  • well, fuck me side ways!

  • EXCELLENT

  • 3:35 steve lukater?? hihihi

  • Best ride cymbal sound. Bill Stewart. He ditched the flannels this gig!!!

  • that twat from toto spoiled the whole video

  • @guitarfan1979

hahaha a sudden realisation from steve lukather that THIS is, in fact, how to play a solo.

  • Who have been the Great Changers in music? Those people who have changed not just Music but Our Lives? Well, I supposed it started with Louis Armstrong, then Charlie Parker, Miles, John Coltrane. Since Trane, Who? In my humble opinion there was only one person, Michael Breker.

He died at an early age, but his passing was barely even reported. Anyone seen any TV Docs. about him?

I really would like to hear.

  • fuck, Bill stewart is awesome!

  • who's that one idiot dislike this awesome video? maybe he mis-pressed the button

  • Monsters!!!

  • That´s sooo insane...

  • I swear Pat wears that shirt in like every other show he does

  • Stunning work from titanic players. Who could swing them harder than Bill Stewart - Bill Stewart, I say! Sort of a musical nuclear power plant on the drumkit.

  • indimenticabile brecker

  • is that Steve Lukather on 3:39 !?!?!??

  • Yes :D

  • @swieca666 ...looks like Luk to me:)

  • @swieca666 YES!

  • Man Brecker seems like he's having a rough day. I don't know just seems his energy at the beginning and starting his solo is not focused on the music. Not that he doesn't still sound great, but anyone else think so?

  • ahhh 5:45 to 5:53... Itsbynne Reel! just caught that

    good stuff

  • grande Brecker

  • mike brecker has left an glorious heritage of music....mb forever

  • muuuuito legal!

  • Spectacular. And I've never heard Bill Stewart sound better.

  • This is perfection

  • Larry Goldings is left-hand and feet awesomeness like neal evans from soulive :)

  • Bill Stewart is one of my fave drummers of all time

  • If you look at 7:44, he's using his left hand for the bassline, but i'm sure there's way too much pedal in there too for me to not have my mind blown anyway.

  • truth in music says...smokin' indeed!

  • all great!!

  • Goldings feet are killin'!

  • so he's playing that bassline with the organ pedals???

  • AstroLogicalBeats- Yeah. And comping, and soloing. Playin' the real sh*t too. Ears like an elephant. Goldings is a full on cat, man.

  • i dont understand why when i reply to a comment that it just posts at the very top and not under the comment that i am replying to.

  • what kind of music do you like then?

  • he probably listens to nature sounds of mating geese

  • well somehow you found yourself on this page and video, didn't you ;)

  • your a fucking ignorant. if it wasn't for charlie parker. We would be stuck playing just blues scales.. your a fucking idiot. Go home and study your shit.

  • Lester Young was just as important.

  • are you seriously that dumb? i don't understand how someone can be so fucking numb-skulled.

  • Great Mike...the biggest lost since Coltrane,a thought to Bob Berg either.

  • Why the ridiculous comparison of Brecker with Coltrane. They were both great artists!

  • LOLOL

dude, your completely and utterly out of control!

  • @jazztptas1 Hahahaha coming from a trumpet player sax players are "note machines" but you can't really mean that stuff...

  • brecker is a beast!

  • hahah "dingdingclg":who sent u to "waste" ur time with these "idiots" like brecker, who actually made the last step on improvisation since he eat coltrane alive and develop him. please keep watching your teen movies alone.

  • I love Brecker but I personally like Coltrane better. Brecker may have passed Coltrane on technique but I just can't get enough of Coltrane's tone. But I guess thats just an opinion thing.

  • I love them both for different reasons, and a lot of the same reasons too since Brecker had so much Coltrane in him.

  • you're an idiot!

  • you should go get a labotomy

  • oh dear...

I hope you're just joking around.

  • Don't forget Mr Goldings is playing some hot swinging bass with his FEET!!!

  • and with his left hand also...

  • That's Bill Stewart on drums right? One of the most musical drummers I've ever heard.

  • what great musicians! R.I.P. Brecker. A league of his own

  • larry goldings the pianist is my cousin :)

  • This goes directly to favorites...no questions asked!

  • sorry my bad, typo, i meant to say "so it'll no doubt get better"

  • Tales from the Hudson is a wicked album....has this track slings and arrows on it!!check out song for bilbao!!!

  • far out, 'Tales from the Hudson' is one of my favorite albums, its hard to pick out just one or two tunes above the rest but song for bilbao is definitely up there, the last B section of metheny's solo is absolutely insane, in fact that entire solo is mind-boggling. i was specifically looking for albums with this line up which i found in the form of Brecker's 'Time is of the essence' which is good but i've only just started listening to it so it'll doubt get better...

  • Does anybody know where i can find the recordings or dvd of this, what it's called?

...is totally insane btw, goldings blows my mind always (not to mention the rest of the band)

  • Brecker made me smile when I first heard him on a Cobham recording years ago ("Pleasant Pheasant"). This solo moves me the same way! His fire, audacity, and control of the instrument is breathtaking.

By the same token, I have to give major props to organist, Larry Goldings. His soloing was superb! But to follow Brecker, he did the best he could do, play a couple hot choruses and the get the hell out!

  • Brecker is so amazing on this one.

  • What a loss...someone said when Coltrane died that Brecker picked up the torch and I wouldn't argue. Now he's gone too. Most of us can only wish to one day leave behind a document as rich and beautiful as the work this dude put down.

Thanks for the post - what an ensemble! Special kudos to Bill Stewart, such a musical drummer.

  • my tenor sax teacher says that brecker took over after coltrane died

Although i think coltrane is god, i believe him

  • YEAH BABY! great stuff. ( you hear this, you morons with your hats on sideways and pants falling down) ? this is REAL TALENT.

  • Brecker blows the heck out of this solo! He was the man!

  • guys, check out just after 5 min into the recording. The chromatic passage that brecker plays, metheney tottally catches it and plays along. amazing!

  • Really amazing! How can he do that?!

  • dude you're totally right about that... that's so awesome

one (ridiculously long) lick i thought was freakin BURNIN was the one he does from 4:15 to 4:35... it's like a pentatonic thing he shifts up a half step (correct me if i'm wrong) but it sounds so sick

  • and no this is the opener to Tales From The Hudson. get that album if you dont already have. it is with out a doubt my favorite album.

  • You're right. I already have this album, I just though it wasn't from this album... I was on another planet when I did this comment, scuse me.

  • haha cool it's my favorite album too, very underrated also. although idk if i agree that this version is as good as the original. it's GREAT but the original is just out of this world. jack dejohnette kills that one

  • man i thought nothing could be better than the original recording of this because the dejohnette and brecker and metheny just lay it down. But this gives it a run for its money!!!

bill stewart and brecker havent seen that before

  • this is a treasure

  • Michael quotes is song 'Itsbynn reell' at around 05:45 and after...

  • Huh....isn't this tune on the last album of Michael "Pilgrimage" ?

  • what a band.

and even a cutaway shot of steve lukather.

  • Mother Lode!!! thank you...

  • Larry Goldings played with John Scofield too.

  • Great stuff. Michael may he rest in peace was the man on sax...awesome clip.
