Who have been the Great Changers in music? Those people who have changed not just Music but Our Lives? Well, I supposed it started with Louis Armstrong, then Charlie Parker, Miles, John Coltrane. Since Trane, Who? In my humble opinion there was only one person, Michael Breker.
He died at an early age, but his passing was barely even reported. Anyone seen any TV Docs. about him?
Stunning work from titanic players. Who could swing them harder than Bill Stewart - Bill Stewart, I say! Sort of a musical nuclear power plant on the drumkit.
Man Brecker seems like he's having a rough day. I don't know just seems his energy at the beginning and starting his solo is not focused on the music. Not that he doesn't still sound great, but anyone else think so?
If you look at 7:44, he's using his left hand for the bassline, but i'm sure there's way too much pedal in there too for me to not have my mind blown anyway.

i don't understand why you watch this stupid music. like i sayd befo, sax players are like geese in the fact that they honk and show off to hopelessly attract mates like you
your a fucking ignorant. if it wasn't for charlie parker. We would be stuck playing just blues scales.. your a fucking idiot. Go home and study your shit.
hahah "dingdingclg":who sent u to "waste" ur time with these "idiots" like brecker, who actually made the last step on improvisation since he eat coltrane alive and develop him. please keep watching your teen movies alone.
I love Brecker but I personally like Coltrane better. Brecker may have passed Coltrane on technique but I just can't get enough of Coltrane's tone. But I guess thats just an opinion thing.
far out, 'Tales from the Hudson' is one of my favorite albums, its hard to pick out just one or two tunes above the rest but song for bilbao is definitely up there, the last B section of metheny's solo is absolutely insane, in fact that entire solo is mind-boggling. i was specifically looking for albums with this line up which i found in the form of Brecker's 'Time is of the essence' which is good but i've only just started listening to it so it'll doubt get better...
Brecker made me smile when I first heard him on a Cobham recording years ago ("Pleasant Pheasant"). This solo moves me the same way! His fire, audacity, and control of the instrument is breathtaking.
By the same token, I have to give major props to organist, Larry Goldings. His soloing was superb! But to follow Brecker, he did the best he could do, play a couple hot choruses and the get the hell out!
What a loss...someone said when Coltrane died that Brecker picked up the torch and I wouldn't argue. Now he's gone too. Most of us can only wish to one day leave behind a document as rich and beautiful as the work this dude put down.
Thanks for the post - what an ensemble! Special kudos to Bill Stewart, such a musical drummer.
dude you're totally right about that... that's so awesome
one (ridiculously long) lick i thought was freakin BURNIN was the one he does from 4:15 to 4:35... it's like a pentatonic thing he shifts up a half step (correct me if i'm wrong) but it sounds so sick
haha cool it's my favorite album too, very underrated also. although idk if i agree that this version is as good as the original. it's GREAT but the original is just out of this world. jack dejohnette kills that one
man i thought nothing could be better than the original recording of this because the dejohnette and brecker and metheny just lay it down. But this gives it a run for its money!!!
well, fuck me side ways!
