@bumfluffguy Im thinking of buying one too ... some said that this is the best 125 cc bike ever ... it looks good and sounds good ... i thing its good for beginers like me :P ... and it has 2.2l of gas / 100 km ...
@bumfluffguy im pretty sure it can do more than 70 and if you have the money go for a new cagiva mito or new aprillia rs 125 much faster and i think better looking dont get second hand ones though.
the yamaha has great reviews though and is beautiful but yeah 70mph is a cruising speed :L
Finally got myself a bike :) Got a Ninja 250, which is OK for me. I'm only 5' 8", but I've got short unfit legs :p
Still getting used to the motions, but so far it's pretty fun. Once you're moving the size doesn't really matter, but stopping in weird positions sucks on the bigger/heavier machines :(
Is there anyone who's willing to donate a bike to a 20 years old youngster ready to ride the roads but empty pocketed ? ... Any help is apreciated . Being a teen in a shity country like Romania in full economical crysis sucks ...
I know you probably get asked this all the time, but would you recommend a Ninja 650R for a new rider? My neighbor just so happens to be selling his and I'm interested. If I purchase it I will be taking riding classes before I even ride it. :)
Hey M13, a friend and I were talking about what 250cc bikes would make really good starters and we narrowed it down to CBR250 (86-96), Ninja 250r, or the new CBR250R?
wow. i ride a 06 black and yellow gsxr 750 and a few other similar bikes and i even think that gladius is sexy. i would ride that if i was goin distance,
I had an SV650 though (older version of the Gladius) it was a great bike, quick too. I still have to say, though if you want a quick V-twin, go with a Duc.
@W1LDwanderer ya but the price difference is where the kicker is. also the jap bikes are much cheaper to work on. plus in my opinion the majority of ducs arent street bikes to me they are race bikes due to their aggressive riding position
@pcracer2 I sort of disagree. I have zero rise clip-ons on my Monster, so it's lower than most jap bikes, but if your in good physical shape, it feels comfy when you're used to it. Also the desmodromic valves look intimidating to tune, but at least they're easy to get to. The Suzukis have the shim-under-bucket setup. You pretty much have to take the whole top end apart to get to them. Also, Ducs are built to last. Jap bikes seem to loose their pop after about 30,000.
@W1LDwanderer just depends on how you look at it. sport bikes are used and abused anyway and from what i have seen, at least where i live, most dont seem to have anything close to that milage and are trashed by that point in time. also depends on whether you are doing the work or paying someone to do it. labor at my local duc shops are 1 1/2 per hour more than what the jap dealers charge. to me its not the bar position on a duc is the pegs they feel too tight to my chest.
@pcracer2 Ducs are like the Apple Computers of the motorcycle world. Fan boys on one side, haters on the other :) One thing to be aware of is duc owners will say anything to justify paying more for a heavier bike that puts out less horsepower.
@W1LDwanderer It's not really justification. Speaking on the bike side: Duc's tend to come with up market suspension, electronics packages, brakes, etc. I'm sure if you spent the same amount on your GSXR or CBR they'd come with that stuff, too. Another thing to note is that Ducati doesn't just make sports bikes. Pretty much they make two: 1198 and 848 and they come in a couple trim packages. Their other machines are just as full of life and character (and up market goodies, too.)
@pcracer2 So, what you're saying is out of the Diavel, Monster, Multistrada, Superbike, Streetfighter and Hypermotard in all their different trims they're all race bikes, even though only the 848 and 1198 are sports bikes? Have you actually ridden a Ducati?
The gladius replaced the sv650 so it's not really a new bike just new cosmetics the suspension changed but it still uses a 649cc dohc motor in a trellis frame
I was down to three choices for my latest bike, between the ER-6F, an SFV650 (Gladius) or a Hyosung GT650R.
Unfortunately I thought with my wallet and went for the Hyo, and the shitty piece of shit rear disc wore down really quickly [ so quickly I didn't notice ] until I took a corner on some twisties without rear brakes to help set up the turn.
tl;dr Snapped my leg in half. Missed over three months of work. Buying Japanese next time. Girl's bike or otherwise.
@MedCreativityPlant How is that even possible? I've never heard of anyone wearing down a rear disc. I'm talking people who ride hundreds of thousands of miles.
The metals Hyosung users are really cheap, and after I put new pads on the disc wore down to the metal really quick. Not hearing about it isn't the same as it not happening.
@MedCreativityPlant I live in Seoul and pretty close with the owners of the shop I go to. They said they wouldn't service my bike if I bought a GT250R, which I was thinking about. haha.
I am in the process of getting a gladius at the moment. In australia they are classified for the LAMS (Learner Aproved Motor Cycle Scheme). they de-tune them a bit but its a great bike and for someone my size (6ft 4inches) they are suprisingly comfortable.
The Gladius is the replacement for the SV650 range. As many have said, it's a more 'girly' looking bike, but it has a much improved V-twin engine over the original SV. I hope they will bring out a faired version of it in the future, and a 1000cc big brother :D
Americans that poke fun at 650cc sport bikes are usually the ones that are buying 1000cc sport bikes and lay them down 4 or 5 times before finally hitting a stationary object while going 150mph and spreading their body parts along a mile of interstate.
Strong enough to manage just fine on the highway (but wind is still more annoying), weak enough not to accidentally wheelie so hard you fall off the back and it crashes into a fence 200 yards ahead of you from a noob mistake, very popular, looks good, good insurance, TONS of aftermarket... although, I'd recommend buying a used one, unless you're confident you won't cry after scratching up your BRAND NEW bike from an accidental drop.
@1102071 most used bikes 600cc and less are beginner friendly (talking sport-styled bikes) would be reasonable for a beginner, anything below 5k miles is always a good thing. Other bikes... Honda's CBR250 they just came out with, dont know if there are older ones.. there's Yamaha's SV650 & FZ6R (a bit big, but pretty tame for the engine size), kawasaki had a 500(?)cc model for some time you could look into used, Suzuki's GS500F is pretty reasonable, and Hyosungs GT250R(offbrand, but still good!)
