@Chiangazard I would say yes. Food, water, shelter, and fire are the necessities and he covers all of them with this pack load out. In a three day situation, I would simply add a bit more food for the long days! Hope this helps man.
@TheAlex5552 a moral booster... I would be real pissed if I was in a life or death situation and soaking wet. Just my opinion though, obviously in a K.I.S.S. situation you could cut out the rain gear and some other items included in the day pack depicted above.
your problem with the lack of cinch straps- If you can sew, of know someone who can, it would be an easy 2 min project on the sewing machine to add some attachment loops of ballistic nylon where you need them.
This man has some of the best videos I have ever seen on the subjects he covers! Also his videos are so clear, its like be there whith him and his helpers. Thanks for all of your great work and I hope you never stop doing you tube. Fred
pack is only as good as the zipper. Excellent remark! Ive had a deuter pack since i was 15, ten years later and ive had to replace the zipper 3 times! Its a weakness. To add to your remarks Its even good to think about the structure of the seams, and how to pack is sewn together, how easy itd be to pull of the zipper for replacement.
LOL Yeah let's not advertise the bug repellant for free, let's only do the Maxpedition Falcon II Pygmy, let me pepeat only the Maxpedition Falcon II Pygmy LOL...
You need a good pack in the outdoors no dout. But to me weight is more important, less weight = comfort to me(I have a bad knee). I have a BD bag that is 200 CI bigger than yours that weights 24 ounces and is 12 years old and still going strong for overnight to 3 day trips. I re-bottle all liquids like hand sanitizer and soap into half ounce leak proof bottles. Do you need that whole big bottle? For day hikes, I take a Molle 2 lumbar pack with the 10 essentials and a few comfort items.
@Survivalistboards where is that creek you guys are walking along, i wish they had something like that in my area, maybe ill have to vacation near this area to walk it, it looks awsome.
That doesn't look like a pack that is really meant for loads of stuff, you say you wanted straps on the bottom for a sleeping pad and then above so you can put a small bag?? I would suggest getting a larger pack if that is what you want to do with it. It is more meant for day hikes where there is no need for an overnight. Why are you even lugging all that shit around? That poncho liner was not the size of a grapefruit, more like a football.
ok minnows make good bait for bigger fish and i could carry enuf supplies in that pack for a few weeks i used a little bigger one on the AT TRAIL for 6 weeks on one load of supplies
The elastic cords you wanted changed are perfect for a small tent or sleeping bag to be stowed. I wouldn't change it actually, but that's just my opinion.
Just an idea if you have n't thought of it already.
You find a tin can that your water bottle will nest in, it should slide right in that pouch and boy that comes in handy to warm up water for some instant soup or coffee. the can weighs almost nothing, takes up no space and could be a life saver should you get stuck some where. It can be a digging tool, pot to purify water, and many other uses.
Oh, ok...I missunderstood the vid bro...no worries. I thought this was for a longer treck. Here in SC we always have to take a few clothes items for the nights...it might be 60 durin the day, and 20's at night...lol Great review..saving my money up to get a max pac...though I think that one will be a bit small for my use.
Dude I spent 2 months at NTC in Fort Irwin CA (part of which is IN Death Valley) My team leader made a bet that he could wear the same BDU's the whole time, and he did.
When he finally took his pants off they were so caked with sweat salt that he stood them on end. I should have taken a picture.
I edc a pygmy to work everyday and it is one excellent bag, lots of places to keep daily items. The little elastic cinch straps at the bottom are good for storing a waterproof trousers or jacket.
Nice review, Maxpedition is first class. People need to watch out for companies like Countycomm. Stuff looks good online but they use an inferior type of cordura that is vinyl backed. 1000 denier is not always the same. I know from experience. Best to go with mil spec cordura which is an oxford cloth, doubled over. That is what Maxpedition uses.
Regardless, this is another great review. My main concern was the stitching and breathablity; you got those right off the bat. I might end up getting one of these. Thanks again!
I thought there were studies that showed them to be toxic, linked to cancer? I checked again online and it seems I was right, but I could be wrong BUT thats why I've been using aluminum for storing my water and stainless steel for heating. Don't use aluminum for heating because it will leach and make the water poisonous over time but as long as its only used for storage your good.
Would there still be a way to put a small sleeping bag and rolled up tint on that thing? Really enjoy your videos on this stuff, because I love camping and looking into doing it again with my buddies when we go squirrel hunting.
heard in one of the vid. that you where from Jasper in East Texas. My family enjoy camping-it and live in Kilgore, is there any rustic and primative camping around the area?
aimsuxdoggydills - huh?? That poncho liner can compress down to the size of a grapefruit. Why would I want to bring a 40 degree bag when its 90-100 degrees outside?
You bring the kind of knife you want, I'll bring the kind that I want.
You seemed worried about space for a sleeping pad on the outside...and it's no wonder, that poncho liner was taking up most of the pack space, along with that heavy first aid kit and Outback Steakhouse blade/sheath combo. A 40F bag and pad could be used in that space, a much better use of resources.
Hey show a little respect, everyone has different ways of packing and his sittuation could be way different that yours. "next time try being a little more nice"
I beg your pardon. You used to reading in a tone that your boss talks to you in or something? I'm offering some sound advice, guess I'd should start making my own videos for real hikers.
I could never ever ever live in california..just one screwed up state. I feel sorry for those that do. BTW that's a nice pack i like maxpedition products.
I tend to like the elastic webbing , if it is good quality and able to sintch down. it's easy to cram and fit even odd shaped items with them. and If you had to you could cut them off and use it as a turnakit
a lot of manufacturers put "drainage holes" into the bottom. But they make the fabric waterproof, but there's a hole in it.... kind of defeats the purpose of waterproof fabric.
sucks... my house almost burned down but its safe now.... and the sky is clear of smoke... fires still burning like 10 miles north and the forrest all the way down here is still shut down... bs
Ya i live in Simi and D11 is closed and now sespi is on fire i have only 1 more semi local area that is open and 1 pay to hunt local in riverside. One of my patients invited me to hunt on his property and i learned that that zone is now closed. Do you know of any place to hunt?
I have a falcon II. Not the pygmy model . Best pack I've ever had. Its comfortable, durable, spacy yet organizable etc... Whether his opinion is bias or not there really isn't anything bad to say about maxexpedition gear in general.. imo :D

Under-packed and overloaded again.
10 essentials.
That poncho liner is bigger than a decent 40F down bag and air mat.
There is zero reason to be carrying a knife like that when you've got a pack.
