  • @atcpilotsc Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. It's a really strange problem to diagnose, and I hoped that my video would someday help someone get their FXR to stop leaking gas. When it happened to me, I thought it had a crack in it, and I'd have to replace the whole tank or seal it with some kind of chemical.

  • thanks - i have the exact problem on my 94 wide glide....you have really helped me out with this video ....

  • Thanks a million, you have helped me immensely.

  • @NJtrainer You're welcome. I'm glad I could help. When I was trying to figure out how to get the Harley FXR fuel gauge out, I couldn't find anything on the internet, so I made the video. I hope it helps more people in the future.

  • thanks so much, that is exactly what I needed to know. ! you are a true friend, and great help.

  • my main question still remains, The orange and black wires that go through the tank, hook to what.? im guessing black is a ground, and orange is power,,when the ignition is on,,right.? does anyone know.

  • @NJtrainer Orange wire is the positive wire to the Accessory circuit, which has power when the ignition is turned on, and has no power when the ignition is turned off. Find an orange wire on the bike and test it with a voltmeter to make sure it has power when the ignition is on and no power when the ignition is off, and splice the orange gas gauge wire in there. The black wire is the ground.

  • @hoohoohoblin Thanks a million, you have really been a big help. and I like your bike collection!

  • Remove the battery first? Prevent sparks?

  • @eckyspondoolie removing the battery ,,helps to prevent sparks,, ONLY while working on it, ! if you have wires crossed or going to the wrong terminals,, once you hook up POWER , you will still have a problem..

but yes , you have stated the obvious.

  • Hey ,,if you can get in touch with me I really could use your help,, to figure out what wires go where on that fuel sending unit, I bought a used tank, and the guy cut the wires,, my bike, had the smooth FLXR tank before that,, with no gas gauge..

    any help is appreciated.! Thanks

by the way,, Hot royal enfield, is it a constellation.??

  • @NJtrainer Looking down the hole where the gas gauge was, the center bolt gets the red wire. The bolt to the right of center gets the black wire. An orange wire and another black wire come up through the tube from underneath the tank. Looking at the back of the fuel gauge, with the top facing up, the two black wires connect to the center bolt. Down and to the left of the center bolt is another bolt for the red wire. Down and to the right of the center bolt is a bolt for the orange wire.

  • @hoohoohoblin Hope that helped. The Royal Enfield is a 2001 Bullet 500. Great bike, but slow and high-maintenance. I love it. Let me know if my previous comment didn't answer your question about the gas gauge wiring for your Harley Davidson FXR.

  • subliminal message at 2:46 hahaha

  • Weird. I recorded over something else when I made this video. I think the subliminal image is a local Baptist pastor giving a speech at a congressional town hall meeting.

  • nice video but i gues you have never held gas in a polly bag for long then??? it affects the plastic in no time.

  • Yeah. I wasn't really thinking about that at the time. I was just using the bag to plug the hole so no dust or bugs got into the motorcycle's gas tank. Next time I'll use something different. I doubt the bag deteriorated much though, as the gas tank was empty.
