Well the effects of adenylate cyclase toxin and pertussis toxin can cause destruction of ciliated cells, which aids colonisation. There's also an immunopathological response to Lipid A of B. Pertussis. Eventually this causes the formation of a sheet, PMNs, bacteria and dead cells which leads to bronchitis and fever. This, in combination with possible effects of toxins on the nerve cells causes paroxysms of coughing, causing the characteristic whooping cough. Vaccination by the killed bacterium;)

I had this in high school although I was immunized as a baby. My coughing lasted for about a month. I'm also an asthmatic, so I started having asthma attacks along with the coughing. Had to go to the ER at one point and they put me on a nebulizer.

@tessiepop: can you go to the doctor on your own? Or maybe a school nurse? Show this video to your parents and in the sidebar there are videos of people with coughing fits of it, that way they may see you have the same thing.

You start coughing so much until all the air is out of your throat, then your throat shrinks to a ridiculous small size and your body automatically forces you to try to breathe in, but because the hole of your throat is so small, it makes a WHOOOOPP gasping for air kind of noise.

Sometimes flemn comes out.

After the entire ordeal is done, you are left with a pain in your chest.

The whooping occurs in children. Children are more prone to Death. Adults don't get the whooping, normally having bigger airway and better immune system. Adults normally cough for 3-6 months, headaches, blue lips and toes from low Oxygen... long enough to grow new air-passageway/lung cells. WATCH "CLINICAL EXAMPLES OF PERTUSSES"
