First of all the city county needs to fine a cheap and humane way to kill the vast majority of the cat, dogs that are not licensed or implanted. That means within hours of bringing the cats, dog to the pound they are dead. After wipe out most of the problem city might stand a chance to do placement of cats, dogs with people. Anything less than that you are fooling yourselves and just wasting citizens taxies.
The property owner needs to grasp the concept that TNR is the humane and most cost-effective way to go. She can get help with the financial aspect of TNR.
if you are lonely or depressed a cat makes a wonderful pet. I have felt much better since i took in a very small stray kitten a year ago. He is now very friendly and even wants to cuddle up to me in bed
I am so sorry that you had to take on such a responsibility to get these cats off of your property. My God; 50 cats?! Geez! When I had a cat problem, I originally wanted to do the TNR, but my area doesn't have free clinics, and I don't make much in terms of money. I even tried the no-kill shelter in my area, but they don't accept cats from individuals; only from shelters. In the end, I trapped 4 cats, took them to the shelter, and only 2 of them were adopted. The other two were euthanized.
Our SPCA does not take in feral cats, and our county killed 11,000+ cats last year. We have a serious homeless cat issue with very few resources. If you join us on facebook (bakersfield cat control) there is a news story on there regarding our county. Our shelter takes in 600 a week and 400 are killed every week.
Currently we are looking for relocation sites such as farms and businesses etc, but we have had no luck so far.
killing a cat is like killing your neighbors own child.
if i saw some one "killing" over population control, i would react as if i were a silver back gorilla and probly rip some one face off.
