Everybody keeps saying bring music videos back to MTV, but think about the shitty music that would be on MTV today. It's not the fact that MTV was better back then, music in general was better back then
@computerkid1416 It was August 1, 2006 -- VH-1 Classic, which then actually JUST played videos and ZERO commercials, had a whole day-long anniversary in which they purported to broadcast the first whole day of MTV, but it was actually, from what I saw, just a 12 hours selection of videos that were played again, as was always the case with VH-1 Classic programming then. I was watching it for many hours every single day for a few years, and I knew that if
@computerkid1416 I saw something in the AM and wanted to catch it again, that it would be on at that same time in the PM! But the only way for there to be the REAL re-broadcast would be if someone uploads a VHS tape of it.
@computerkid1416 From Wikipedia's article about VH1 Classic: On August 1, 2006, VH1 Classic re-created the first day of MTV in honor of the network's 25th anniversary. VH1 Classic showed the videos and short clips of other linking material from that day, as well as various other videos from MTV's early years. * On July 30 thru August 1st, 2011, they also re-created the first day of MTV in honor of the network's 30th anniversary.
Happy 30th MTV! The GOOD OL' DAYS. One reason I created a Pat Benatar channel; a channel for memories. If you are a new or old fan of Pat Benatar stop by my channel!
To hell with teen idiot moms and and stupid snookie and all the other current day horse shit. 8/1/81 was the beginning of a great era, only to be ended by all the shit aforementioned.
The countdown to MTV video is awesome..at 4:08 NASA Mission Control actually says "Remain seated and No Smoking" THAT seems surreal now. I would think common sense would is not to light a match near the Shuttle.
As for MTV, they should have retired the channel and kept the Shuttles!
Dear MTV, PLZZZZZ PUT GOOD MUSIC ON AND FORGET THE STUPID REALITY SHOWS I NEVER GOT TO EXPERIENCE THE MTV 30 YRS AGO SO PLZZZZZ DO IT -3 , LovePeaceAndPandas :D
@tallicdeth VH1 Classic is! Starting tomorrow (Sat.) @ 6:00 a.m. and continuing until Tuesday evening. I assume they're gonna be showing MTV's first 24 (48?) hours. Set the DVR!
Hey, got a great idea for VH 1 Classic. Considering they celebrated MTV's 25th anniversary all day, how about celebrating MTV's 30th anniversary on Aug. 1st of this year? C'mon, VH 1 Classic, JUST DO THIS FOR US!
I can finally put the first hour of MTV together for the first time! Yay! And,VH-1 Classic's "Prologue" finally lets us see the first 10 Minutes before! Even MTV's "20th Anniversary Party" only lets us see 20 Seconds of the beginning!
Live aid was just as a hit as MTV at the time . lets see if we can top that in the 2011 coming !
THE BOX was another that followed in the foot steps mths later in the uk . I have about 200 of the old 12" video disc's ,just need a player and I am in 1980's video heven
80's an epic period folks a legandary entity rocked the whole world i wish if mtv released a dvd based on that first launching day a dvd in which all the programs could be in miss it
@undertow1985 Likewise! I get teared up every time I see this. I was only a little kid when MTV first launched but it's a vivid memory and I'm so thankful to have experienced the 80's <3
@undertow1985 I was gonna write about tears in my eyes myself. what an epic (for once the word fits the context) idea the rocket countdown was. I am a proud member of MTV generation, even letting pop culture greatly influence my teacher trainer career. happy 30th birthday MTV.
I'm a little young to have seen this when it originally aired. If I was alive in the 80s, I probably would've watched MTV and a lot of game shows. I rarely ever watch MTV compared to others my age. I just don't like that most of the shows have little or nothing to do with music. Sure, maybe a handful of "non music" shows could be on it, but when you're channel is called "MUSIC TELEVISION", it just kind of doesn't make too much sense.
History in the making!!! AWESOME! What a shame that the vision that was seen then, is now gone. We are the MTV generation. I dont know 'bout you guys, but I for one am proud to have been a part of such an historic event!!! Yea!
p.s. Even Martha Quinn, the VJ, didn't understand her job when it was offered to her. She asked, "What am I supposed to do during the record?" She thought she was going to just play a record and sit there with a camera on her. xD
Viewers had to have been thinking "music television... wha?"
I read later that MTV didn't actually debut nationwide - in actuality only a small audience in the northeast saw this countdown broadcast. They had to have been thinking "What in the heck are we looking at?" :-)
I WANT MY MTV!!!! (back)
