This was the version on a compilation album I remember buying. Yes it was my favourite version too. Possibly because it was the first version I heard or possibly just because it was the best.
THAT screech in the background is the talent-less witch Yoko O No. John was completely pussy-whipped and crammed her down everyone's throat at this time.
No, the song began as a long pome. I think that it was printed in Wedding Album before Let It Be came out. This version need up on the charity album for widlife.
I grew up with the Beatles being in my late 50s... I had this record. It was in stereo like this. I would slow it down with my finger to the actual speed. Then, I.d only play the stereo side that had Paul on it. So I'd have it with both John and Paul singing. This was to me, the actual Beatles version. All four Beatles. It actually sounds better sped up a little from normal but not as fast as it is here. Try it. Make a copy of it. In fact, EQ it with more mids and bass. That would make the best
The line "Jai Guru Deva.." literally echoed in my head for about a minute after the song had ended.. It's when stuff like that happens that you realize the brilliance of good music..
The beatles dont need the most viewed video's on youtube, they werent around then. They have sold over 1.5 billion albums, thats more album sales than anything on youtube has views... so if you counted plays on those albums... Theyre just the best :)
This is the superior version as far as i'm concerned, followed by anthology version.spector fucked the let it be version i'm sorry.this was recorded during the lady madonna/hey bulldog session in feb 68' and should have been a single.they didn't issue singles off albums in those days.they had 17 u.k #1 singles.could have been over 25 had they released ; i saw her standing there, all my loving,i should have known better, eight days a week, got to get you into my life, lucy in the sky, back in the ussr.
I was like in 3rd grade playing in a friend's back yard after school and he came out to show me an album he just got called Meet the Beatles. Four guys with long hair in black and white silloettes on the cover. No one had long hair then, and it made me laugh. Then I found out about a week later that those Beatles were the ones singing the songs I liked best on the radio. Timeless, no wonder it made the girls scream (the screaming wasn't added like I've noticed many old 60's videos have done).
Its seems crazy to me how the beatles don't have the most viewed music video on youtube we all know who does but there will be no mention of the devils name here lol.
@legendofbirdbridge So, I typing 'The End' in the searchbox to find it, and 'The End' by The Beatles didn't even show up until I typed 'B' after 'The End'. Personally, if it was my website, that would be the first one to show up.
Original version complete with the two groupies sitting outside Abbey Road when they recorded. Lennon wanted this as a single but lost out. Slowed down by Phil Spector for Let It Be. The Anthology CD has a version that's really nice.
They're all great versions:-) The Beatles were the best nothing before or since has compared. The world could sure use a John Lennon right about now:-o
i always think of it like this if you arent trying to get killed you arent doing enough good in the world just think about it people that did great things in their life are usually assassinated
This song mesmerizes my brain, allowing only my spirit to exist. I've always wanted to try LSD but who needs it when there's music of this caliber. It may have been John's means of opening the gateway when this song was recorded, but all I need is his voice and the three brilliant musicians he chose to make brilliant music with. I'm giving peace a chance, and clicking the "replay" button...
Why would someone kill a man who fought only for peace, and made music that made us feel good? And had only a good additude and humor toward everything... burn in hell whoever killed john, burn in hell.
@PBGproductionsTM the guy was insane, there's no point in trying to understand why he did it because he didn't have rational reasons. He was just a nutter. 90% of murders are commited by nutters because unless the circumstances are horrendous, normal people just aren't capable of doing something like that.
@thresholder1 No mate wwe was originally called wwf in the nineties they had to change the name because of the world wildlife federation! I was only joking anyway lol
@albuorkka I agree, I think its the best version too. The wow in the back ground and the back up voicing when he sings "nothings gonna chnage my world"...
The day John died I was sitting in a bar that had the habit of playing the radio between sets of shite disco which was the habit of the day much to my chagrin. Through the din of the white noise which is the norm of any bar, I heard the announcer say, "John Lennon is dead" The whole entire bar suddenly went silent, it was as if subliminally we heard it through the voices in the bar, my heart knew that we had lost our only real prophet that day, and I knew then that the devil does exist.
I was born the day John was shot dead, within 1.7 minutes of his expiration, I believe that day he and I went two separate directions across the universe, and as we passed one another in the ether, he on his way to peace, I on my way to this life, I believe we made a ethereal connection and maybe just maybe he let go of a little part of himself and passed it unto me, something meaningful to him, a way to carry his aspect on. Thats as deep as I will get on this subject....Its you and me John.
John's best song of all time, IMO...which means it's probably the best song of all time, since he was the best. And I'm so glad there are different version of it, because the one I prefer depends on my mood. This is a little brighter, more dreamlike. The album version is more poignant, a little sadder. Then there's the naked version, and the version with the sitar.
The day he died I was delivering supplies in the boss's car; the radio was on, the announcer said "John Lennon has just been shot dead..." I pulled the car over to the side of the freeway, and wept hard. It was a nervous breakdown. I pulled off of the freeway...I couldn't recognize the streets. I drove all day until I followed one familiar street that led me back to work. The supplies were still in the car. I had lost my job and my youth that day. This is how important their music was to me.
@tomlynntigard I can relate. Fortunately, I wasn't operating any heavy machinery when I heard. But I've never fully recovered. To this day, I get visible goosebumps when I hear the words "John Lennon" and "assassinated" in the same sentence.
@tomlynntigard you drove all day? You must mean the day after he was shot because he died late in the evening and most of us learned about it due to Howard Cosell during the football game....never forget "an unspeakable tragedy ....John Lennon shot twice in the back..dead on arrival"...never ever forget....
@tomlynntigard glad you shared that. Although i wasn't around when John was killed, his and the beatles music means so much to me. I would probably do the same thing as you did. It's more than just music to me, i can't explain it.
I like all the versions. they could do no wrong. 4 geniuses. how could they? what are the odds? I can't find 1/10th of a genius in todays music, much less 4 of them in one band. we were blessed boys.
@124slowhand there's not a lot of musical genius around in mainstream music. However two exceptions IMO are Maynard James Keenan of TOOL (check out "right in two" and "schism") and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree (have a listen to "i drive the hearse" and "lazarus"). Two amazing bands. Tool is more metally and dark, PT more melancholy and melodic. Let me know if you like the tracks I suggested :D
@auramac that's not really true. The Beatles were very good at writing popular music, and had some pioneering ideas of what "popular music" is, but that doesn't mean that the bands I mentioned aren't just as amazing. Popular music nowadays is just mass produced generic garbage, so the genres of actual innovation and new ideas have changed to ones that are less mainstream (eg prog metal). Keenan and Wilson are the modern day Lennon and Mcartney. It's a shame they arent as famous.
Love the version on "Let it Be" because it is the one I first heard, but Lord do I love this one, without the female voices that were Phil Spector added and so not the Beatles. Still, cannot fault this song at all regardless of version.
God I love The Beatles so much...I fell in love with them in 5th grade and wrote a paper on them, I remember that year I got one of their albums and I listened to this song over and over and over again, and I'm not sick of it. To me The Beatles is more than just music...They're like a part of my soul, over the years they've become a source of inspiration, love and happiness even at the darkest times of my life...I thank John, George, Ringo and Paul for bringing so much joy into my life. <3
This was the version on a compilation album I remember buying. Yes it was my favourite version too. Possibly because it was the first version I heard or possibly just because it was the best.

My favourite version too!
I just love the sound of the birds in the beginning.Plus the female voice in the chorus.
It actually sounds happier than the version from the "Let It Be" album.

isn't this the same mix as in the past masters compilation?
