@skadami334 - TNR was hosting the newsletters in their entirety until recently. Maybe because they are a conservative outlet and Paul is viewed as more mainstream to Republicans now than in 2008? As far as I'm concerned, no context can be added to many of these statement. Like the "95% of blacks are criminal" comment which is obviously made up. He did admit to writing them in 1996, and changed his story in 2001 to "it was a ghost writer."

Birthright citizenship is not stated in the 14th amendment. That clearly was referring to slaves who brought to the country against their will, not willing crossing the borders illegally. The Federal government has no jurisdiction with regards to marriage; where in the Constitution is this authority given? It is not and is therefore a right for the states to choose. You are picking choosing how you decide to perceive and interpret it to support what YOU want to see without seeing everything.

I'm not the ideologue here. I'm willing to listen to and respect ideas I disagree with. I doubt Ron Paul is a racist and I know I'm not. Ridiculous statements like Republicans running on a platform of homophobia and racism? That sounds like closed minded bigotry.
It's a shame these questionable Political Reports are being used to attack Paul instead of focusing on the real issues. Even setting him aside, I think there should be more mutual respect. I implore you to at least question if characterizing everyone on the right as a crazy racist is really any different than characterizing all gays as perverts.

I'm the product of an interracial marriage and my family supports Paul. His real opinion is that the government shouldn't even require marriage licenses, gay or straight. He changed his view on Don't Ask, Don't Tell, though that may have been after this video. If Ron Paul is a fraud it isn't doing him any favors because he's puting himself on the fringe. This evidence seems weak and circumstantial to me.

He thinks the state should decide if gays deserve equal rights under law, even though that is unconstitutional. And yes this video was made before his flip-flop on DADT.

How would you explain Paul admitting to writing the RP Political Report, claiming he was being taken out of context? There is a culture of bigotry within the Republican Party, especially in Texas. It's perfectly reasonable to assume he's racist simply by the crazy Republican Party he is part of.
@TheAntiAuthoritarian It's not so much that he's ignoring parts of the Constitution as he has a different interpretation than what you might agree with. In a recent intervew Ron Paul himself decried what he called "anti-intellectualism" in the GOP. It's not perfectly reasonable to assume he's a crazy bigot just because he's a Republican. That's stereotyping. I'm not denying there are bigots in the party, but it's unfair to be so dogmatic.
@Omotenium - I think he ignores the 14th Amendment when it comes to DOMA, We The People Act, and Texas' ban on gay sex. And I think he ignores the separation of church and state. Is it also stereotyping to assume members of the KKK hate blacks? The Republican Party is the party of white, male, christians. That is 90% of Republican elected leadership.
And the amount of things Paul claims are unconstitutional is ridiculous. According the U.S. Constitution (Ron Paul Edition) if it's not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution, therefore it is unconstitutional. Yet, no such statement exists in the constitution. According to Paul since the founding fathers didn't know global warming would occur, we can't act on global warming.

If gay marriage were an issue in my state I would support it. I think the right to benefits trumps the right of people not to have an unwanted definition of marriage forced upon them. I do not, however, question the states' regulatory powers. Would it be okay to argue that equal protection means minors can purchase guns?

@skadami334 - TNR was hosting the newsletters in their entirety until recently. Maybe because they are a conservative outlet and Paul is viewed as more mainstream to Republicans now than in 2008? As far as I'm concerned, no context can be added to many of these statement. Like the "95% of blacks are criminal" comment which is obviously made up. He did admit to writing them in 1996, and changed his story in 2001 to "it was a ghost writer."

Birthright citizenship is not stated in the 14th amendment. That clearly was referring to slaves who brought to the country against their will, not willing crossing the borders illegally. The Federal government has no jurisdiction with regards to marriage; where in the Constitution is this authority given? It is not and is therefore a right for the states to choose. Democracy should be direct, with one person and one vote all counting equally, not voting to hand off power to a tiny elite minority. The founders created a representative democracy to maintain the status quo.

Compromising to the Republican position on legislation defeats the point of our democracy. We needed a new New Deal, not extending tax cuts for the rich. The economy needs restructuring, not simple shifting of money back and forth. Citizens United is what will bring this country down, by allowing global corporations to buy off every last politician.

I'm the product of an interracial marriage and my family supports Paul. His real opinion is that the government shouldn't even require marriage licenses, gay or straight. He changed his view on Don't Ask, Don't Tell, though that may have been after this video. If Ron Paul is a fraud it isn't doing him any favors because he's puting himself on the fringe. This evidence seems weak and circumstantial to me.

In a recent intervew Ron Paul himself decried what he called "anti-intellectualism" in the GOP. It's not perfectly reasonable to assume he's a crazy bigot just because he's a Republican. If gay marriage were an issue in my state I would support it. I think the right to benefits trumps the right of people not to have an unwanted definition of marriage forced upon them. I do not, however, question the states' regulatory powers. Would it be okay to argue that equal protection means minors can purchase guns?
