that guy seems to be really cool.. he has a good sense of humor and actually very good technical knowledge (what you usually don't get from a VP of marketing in most companies :P)
I don't know why I needed to know that, couse if I was going to make seymour duncan mics I have to buy a magnetaicer and all the other stuff (will cost alot xD) instaid of just buy it for 200$ , but it's fun to know:P
@Mo7Vsta Black outs and EMG's are made the same way but with more wire and higher magnatisim. The only difference is that it has a cover which helps out the magnet and strings magnetic field, to produce a higher output.
@randomdude6662007 not all metals can be magnetized.. alnico for example in this case is supposed to be magnetised hence why he used unmagnetised in this situation.
@huyiy I know, I do actually have an education! I'm not calling the guy stupid and I fully understand what he meant, I just saw a bit of comedy in the way he phrased it!
Guys, in 4:45 , he tells the guys to tell him the difference between alnico 3 and 5 for a BASIC standpoint, and the pickup guy gives him an entire Science lesson! lol XD
AlNiCo is NOT subject to demagnetize with "temperature change" it's 100% bullcrap since it's maximum operating temperature (not to be confused with Curie temp) is the HIGHEST of all magnet materials (500° C ) . Ferrite's (ceramic) max is 250°C , NdFeB(neodymium) is 80-200°C, SmCo(samarium) is 250-350°C.
IS ambient temperature around 500°C ? come on...But AlNiCo magnets are effectively easily demagnetized with mechanical shocks, friction etc
True, I've been working to dispel the "aged alnico magnet marketing myth for a few years now. I have invested lots of money in gauss meters and have checked Fender and Gibson magnets all the way back to the 1950's. Their charge can be affected by strong magnetic fields but that doesnt really happen to guitars much in the real world.
very interesting.have just bought an indie super t guitar(basically a telecaster)and have a single coil at neck, humbucker at bridge.when i can, would like to upgrade pickups, but do not know which ones to go for.i attempt to play styles ranging from metal to bluesy to clean.i just wondered, what someone might recommend?thanks for your time!!!
to be honest,i haven't yet looked for new pickups, but i am thinking about ringing a company called bareknuckle pickups, here in uk,as they make hand wound pickups.they have had some rave reviews!!!sorry i wasn't more help!!!
I really liked the explanation: old guitars sound different, because they are technically *worse*: their pickups being de-magnetized after the years in labour. Actually, I do remember something from my youth: my high school classmate said the pickups need to be properly oxydized! Well... what would Jimi Hendrix pick: brand new high tech pickups of his era, or the classic pickups from the past?
but lace pickup to me sound good to and they are at a bit better price but i have to agree they do sound good but i mean their to expensive for mt taste but the website is very informative
Also I was not told, or forgot not to place my guitar and where, against the Amp or on top of it.
And even more messed up out of all the things I have come across about guitar repair, I do not ever remember anyone saying about keeping you guitar AWAY FROM YOUR AMP..
8:35 Huh.... So Whenever I get close to my amp to get feedback it slightly demagnetizes your pickups...

@randomdude6662007 alnico and ceramic magnets have to be magnitised
etrinityguitar 6 months ago
@etrinityguitar Otherwise you would have a piece of metal and/or a piece of ceramic rather than a magnet. I understand.
randomdude6662007 6 months ago
@randomdude6662007 you get the magnets unmagnetized so they're easier to handle

it is very senceless to say, the Magnets would have different sound... A Magnet is a magnet... thats it...

why not just recharge the pickups again instead of getting new ones if they lose their magnetic field

Having worked with alnico 5 I can say that there is not a whole lot of consistency among manufacturers and even lots in quality.
Even gausing a magnet twice, seemingly the same way, often produces moderate but noticable variances in magnetism.
That's why I prefer to actually hear the pickup before I buy it.

Very cool and awesome video, on how Seymour Duncan pickups are made.
Enjoyed Evan Scott's smart mouth comments, on some of there High Tech equipment.
