustic guitar normaly for this? because my 1st string makes a loud ting sound when i play with it tuned in normaly

  • mine too

  • fucking great

  • cool inlays and thanks i wanted to play this

  • For anyone who cares, you gotta kind of get an ear for strumming patterns, it gets easier after a while with practice. I use DDUUDU for this one song..

  • Im pretty dumb can someone tell me the strumming pattern for verse and chorus or is it the same?

  • great lesson, thanks for posting this! nice maton too!

  • good stuff thanks

  • what key is that song in?

  • Fantastic! Thanks for this. The 'critics' here seem to not understand that part of music is about the interpretation, not to be Dave Grohl clones. He probably doesn't play it the same way twice himself.

  • for the future. play the song right off the bat and then break it down as you go along. people like me could figure it out just watching the first time and i wouldnt have to try and find the full thing. give an example at the beginning = better.

  • Stop clicking your tongue..

  • i think ur guitar may be tuned wrong for the song, the riff sounds of

  • for the main riff play the d chord lifting your first finger instead of the 5th fret thingo. he is playing the original riff acoustically, not the acoustic version riff.

  • hey Justin you rock man, thank you very much bro, i am a kook with my guitar but thanks to you i can play something, then i went to your website and i saw how much you did,

of-course i will donate money to still learning from you man.

    CAMON GUYS LET DONATEEEEE

  • Great videos love the close up shots I wanted to know if you can break down Foo Fighters Best of you.

  • jezee what happend to stealing? watch the acoustic version AND watch his hand D .....

    then its like this

    ----2----0

    ----3----3

    ----2----0

obviously with the rythem ... but thats the beging

  • thank you so much! my only critism is that i like the intro with the "D" chord better. Your still awesome though!

  • urm. tst