Gladius us an awesome bike, the ER6N seems to be kawasaki's response to it, but from reviews i hear it doesnt pack enough fun in to the ride...its a great bike for starting riders. The insurance is great for the young and inexperienced...More fun though SV650SA...hollar
Yo, M13. Im a big fan amd jusr bought ur private series. Also thinking about doing that tour, would love to visit that area. Anyways I dont know if someone else posted or not, but the gladius is just the naked version of the suzuki SV650. Also come with fill fairings or bikini fairings. I own a 2004 SV650/S bikini myself and love it. Look into it for ur next bike, its very versitile.
I've not seen anyone riding a Gladius around here. Have seen quite a few Versys being ridden here lately. Maybe the Gladius will start being more popular as a poor man's monster.
Twin 650 should be plenty powerful for most users. And its a cool looking design (IMHO).
hey m13, my friend was wondering what the difference is between one cylinder and a twin? hes looking at a 250cc bike and was comparing a 250cc single and a 250cc twin. advantages/disadvantages for both? thanks!
@quwers just take a 4litre v8 compared with a 4litire v10 with the same horse power, v10 torque output will be more. More cylinders at anyone time ensure ignition is happening faster than it would with less cylinders, so the more common your ignition stroke, the more torque you will have, but not power, as more cylinders means more friction in the motor.
@13mordeth not always the case. transmission gearing and chain/shaft gearing also come into play. also design of the engine itself, two or four valve can make a large difference in power as well. the klx250(single) and ninja 250(parallel twin) are good examples. both are DOHC and both have about the same amount of torque, but the klx tops out at about 80-85 and the ninja can do 95-100.
@onegrayleaf The single cyl has a crazy amount of vibration and noise for its size -- at least the Buell Blast that I tried did. They call them "thumpers" for a reason.
M13, lol your comment on the lady on the end made me crack up XD
to some posers,
anyways about "girly bikes" i will not judge on a bike just because it's a 250cc and below?(really wierd judgement there). let's see that you ride a pink GSXR.... that'll be cool(spectators with odd and wierd looks at you)
i would consider "girl bikes" on the color and obvious designs that thay had... that makes them girly. and it's the rider's choice to ride bikes with ackward colors and designs.
@tremor1016 just want to add this up... even the 600cc or so.
and another thing, we guys criticize too much of what others ride. you don't know the reason why they have to ride what they have now, seriously. but if we see a chic riding a 1000cc we gave the the highest regards and leaving our tongues hanging out. well that's my opinion anyways.
when we watch your ad's completly through do you get more money? i always do because i think it does but id rather not if it doesent hahaha love you! all homo.....
we just can't get shit in my town. try shopping state side "nope, don't have it" oh ok "no we don't cary that" oh well "we heard of it but don't sell it" awe man "you can buy the same boring shit everyone else has" oh right. thhbbtttt
Bone stock 09-up Gladius. Basically the new-model SV650. As a 2nd Gen SV650 rider, it looks like a naked 1st-Gen, but rides like a 2nd Gen. Often deemed a girly-bike when compared to the GSXR cousins, but it's very practical, easy to modify and maintain, and can lend itself to track duty if the rider wants to.
I don't like it, tank big and wide and the color isnt as vibrant, besides I like your bike in the youtube biggest swinger video toward the end, just upgrade the guts because the style is awesome and the colors are great, IMO of course.
The modern replacement to the SV650, looks more like the old SV IMO. I Recently got an 05 SV650, no complaints, and i'm sure the gladius will be similar, maybe with some better brakes and suspension!
As far as i can see it's a bone stock Gladius 2009->. Effing gorgeous bike. Should ride really well to. Would be my choice if i were to buy anything in that class atm.
awesome chick on the gladius. for your first bike it all depends on you. my first bike was a 600cc since i found a deal on it. 97' cat 15k miles 1.5k u.s $ perfect condition. I just didn't want to resell a 250 when i got over it, too much of a hassle. i made the right choice. :)
I am about 5'4" and and weigh about 100 lbs and I want a bike that I can safely ride on the freeway (a bike that can easily and efficiently cruise at about 70-100 mph). I have been riding dirtbikes off road ever since I was about 10 years old and now I am 16. I was told that I am pretty good at riding by my dad's friends who have been riding for 20+ years. I am not a strong person. What would be the best sports bike for me to buy in America that is also cheap?
@LightlyFried Ninja 250's can just barely make it up to freeway speeds. That is my problem, I don't want to overwhelm myself with large amounts of power and a heavy bike but at the same time I want a bike that can easily cruise at 70-100 mph.
@NoFukinNamesLeft im not in the UK...better off how? :s i want nothing to do with aprillia and a ninja 250 is awesome but for 1/3th the price I can get a yamaha r125...
Here in the UK, the Gladius is definitely seen as a 'ladies' bike...just because of the low seat height and styling/colour availability.
I agree that low displacement bikes shouldn't be branded 'beginner bikes', if you live in the city, or just use your bike to commute, where's the point in getting an 1000, when you could get a 125 and get there just as quick and save some money.
But i'm sure M13 already respects that, being as he has a scooter.
@13mordeth And I'm guessing even less GSX-R1000s and busas, lol.
Eh, they're not good for the territory, not nimble enough for the narrower Taiwanese roads. Even my R1, which is roughly the size of a 600RR (maybe a tad bigger, but it's a very small bike for its displacement compared to say the GSX-R1000 which is huge) would def. have trouble navigating some of those narrow ally ways & streets that I see you go down in ur vids.
I've been growing gladiolis in the garden for years and ripping them out each winter.
Do you think if I left them in the ground they might grow a motorcycle?

