I grew up with the Beatles being in my late 50s... I had this record. It was in stereo like this. I would slow it down with my finger to the actual speed. Then, I.d only play the stereo side that had Paul on it. So I'd have it with both John and Paul singing. This was to me, the actual Beatles version. All four Beatles. It actually sounds better sped up a little from normal but not as fast as it is here. Try it. Make a copy of it. In fact, EQ it with more mids and bass. That would make the best

I was like in 3rd grade playing in a friend's back yard after school and he came out to show me an album he just got called Meet the Beatles. Four guys with long hair in black and white silloettes on the cover. No one had long hair then, and it made me laugh. Then I found out about a week later that those Beatles were the ones singing the songs I liked best on the radio. Timeless, no wonder it made the girls scream (the screaming wasn't added like I've noticed many old 60's videos have done).

And I'm so glad there are different version of it, because the one I prefer depends on my mood. This is a little brighter, more dreamlike. The album version is more poignant, a little sadder. The day he died I was delivering supplies in the boss's car; the radio was on, the announcer said "John Lennon has just been shot dead..." I pulled the car over to the side of the freeway, and wept hard. It was a nervous breakdown. I pulled off of the freeway...I couldn't recognize the streets. I drove all day until I followed one familiar street that led me back to work. The supplies were still in the car. I had lost my job and my youth that day. This is how important their music was to me.

@124slowhand there's not a lot of musical genius around in mainstream music. However two exceptions IMO are Maynard James Keenan of TOOL (check out "right in two" and "schism") and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree (have a listen to "i drive the hearse" and "lazarus"). Two amazing bands. Tool is more metally and dark, PT more melancholy and melodic. Let me know if you like the tracks I suggested :D

The Beatles were very good at writing popular music, and had some pioneering ideas of what "popular music" is, but that doesn't mean that the bands I mentioned aren't just as amazing. Popular music nowadays is just mass produced generic garbage, so the genres of actual innovation and new ideas have changed to ones that are less mainstream (eg prog metal). Keenan and Wilson are the modern day Lennon and Mcartney. It's a shame they arent as famous.
