I am a Croat and I listened to both versions of this song (in English and Croatian).I can tell you that the English version of this song has no resemblance to the original.It was made just to rhyme, but words are far from a literal translation.

In SFRY you had Serbo-Croatian, Slovene and Macedonian, and that is the reason why I told that it is better for u to study Yugoslavian language, in basic it is the same shit, only have some difference with Slovenian and Macedonian, while Serbian and Croatian are the same! SFRY was the Yugoslav state that existed from the second half of W W II (1943) until it was dissolved in 1992. It was a socialist state and a federation made up of BiX, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.

Yes it is alike. I know for a fact because My Selo ( village) In croatia has the Slovenian border right across . Theres many words that are different and many words that are alike. You could Understand croatians if they were to speak slow enough because the accent is lighter on the Croatian side,and Heavier on the Slovenian :))
