God, they are amazing! Now seeing these old videos on youtube, I see how the band is a bit more tame :( They still put on THE best live show, but you can see the difference... getting older sucks! It shows how you have to appreciate every moment in time.
Me and my brother visited Saturday Night Live in 2000 and we asked about what happened to jeffs bass at 3:12. She said that they perform the same song 3-4 times, and then they choose the best to air. They sometimes mix takes. Thats why it looks strange...

Watch at 3:12. Jeff adjusts his bass, not hitting the strings and the bass plays a fill! He's not playing bass on the show! There must've been someone backstage playing for him. I know that sounds crazy. But the bass is note-perfect the entire song, while he's jumping around so crazy. I know he's good, but no one is that good.
u actually do have a valid point my friend...ament sure as hell isnt playin that fill at 3:12...but i can assure u that this performance wasnt staged.almost every band bar a few always tweak a couple of things in post production on their live recordings...and think about it..this was the 1st time they were playing on national television...wouldnt u do the same?
there is suming on my mind......bring back this music...run the bubble-gum pop outta of here and bring back the proper music with real energy instead of manufactured bullshit...my choice is to rock to pearl jam 4eva
Dave is way better than Jack, no doubt in my musical mind. Why's the coat hanger on Ed's shirt? Probably because he's pro-choice and he was born with it in his ear.
It comes in waves. Alternative is an offshoot of classic rock, so what we need is an offshoot to alternative. 80's hair metal was pretty vapid just like this crap today, so I think were due again.
Actually this is how I got into Pearl Jam which is now my favorite band. I saw them on an SNL repeat when I was little and thought "........wow..........."
i know dave isnt pj's drummer, have u heard even flow with cameron, its awful compared to with dave a, dave used to be a better drummer(now he has carpel tunnel), they only got rid of him because of personel differences between him and eddie
easily one of their best albums...on which Matt had a mssive input...
Jack Irons was Edie's pal from his San Diego days and filled in nicely.
Dave was technically good ( that's a given) but a band is more a sum of it's parts than a bunch of individuals and he just didn't fit in as a band member. Binaural is a great album too. Pearl Jam album is a let down I'll concede.
THIS Pearl Jam in this veideo you're watching right now, is the Pearl Jam that ruled all, and they are GONE, and never coming back. All albums after Yield SUCK.
Shame that .... but I guess it's your loss...guess your just a part time fan lack most of the mewling cabbages out there. What you listening to now? The Foo Fighters? Maroon 5? MCR ?
Dude, I am not a "part time fan". Just because I'm not gung ho over EVERY album they put out, doesn't mean I'm a die hard fan. I've been a PJ fan since day 1.....even EARLIER. I'm just musically knowledgable enough to see when a band takes different turns for the worse....or better. I don't try to convince myself that albums are good, just because I'm worried about what kind of fan people think I am. I can give a shit less.
......And you're actually gonna sit there and try and debate the fact that an album like Riot Act is just as good as Ten....or Vs.....or Vitology or No Code......or even Yield???? Let it go dude, no one will judge what kind of fan you are just because you critique an album.
To be honest I fell away from them ( for a couple of years) after Vitalogy ... but Riot Act is seriously amazing.... OK it has different feel from Ten, but remember that Ten was recorded when they were still pretty young... music has to develope when you're in a band or you get bored... they're aging better than REM.
I still listen to Ten and Vs. they'll always be there for me.... "Pearl Jam" album was really poor though

So mind blowing then, even better now! Cool pro-choice statement. Crazy to think they were so good to start with and have evolved into something even greater.
Dude, they're not half as good NOW as they were back then during their first three or 4 albums. Not to mention that after they let Dave Abruzzese go, it kinda went downhill. They were in their PRIME with him on the kit.
Yea, ok, you know what the fuck you're talkin about. Jack Irons fuckin sucked cock, and Matt Cameron is a good drummer but he doesn't fit in PJ.
