using live footage for refrences is ok but im not a big fan of rotoscoping because it limits you, and you'll rely on film too much. if you want to be a great animator use your imagination
Ma'am. you will make a fine animator, as you already are now, you will be even greater as you go on, God bless you and your talent, and may you continue this without the scourge of cgi animation tainting you.
hand drawn can be appretiated so much more, and your style will shine through it.
may i ask though.... How much time elapsed would you guess that this took to make, work included only.
its great that your getting into animation at such an early age, but i think you should leave the rotoscoping alone.
Look into getting Richard Williams 'Animators survival Kit', its a great book that youll find in every studio and its perfect for starting out.
Keep doing observational drawing and drawing people you see, and try animating without video and rotoscoping, but rather use what you learn from your studies.

OMG incredible! How did you do that? Did you use the computer, or was this hand drawn? This is really great! It's like a disney demo reel!! the feet was the only thing a bit twitchy, other than that, you got it! add me as a friend please!
Omg this is sooo cool!! I could neverrrrrr draw anything as good as that haha. But whyyyy so short??? It was soo good, you should have made something longer! And, the feet aren't as bad as you seem to think. Trust me, I draw worse ;)
I think rotoscopy is okay, as a learning tool. If you do it really consciously, you can pick up loads of little things that'll make your animations look great.
Having said that, rotoscopy, funnily enough, also gives a very stiff, nreal feeling to an animation, because the user outlines an already existing picture, without intelligently outlining volume and dynamics.
Do you see what I mean ?
I'm sorry : my English isn't so good : )
Anyway, I found the subject of your animation very interesting !
Yep, I can see this was not rotoscopy, it is really visibly a lot of hard work you have done, and it comes out really well. Careful, though, your feet are a bit shaky ! I just finished animating a llama (I had already done a polo bear), feel my pain ! (sorry, I just had to tell someone : I'm the last one in the school : ( so I have nobody to tell)
WOW! Im 12 and i just made my first hand drawn animation and mine sucks compared to yours. How many frames did u use (pieces of paper)? And did u use tracing paper?
i checked out your animations and their pretty good though :)...anyways i think i used about 110 frames or something like that on regular printing paper...but i used a light box so its sort of like tracing
It's good reference for a drawing but it does look alot like film put through a filter, which i think makes it lose it's charm, the magic in animation is not it ability to mimic reality rather to make impressions of what we see, for some good hand drawn stuff check out bill plympton! here type in push comes to shove Bill Plympton
Aw nice job!!!

I'm a fourteen year old artist. However, I'm not much of an animation person... yet.
Well done! Skirts must be difficult to draw, because of the flowing nature of fabric.

i haven't tried rotoscoping but i bet it is a good way to study things like the way fabric moves and wrinkles...

Looks a lot like rotoscoping, or at least you followed a piece of film frame by frame.
It looks like a lot of work went into it.

I'd say "bloody brilliant", but someone already has, so I'll say that it's "bloody impressive", especially for what you say is a first time.
And though you probably already know this, you were featured in the Cult of Mac blog, which only shows the awesomeness of this animation.
Anyways, well done, and I think we all look forward to future animations!