Hey M13, I'm a new rider. What kind of bike would you suggest? What do you think about an 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250R?
Thanks
1102071 10 months ago
@1102071 I'm not M13, but...
that's a very, very good choice.
VremGO 10 months ago
@VremGO Thx, but whats another bike do you think is worth buying? And is a used bike with 5,000 or least miles good?
1102071 10 months ago
@1102071 most used bikes 600cc and less are beginner friendly (talking sport-styled bikes) would be reasonable for a beginner, anything below 5k miles is always a good thing. Other bikes... Honda's CBR250 they just came out with, dont know if there are older ones.. there's Yamaha's SV650 & FZ6R (a bit big, but pretty tame for the engine size), kawasaki had a 500(?)cc model for some time you could look into used, Suzuki's GS500F is pretty reasonable, and Hyosungs GT250R(offbrand, but still good!)
VremGO 10 months ago
It kinda looks like a knock of of a Ducati...

I just got a Gladius and i love it you are right it is a good bike for intermediate riders and looks really cool!!!
andge08 10 months ago
Gladius us an awesome bike, the ER6N seems to be kawasaki's response to it, but from reviews i hear it doesnt pack enough fun in to the ride...its a great bike for starting riders. The insurance is great for the young and inexperienced...More fun though SV650SA...hollar

