why did you demo the amp through a 4x12 cab? i bought a blues jr 'cause it's portable and sounds good. i want to hear your mod with the stock speaker.
I just bought a Blues Junior Texas Red today and it sounds pretty doggone good stock with no mods. I bet if I ran it through my Marshall 4X12 with Greenbacks or my Avatar 4X12 with Vintage 30's and G12T-75's in X pattern it would sound killer too as compared to the Celestion Vintage 30 that's in it. Looks like everybody and their brother mods these amps.
Not a thing, if you are looking for a certain sound, resistors and caps will get you there at a tenth of the cost.Save your money for some good tubes.
Nice groove man. I just got a Blues Jr and have already been completely pleased over my old Epi Valve Jr head into an Avatar 2x12. Of course, I am mostly looking for low volume, full tone sounds, at least to the degree that they can be acheived and I think that a nice BJ works for me.
Does this mod increase output levels?

Ben, It would be nice to hear single coils through the amp, and also with a 112. Just to get an accurate picture.

How does a mercury magnetics transformer make a difference? Like what does it do different?

it's just higher quality.If you did nothing else but swap the transformer you'd notice the amp come alive beneath your fingers.
