dave ; i always wanted to play such stuff. it is very similar to mark knopfler s technique. this tutorial is as good as it gets....you are gold , man , thanks so much, is there more such riffs on your site ??
i know les pauls arent the easiest playing guitars in the world, but imo they are just far superior tone wise. i dont see why more people dont play them more often.
@JKryanX Many people, including myself, find them a little too muddy, but it all comes down to taste. I prefer Music Man guitars, they are a little clearer but still creamy. I just love their punch. I just wish my Petrucci 7-string was as reliable as a Les Paul. The neck is far too sensitive to the unstable climate here.
There are very few accomplished guitar players that are excellent at playing AND instructing(both art forms), you do both very, very well. I believe you're right up there with Rik Emmett & Steve Morse. Your presentations are always a pleasure to watch.
Dude, that riff has got a great groove to it. It wasn't bad enough that I'm dying to hear your second album but now you're teasing us with the third? You're an evil man, Mr Weiner ;)
A reply from the man himself on my birthday, cheers mate, lol. Looking forward to listening to it. Thanks for giving us Riff of the Week EVERY week for the past few years. Always motivates me to play. Take it easy, chap!
thx for the lessons dave,i thought hybrid picking involved a pick, and plucking with 2nd,3rd, and 4th fingers. but you dont have a pick, so is it fingerstyle?
You fuckin rock dave! thanks for posting these videos! I post videos myself, but I've gotten to where I'm at today because of people like you going out of your way to post free tutorials. You have no idea how much it means to me. I wish everyone would post tutorials teaching riffs. But thanks dave! \m/
he's using his thumb on the g string on the pentatonic lick, is that "good" technique or not I'm wondering or is it better to use the ring finger
Barefoot67 10 months ago
@Barefoot67 ups, not the ring finger, the one, ehm next to the thumb you use for pointing :)

well as stated it's already part of a song, so you're out of luck, but use it to inspire other riffs and ideas.

yeah i corrected myself in the vid. I've been playing this song with a pick so i was used to saying hybrid picking.