jsbgamer21 10 months ago
Look into it for ur next bike, its very versitile.
jsbgamer21 10 months ago
its fucking called a GLADIUS. What is more manly than that

When you said "is ridden by this young lady here" I was waiting for your to be like "ahhhhh that's hot."
TheJaded 10 months ago
I've not seen anyone riding a Gladius around here. Have seen quite a few Versys being ridden here lately. Maybe the Gladius will start being more popular as a poor man's monster.
Twin 650 should be plenty powerful for most users. And its a cool looking design (IMHO).
dahveed284 10 months ago
hey m13, my friend was wondering what the difference is between one cylinder and a twin? hes looking at a 250cc bike and was comparing a 250cc single and a 250cc twin. advantages/disadvantages for both? thanks!
onegrayleaf 10 months ago
@onegrayleaf Less cylinders more torque....more cylinders more horsepower.
13mordeth 10 months ago 6
@13mordeth other way around. Like with Formula one, same size engine v10 gives more torque than a v8 of the same capacity.
The less ammount of cylinders means it revs higher, high revving engines don't have as much torque as lower revving ones, generally.
jackobcooper 10 months ago
@jackobcooper F1 2.4 V8 and 3 litre V10, you're wrong.
quwers 10 months ago
@quwers they tested it before they made it, 3litre v8 was alot less torque
jackobcooper 10 months ago
@quwers just take a 4litre v8 compared with a 4litire v10 with the same horse power, v10 torque output will be more. More cylinders at anyone time ensure ignition is happening faster than it would with less cylinders, so the more common your ignition stroke, the more torque you will have, but not power, as more cylinders means more friction in the motor.
jackobcooper 10 months ago
@13mordeth not always the case. transmission gearing and chain/shaft gearing also come into play. also design of the engine itself, two or four valve can make a large difference in power as well. the klx250(single) and ninja 250(parallel twin) are good examples. both are DOHC and both have about the same amount of torque, but the klx tops out at about 80-85 and the ninja can do 95-100.
pcracer2 10 months ago
@onegrayleaf
Singles also tend to be kind of..well...thumpy...that is they vibrate more typically.
Radient001 10 months ago
@onegrayleaf The single cyl has a crazy amount of vibration and noise for its size -- at least the Buell Blast that I tried did. They call them "thumpers" for a reason.
cubix2006 10 months ago
@onegrayleaf You must be talking about the ninja 250 and the new honda 250 cbr, right?
pingpongyul 10 months ago
yeah.. that thing has SV written all over it... I love my SV...
tonythephatone 10 months ago
M13, lol your comment on the lady on the end made me crack up XD
to some posers,
anyways about "girly bikes" i will not judge on a bike just because it's a 250cc and below?(really wierd judgement there). let's see that you ride a pink GSXR.... that'll be cool(spectators with odd and wierd looks at you)
i would consider "girl bikes" on the color and obvious designs that thay had... that makes them girly. and it's the rider's choice to ride bikes with ackward colors and designs.
tremor1016 10 months ago
@tremor1016 just want to add this up... even the 600cc or so.
and another thing, we guys criticize too much of what others ride. you don't know the reason why they have to ride what they have now, seriously. but if we see a chic riding a 1000cc we gave the the highest regards and leaving our tongues hanging out. well that's my opinion anyways.
tremor1016 10 months ago

DVSnmeSON 10 months ago
Bone stock 09-up Gladius. Basically the new-model SV650. As a 2nd Gen SV650 rider, it looks like a naked 1st-Gen, but rides like a 2nd Gen. Often deemed a girly-bike when compared to the GSXR cousins, but it's very practical, easy to modify and maintain, and can lend itself to track duty if the rider wants to.
Dark2JZGE 10 months ago
Can't you tell the year of it by looking at the regestration plate? You can do it on UK plates

The white BMW 1 series from the beggining of the video looks so sick .
Paulsghost 10 months ago
I don't like it, tank big and wide and the color isnt as vibrant, besides I like your bike in the youtube biggest swinger video toward the end, just upgrade the guts because the style is awesome and the colors are great, IMO of course.

hey m13 i was wondering if you give out your steam account if so wat is it? lol
rEcKLesSzzz 10 months ago
The modern replacement to the SV650, looks more like the old SV IMO. I Recently got an 05 SV650, no complaints, and i'm sure the gladius will be similar, maybe with some better brakes and suspension!

The gladius is stock man.
I think it actually has an engine bassed on the SV650.
Then again, so does the DL650
Wever1988 10 months ago 17
it kind of looks like the Ducati Monster :)
BboyIc0N 10 months ago
@BboyIc0N It does have an Italian look, with the big long seat they could have called it the Gluteus.
Moosepiesandwich 10 months ago
they say the gladius is designed for women, but id still ride it haha
Infaf09 10 months ago
GSXR looks so damn nice. Year more and i`m buying 750 - its awesome.
L2xMithles 10 months ago
awesome chick on the gladius. for your first bike it all depends on you. my first bike was a 600cc since i found a deal on it.

JacoPastorius99 10 months ago
@JacoPastorius99 id say any 250cc
LightlyFried 10 months ago
@LightlyFried Ninja 250's can just barely make it up to freeway speeds. That is my problem, I don't want to overwhelm myself with large amounts of power and a heavy bike but at the same time I want a bike that can easily cruise at 70-100 mph.
JacoPastorius99 10 months ago
@JacoPastorius99 check out blinkycab on youtube he has a 250cc is 6'2 and goes on the freeway with no problem.
LightlyFried 10 months ago
think a bike like that would be good for a guy who weighs in at 263lbs and is 6'1"?

I'm drooling over a yamaha r125 as a first bike, but my uncle says its too small for me...wat? o.O whats your take on the yamaha r125 overall M13? :D
Ricerguy 10 months ago
@Ricerguy I'm 6ft 3 and ride a CBF125.
quwers 10 months ago
@Ricerguy If your in the UK youd be better of with an aprilia rs 125 or kawasaki ninja 250r.
NoFukinNamesLeft 10 months ago
@NoFukinNamesLeft im not in the UK...better off how? :s i want nothing to do with aprillia and a ninja 250 is awesome but for 1/3th the price I can get a yamaha r125...
Ricerguy 10 months ago
@Ricerguy oh in the UK all three bikes are very close in price :\
NoFukinNamesLeft 10 months ago
Prefer the SV650.
SuperCheese088 10 months ago
Here in the UK, the Gladius is definitely seen as a 'ladies' bike...just because of the low seat height and styling/colour availability.
I agree that low displacement bikes shouldn't be branded 'beginner bikes', if you live in the city, or just use your bike to commute, where's the point in getting an 1000, when you could get a 125 and get there just as quick and save some money.
But i'm sure M13 already respects that, being as he has a scooter.
On a unrelated note, Kawasaki Versys FTW

what was the name of the exhaust on that gsx? any1 know?
FeedOnCaffeine 10 months ago
So... that's 1 of the 2 or 3 GSXR's in the WHOLE of Taiwan?
Thomazz46 10 months ago
@Thomazz46 No. There are only a couple of 750s in Taiwan. There are hundreds of GSXRs.
13mordeth 10 months ago
@13mordeth And I'm guessing even less GSX-R1000s and busas, lol.
Eh, they're not good for the territory, not nimble enough for the narrower Taiwanese roads. Even my R1, which is roughly the size of a 600RR (maybe a tad bigger, but it's a very small bike for its displacement compared to say the GSX-R1000 which is huge) would def. have trouble navigating some of those narrow ally ways & streets that I see you go down in ur vids.
MrSlowestD16 10 months ago
@13mordeth So there are a lot of GSX-R 600/1000 but only a few GSX-R 750's? Any idea why?
